i can personally recommend Longlife exhausts - i got my VR done with them, 2.5" stainless from bottom of downpipe back with hiflow CAT for £400 a while back

you would have thought so but the output from the exhaust looks very similar a way to tell between the 2 is to get the vapour over your hands & then see if they feel oily mine had Vince head scratching a little, hence his additional testing

is it a daily? if not removal of said tires then a fresh strip & powder coat should sort the current ones out

just my 2 pence worth but are those reporting 'smoking' still on the OE exhaust & CAT? i ask this as my VR would look like it was smoking after cold start up & i too thought it could be worn valves or seals. I was told it was likely that oil was leaking past them when standing over night, thus causing some smoke on the next morning (the VR has never used much oil at all & well within the VW tolerances) however this was still the case after Stealth rebuilt the top end the 'smoking' stopped after i had a new Longlife exhaust with hiflow CAT some time after said rebuild which then tied in with the testing that Vince did where he told me that the old CAT was holding moisture in it which would cause the smoking until said CAT got nice & hot

pleasure m8 have fun when you do. i find sanding very satisfying & rewarding when you get the end result you want with some elbow grease ive managed to turn a couple of my house internal doors from marked & dull 'just' doors into lovely 'features' & the stair case looks a world away from the gloss painted crap when i first moved in :D

i use screwfix for the belts & orbital discs too a decent brand hand held belt sander is fairly pricey but from experience a better brand is a must really as the cheap ones do not last at all. ive been through 3 of the little ryobi ones on the stairs but at least they were all replaced FOC where abouts are you located? are you close to west mids?

i see pity they wouldnt fit the OE seats due to the shape differences, UV is my favourite cloth option

oh i see - thanks Jon! that really would have had me scratching my head lol i guess it is just the window controller module behind the rear card - which i checked being hopeful of a loose connection but alas not can i ask if have you done one before? if yes, is it easier to replace the full mechanism or quite simple to remove the motor itself? thanks

glad i read all of your post as i initially thought jet wash it as i did mine a couple of weeks ago & it came up like new i dont think the previous owners of my house cleaned, like anything ever lol as for the splinters i can share a bit of my experience from restoring my house stair case & stairs first a question to ask yourself would be - what level of finish do you want? if you want a super fine, very smooth to the touch finish then likely both orbital & belt sanders also, it depends if you already have the kit or need to hire/lend it - i have both thanks to my late brother in laws father my stairs were horribly grimey when i took the carpet & underlay up, you could clearly see where the old skool center section carpet originally ran up them i used a belt sander to being with using an 80 grit belt - this did a cracking job at getting the bulk done quickly. holy moly it was vicious though, you had to literally hold it back from running off lol the finish it left was not appropriate for the stairs though as i wanted to put a hard wearing clear wax on them. the entire staircase turned out to be beautiful pine under all the grime :D as such i then used an orbital with 120 grit pad, which took its time but produced a very nice to touch & even finish it would be possible to use a different grit belt i guess but i doubt the finish would be as per the orbital due to the different way the orbital works in comparison to a belt hopefully that will give you a bit of info to mull over

mmmm UV Recaro's!! would they be to fit over standard seats or specifically for the recaro shape? regarding the black leather - i have had great results refurb'ing a steering wheel with the glyptone products & if i get similar when i do my VR seats i doubt the would need new leather as such it that option could reduce your potential purchaser base as only those who's seats are worn beyond repair may be interested

AFAIK it sounds like a motor issue - i have the same on my VR drivers side i think it is a case of drilling the old motor out from behind the rear door card & then re-riveting a replacement in there

welcome Jim - make yourself at home :) That is a special ownership, must have been nice to have it new!! good mileage too, ive put more than that on my VR in the 7 years ive owned it lol lets see some pics :)

lol the latter is what i did easier to replace all 3 relays rather than keep swapping until found the culprit

Hi Paul Sounds like you have a failed relay in the uprated loom - the symptoms you describe are what normally happens if one relay fails they are a few £'s from your local motor factors & i would advise taking one in with you for them to match it i keep a couple of spare sin the glove box in case one goes when out on the road

tidy - please do let me know what you think once you have listened i do look back & wish i had had the money to get the Longlife before the Stealth work as i could have likely gotten a little more than the 10% power gain are you having cams at stealth? even if not i have read that Vince can produce a better power delivery with OE horses over the factory map so likely worth the money

ahh i see, sound definitley helps for a video lol do you have earphones? & does your desktop have a green audio out socket? ;) the pics on page 8 show the full system & yes the price was exceedingly good for a custom fabricated system!! it also has a lifetime warranty that is for the exhaust itself & not for just the purchaser, thus if i sold the car the new person could still make a warranty claim on the exhaust & no need to take it back for inspection each year like many other exhaust people make you do also, AFIK i am sure i have been told that a SS manifold would not really give any real gains honestly, hand on 6 cylinders it is some of the best pound notes ive spent on the VR - i couldnt be happier with it & am glad i didnt fork out on a much more expensive system

a what? lol i would guess maybe as there is a cylinder just after the cat but im not sure if it had any mufflers in it the horrible OE suitcase was removed & looking back at the install pics on page 8 it goes.....downpipe into hiflow CAT, into cylinder thing & then out to the back box IIRC the back box they chose was the largest possible which would fit & i think they put 2 mufflers in there but if it was too loud i could go back & have a 3rd fitted anyhoo i didnt go back as after a couple of months to allow it to coke up the sound was & is exactly what i was after it lets you know it is there under hard right foot but doesnt overpower the sound of the BMC noise kicking in about 4k revs, after which they sing beautifully together & then the burbles & pops on slowing & downchanges is fecking awesome, but cruise at any speed & it is nicely quiet (as such it is lovely on the motorway too)
