i believe so, even back when they were available i was told by the guy who i got my VR off that he had put one of the last genuine new cassettes in from VW shortly before i brought it about 7 years ago there are threads about replacing the cassette with ones from other vehicles, which might give you an option if you cant repair your current one, however IIRC they are getting harder to find too

oooo nice work Spen! did you get a remap to take advantage of them too? if yes, what was your result? i had mine mapped before i got the Longlife SS exhaust, it would have been nice to have had it after but funds wouldnt allow. mine made 209.6 with the 263's & BMC oh & how are you liking the mod?

oh dear, i am guessing you are unaware that they can be an issue with most corrado's there are many threads on here about them, have a search & im sure you will find lots of info - good luck

    Hello!

welcome Luka sorry to hear of your woes caused by poor mechanics, i tend to only trust my 2 rado's to the mechanic who has worked on my cars for about 25 years have a look at this for your climatronic http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?83431-MK4-Climatronic-AC-conversion-what-parts-needed&highlight=climatronic now your VR has a proper 2.9 lump you have a true corrado VR6 ;) LOL
  7. i see, thanks for explaining i am fussy with tires on the VR, only run correct 205/50's in a bridgestone format
  8. Correct, the valver doesnt have abs - does that make much difference Dox?
  9. oh & part worns can be a bargain if £'s are tight im not too fussy with tires on the valver & i got some avon zv5's which were virtually brand new, even still had the little pointy feeler bits on the edges, for £30 each fitted
  10. i run 16" BBS RX2's on the early valver - think they were off a polo gt or something with 195/45's on the front & OE suspension i dont get any issues. cant recall the ET but i dont need spacers i have left the 205/50's on the rear for the moment as they are ok on the back & give a tiny hot rod wheel feel to the look
  11. thanks for your help with this lilfuzz :)
  12. thanks for your help with this lilfuzz

yes, the last couple ive seen advertised were quite inflated compared to previous actual sales some are put off by the need to remove part of the schrick to replace spark plugs, for me im not keen on their aesthetic look plus, the actual gains for £'s you get AFAIK makes it an expensive option combine one with cams, BMC, remap & free flowing exhaust then you can really get the advantage of the VVT function but again im not sure how much the shrick would add to that good luck with your hunt

hope your wallet is braced for it if they do ;)
  18. sounds like you have made the best decision you are able to at the time, which is all anyone can do for the best with the array of symptoms im sure that decision is a good one & fingers crossed for you that the place it is at do a good job. the majority of the price would be for the labour so as long as the place it is at are competent your saving could simply be due to them having a lower hourly rate than the specialist & work quality should be the similar i also agree with the 2nd hand engine bit, you know the history of yours & with the ailments fixed it remains original & a matching number car keep us posted :)
  19. nice - hope you find her! i was thrilled when i managed to get my old 16v back after several years apart
  20. wow!!! £33,213 - cant be many in Canada, let alone with that kind of mileage
  21. agree with what Jim has said - plus the block should be re-honed AFAIK also - i thought my VR was seeping oil past valve stems due to smoke on start up but said smoke was there after head rebuild Vince did some major testing & found that it was my OE cat producing the smoke, which wasnt smoke but water vapour as the cat was holding excess moisture once the cat was hot the smoke went away & after having my Longlife SS exhaust with hi flow cat fitted ive not had any start up smoke since - FYI the exhaust was £400 which is massively cheaper than a bottom end rebuild graham, is it still running the original (or old) OE cat & exhaust? though i must add the caviat that my VR passed the leak down test vince did
  22. excellent thanks fella - drop me a pm when you have had chance :)
