have a read at the 'definitive vr6 cooling guide' or similar thread title - its stickied, try the search too
i understand the yellow sensor in the thermostat housing signals water temps, so that could be old and crusty/ faulty, or the actual dash guage could be misreading the signal
my temps are also very low, like 60 - 70 in current conditions but will rise when stopped, and having changed yellow sensor etc and checking pipes with an infrared temp guage they are actually reading correct, my *problem* is one of previous owners has fittted a low temp thermostat which opens at 70 degs or roundabouts - way tooooo low for winter driving - maybe yours is the same

yep actually really enjoyed that episode, had a few hammy moments but they were countered by some genuinely funny incidents
cant believe that death road  truly frightening, and acting or not JC looked very worried
-
the coppers round here use an R32 and a passat estate W8
besides the twin tail pipes the W8 looks completely standard, a real sleeper

really depends on what you are willing to strip and prep yourself, friend got a full respray in Devon for £800 using the bodyshops young guy on evening/ weekend rates - turned out well in his case, and cheap too
i've had a quotes for circa £2500 for full respray and minor touch ups and that's just handing them the car as is, but that didn't include the more awkward tell tale spots

yeh impressive that looks really well, will definitely try this :salute:

fitted new ngk plugs, cleaned properly around the airbox and around the bay generally :)
discovered the bonnet earth strap had bust :|

:salute: top man cheers... time to bribe my local pizza place for use of their oven
-
Take out the glass and replace it with LexanFMR, saves a fair bit of weight and you can't really notice the look of it (if you cut and form it correctly), other than it is louder.heard about this briefly before and very interested, any more info etc please?

hey liking this a lot, looks the nuts 8)
just got a standard black vr myself and was thinking black/ gun metal wheels and the rear tints too - yours has convinced me :salute:
-
good to see another one in safe hands :salute: liking the shared ownership approach too, would like to try that with my dad - only getting him to pay for everything, and me doing all the driving
manifold has come up well
-
mega mega frustrating when something like that happens :(
its come on a long way since i last looked tho :salute: but take it you couldn't repair the damaged head then.
-
i could live with it... provided it was a track machine only
-
hey welcome along, nice ride
exhaust looks like a miltek or a magnex to me.
-
 yeh hats off to that guy, would like to see how it turns out too

Short the rad switch connector to see if circuit is live on both speeds if you haven't already done so too
-
i'd guess faulty fan control unit
-
re the head swap, iirc the 9a and kr heads have slightly diferent inlet/ exhaust and valve sizes, i *think* the 9a has small exhausts whilst the kr has larger exhausts, so the 9a promotes torque over absolute top end, everything i've ever read suggests it doesn't make nought difference when they have work done though to gasflow etc
-
which model, and was it definitely empty ie have you introduced air into the fuel system by cranking dry?
-
DG Autotech are launching a fan controller that can do it for you I expect.sounds good, do they have a launch date yet?
-
yep sorry, meant to post back, figured from looking at different places that only the golf VR's and later rados as Toad says have the fan run on... that was after spliting my fan control unit and replacing sender :)
am tempted to wire an overun facility in myself tho just for the aux pump, using a thermotime switch or similar, not given it full thought yet.

diggin the stance and side exit zorst, have you not even been for a sneaky pootle even round the block :D

Also in addition it's not just the wheel arch linings but also the plastic covers that go underneath the bumpers on each side.errr sorry to butt in :) but if these are the two plastic things which live at low level underneath each front corner in the engine bay then i'd be interested in buying, providing their in good/ unscuffed condition - your previous post aint clear about condition of these
Gauge temps

yeh search shows a few others with similar issues
my oil goes up to about 90 - 100, on my previous vr it was always 104+ and that was with a mocal oil cooler, and yeh i think the sensor is on the filter housing
that cooling thread says the cold map doesn't switch off until water temp gets to 70degs, so assuming temps are correct we're running rich, i would've swapped for a regular thermostat when i did the sensors if i'd known at time, but now i don't fancy dong another drain down :|
