  1. The hinges are deffo worn mate, you can lift the door up by about 1cm at the end, there is play in the hinges. Has anyone else replaced the hinge pins. Rog.
  2. My drivers door has dropped slightly, now I realise the car is 18 odd years old and this is to be expected but it bugs the hell out of me. So, what are my options?? I'm thinking that I could replace the door pins, do they wear or is it the hinge that has worn. Failing that, my plan is to shim the actual hinge, I'll just remove the securing bolt and place a washer in behind it to move the door up. Anyone else have any ideas. Rog.
  3. I had a PM from Andy (CazzaVR) earlier saying he had a problem with the abs light during the summer, he found the alarm siren was touching the top of the abs unit so moved it, he also cleaned up the plug and the problem went away. Anyway, I noticed that the siren had again slipped down and was touching the abs, so I've moved it, also unplugged and replugged the abs whilst I had the battery disconnected...well guess what, abs light is now working as it should.. :) gotta love having the previous owner keeping an eye on you, many thanks Andy. Rog.
  4. Cheers fella's, nothing to worry about then. I think I'll give it an oil change shortly anyway, what oil to people recommend?? I've used the Halfords own brand 10W40 semi in my Honda's before with no problems so was wondering if its any good for the VR. Also, out of interest, how easy is it to change a tappet?? Rog.
  5. When cold I'm getting a loud tapping sound from the engine, it sounds like a badly adjusted tappet but I'm lead to believe the VR6 has hydraulic tappets. Once hot (after about 10 mins) the sound disappears. Anyone shed any light on this?? Rog.
  6. Quick one, I've got a ABS problem and a mate of mine has VAGCOM for his T5, he has kindly offered to plug in for me but I'm a little concerned as my car has been remapped. Will plugging in have any effect on the remap, I don't want to bugger anything up. Rog.
  7. Sean, when are next down in the motherland, I've an ABS problem I need scanning. Rog.
  8. Cheers for the reply mate, where abouts is the ebs ecu?? I've been sorting out some wiring and wonder if I have disturbed something. Rog.
  9. I've got a strange ABS problem, when cold on startup the ABS light comes on and doesn't go off, however if I drive for a bit and its all warmed up and I re-start the light goes out as per normal.... strange.. Anyone had something similar?? Any advice on how to fault find this would be great.. Many thanks Rog.
  10. Not arrived yet mate, can't wait, going to sound awesome.
  11. You have been busy, perks of half term I guess...lol Rog.
  12. Little update, I've now sorted my stereo wiring out, it now works as it should, I've also set up the illumination colours and I must say I'm very impressed with it, almost looks OE. Had a bit of a shock today, car was on the drive warming up when I noticed a large puddle of fuel underneath, whipped the wheel off and it appears there is a leak from the top of the tank... bugger... I was thinking the worse and was wondering how to drop the tank when I found the inspection cover under the boot carpet. Got the cover off and was greeted by a puddle of fuel, fired the engine up and there is fuel coming out of the supply hose joint.. one new jubilee clip later and Robert is your fathers brother.. I love little fixes like this... result. In other news... me and the alarm are now getting on better, he showed me his 'total closure' and I've forgiven him his earlier tantrum... he may be staying now... time will tell. Rog.
  13. Fellas, my Storm seems to take ages to heat up, a good 10 mins, if I drive down my road the temp gauge doesn't even move in the first 3 miles. I've never owned a VR6 before so don't know if this is normal? Also what temp do they normally run at? Rog.
  14. Any idea when the red ones will be available again?? I'm after a small style one. Rog.
  15. Very nice Andy, a worthy successor to the rado, love the colour, looks like you got a good un. Rog.
  16. I've tried that Andy, in the vertical position it stays locked all time and in the horizontal position it stays unlocked all the time regardless of what I do with the central locking. Rog.
  17. Finally managed to get my glovebox out to check the wiring, I've modified it so it's easy to remove again as I've had a massive argument with my clifford alarm and I think we may be parting company in the new future...lol Stereo wiring is a little strange, there is a small brown/red in the loom that has been cut, it's live with the ign is on and stays live until the key is removed, ideal for the stereo buts its only a thin wire and wont take the total stereo load, I suspect thats the reason it's been cut, my plan is to use it to drive a relay and connect that to the stereo. Only other thing I did today was to discover that the boot doesn't lock with the central locking, anyone have any idea why?? Rog.
  18. Taaa Daaaa, Cheers for the tips fella's, managed to get it with a fair amount of brute strength and ignorance...lol While it was out I decided to remove the ridge. Just used a hacksaw blade, easy peasy. A little rub over with the sander and it's done. It's a lot easier to get out now which should come in handy when I finally lose my rag with the alarm and rip it out... we have already had words.... Rog.
  19. Evening chums, I need to remove my glovebox, I've remove the 4 screws holding it in but can't remove it, it's loose but just won't come out of the hole.. Any tips of how to remove it. Rog.
  20. As some of you may well know I was lucky enough to buy Andy's (Cazza) mystic blue storm. Originally I wanted a project car but when Andy put his up for sale I couldn't believe it, basically it's near enough exactly what I would have done, keep it OE with some subtle performance and cosmetic mods... Spot on..I'll take it...lol So, picked yesterday day night and drove it the 120 miles home.... I still can't get rid of my cheesy smile... :) The car is a real credit to Andy, I can't thank him enough for a smooth transaction, I've never felt this safe buying a used car, nothing has been hidden and he even picked me up at the station... He also makes a good coffee.... Top bloke.. Gave it a wash and quick polish today and then tucked it up in its new home... I think the old girl will be very happy here. Personally the car is 90% what I want and I basically plan to enjoy it as much as I can, it will be my daily transport but will live in the garage. I do have a few plans, firstly the lights... How rubbish are those, plan is to make my own headlight loom and go for night breaker lamps. Next are the tyres, they are not the best, luckily I've got a set of nearly new yoko prada spec R's in the garage from my old CRX track day project, they are 195 so should fit a treat, hopefully I'll get them fitted next week. Also got a CDA in the post, guy on the CRX-UK forum had one for sale as it's too big for his car.... bargain, right place right time, managed to pick it up for £70 delivered so I'm well happy with that. That's about it for the time being apart from sorting out a few minor electrical gremlins, horn didn't work but a quick text to Andy and it's sorted, also the stereo only has a permanent live instead of a ignition supply so this on the list.. Rog (very happy)
  21. And a few of her cleaned and polished before bedtime.. ;) Rog.
  22. I'm in, I've only had my rado a day and the heater illumination does my head in...lol, I thought the bulb had gone but I guess it's just poor design. Same as Jim for me please, OE green with red/blue for the temp. Rog.
  23. Don't worry Andy, I'll look after her.. Tucked up for the night in her new home. Rog.
  24. Sean just spent a few hours last night reading this whole thread, very impressive, funny thing is it's written in the exactly same style as your uncle Tris, you both have the same passion as each other and I can honestly say that if I didn't know better I swear I could have be reading a project thread on CRX-UK...lol. We need to get him into a Corrado.. So, what's the score with the car club? Bought back few memories seeing your pics, I was in Collingrad for 'Tiffs' course (96-99) and was on the Car Club committee, spent many a 'duty' messing about in that club... Happy days. Rog.
  25. Very nice, they do look lovely in white. Rog.
