  1. that's what i was going by... you've had that ASD box in there for a while though and it was shifting fine last year... you had the ASD fitted then yeah??
  2. you using the tdi gear linkage mate or the original g60 stuff? I heard the tdi stuff doesn't really fit and allow smooth gear changes Edit: Well done by the way!
  3. they just slide/push into the top..... sounds strange there isn't anywhere for them to go
  4. wire brush and citric acid to clean the callipers up is probably best. David is right about the screw, they're not essential but can be a pain without them when you take the wheels off... the disks have a tendency to flop about without them but they certainly don't carry much in the way of load. I'd try screw remover before tapping it out. could save you allot of bother. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+Tool+Accessories/Speciality+Drills+Chucks/Screw+and+Bolt+Extractor+Set+5+Piece/d80/sd1400/p51010
  5. who ever fitted the coilovers maybe didn't tighten the top bolt after they dropped the car back on to the road. are all the bolts tight? otherwise the mount has gone and needs replacing.
  6. do you still have these available mate? I'm needing a drivers side calliper
  7. Ok chaps... Bit of a booboo on my part! I already had a passenger side calliper! So I'm still in need of a 280mm drivers side calliper :)
  8. also, if AVS are anything to go by, then you wont be able to get one directly from them anyway (I rang them up to get a g60 one a few months back), even if they still do those radiators...
  9. did you not get a C spanner in the kit? You can do it by hand when the car is up in the air (off the suspension) but if you got a new kit you should have been given a C spanner.
  10. In my search for a replacement rad for my G60 I went everywhere and talked to a LOAD of folk even in america... It would seem that £150 was the cheapest I could find for the now obsolete g60 rad. I would think that you'll not get a brand new one for less than £100... I'd be biting your mechanics arm off personally!

  12. Not as easy as I hoped... Every brake union is corroded up good. Spent all day trying to get the flexie hoses off the front calipers and the brake lines... I failed :( I ain't got the tools or the weather for this, I just won't it fixed....
  13. Agreed, unfortunately the rollers are now obsolete. Try posting in the wanted section. Rollers our defiantly what your in need of
  14. I'm surprised they sold him any tbh! There arn't many acids as strong as hydrocloric... I think in fact only hydrofoilc is more corrosive (eats glass!) Your right about Citric acid though, the bags I'm now buying are for making bath bombs and adding to food as a preservative. Can't be that bad if your expected to eat it!
  15. Citric acid is a VERY weak acid, you'd have to sit over a steaming pot of it for a day to see any Ill effects. People do the same thing all the time when they pop lemon juice into boiling water when they have a cold. It's really not that dangerous. I think that guide is being a little over zealous with it's health and safety
  16. I've made up lines on my old mk4 polo before and it is quite fun if you have plenty of room (like on the polo) not sure how well im going to get of with the G60 though, looks tight round the master cylinder... I'll let you know! Don't be fooled by my wonderful recipe though... That citric acid is good but you do need to do a little prep, other wise you'll be washing it two or three times to get good results. Ideally you need to first remove the worst of the rubbish and rust with a wire brush and then give it a de-grease with some soapy water. I also went down the home sand blasting route a while back but the efforts didn't come to much. You idealy need a BIG compressor and then a booth, otherwise you'll end up spending all day doing something like a caliper. this bathing technique worked out allot cheaper, gave good results and required allot less work than other labour intensive methods (dremmle drills, wire brushes, rotary brushes etc.) Had the whole lot cleaned in about 1hour. You could have diced some Ham up and popped that in the stock during the simmering stage.... But that' not very nevué cuisine is it! Recipe book sounds good though, maybe send some nice ones off to the sprinter to publish! :D
  17. I think the gear knobs can be got from VW part number 357711141A 1BX £20ish + VAT you should check though, im not 100%
  18. This weekend I will mostly be ripping the brake pipes off my car and replacing them with copper replacements. Got all the unions, just need to get some copper and a flaring kit. wish me luck!
  19. Ahh, I see. You can use battery acid though if your careful, it's basically sulphuric acid. That's what they use industrially but yeah.... Hot acid wouldn't be fun
  20. indeed Kev but the reason I ask is that I have forgotten to refit it  When i took the subframe off to clean it and fit new wishbones, PAS pipes etc. I took it off and only this morning spotted it wasn't fitted. I'll have a look to see how easy it is to fit without removing the subframe. If it's a simple matter then I'll pop it back on. If not, It's nice to know I wont explode due to it's absence!
  21. I did the same job last week mate... so much easier with the subframe off! My mate did his in-situ though so it can be done although the contraption he constructed would have made Dr Robotnics jealous! He has a breaker bar/crow bar popped into the subframe where the ARB goes through and then he used a trolley jack to jack up the bar to lever the subframe away from the car! madness!
  22. I dunno man... it may well IMPROVE things  hmmm, cheesy ---------- Post added at 03:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:09 PM ---------- thanks for link though man... it would seem I don't need it then, so long as I don't mind a little harmonic resonance but I assume that this would be at certain speeds/RPM's so i aint bothered. I'll hold onto it though, i can always throw it back on quick
