there is some fuel saver device of some description on it :cuckoo:a fuel saving device? like a brick under the right pedal
just hope it wasn't an 'ecotek' valve, is amazing how a little TLC can make a car feel soooo much better tho - pity a visit to DGA would mean a ferry trip for me :(
-
hey very good, that's where the cams going :)
looks like a good project, and glad to see someone else with a lot of work to do!
-
and they are removed how? :grin:the sleeve bits just pull off the top of the screw insert things, or push backwards out the manifold if that's what you mean?
-
-
piccy, was looking £4 in for sale thread
-
ok cheers, i'll avoid then :D
-
are they used?yep used but clean, can get a piccy if you need
-
hair dryer or heat gun
you shouldn't need to heat to get the other stuff off, the plastic sleeves just push out backwards, the inserts can be unscrewed with a large alan key/ hex driver
and because i'm a silky salesmen - i have a clean/ complete set of the inserts and sleeves for sale if you need :D
-
hey thread revivial :D
done a search but no luck, beyond the sturdiness issue is there any other benefits to using one of these gruven crack pipes?
-
fitted lupo wipers and went for a blast, sooooo much better
-
that does look mint indeed, good purchase :salute:
pity you can't keep the two, 8v looks nice too, you obviously look after your motors
-
ok i hardly understand any of this - yet, look impressive tho :D

some guy recently had it on wrong way round
-
chains sprockets should be ----0 - 0------ level with cylinder head edge, mark on inside of pulley wheel should also be in line with cylinder had ----=--- mark on outside of pulley should be at 12 oclock |
.... all at the same time :)

ok after doing a bit of research am fairly sure the radiator fan switch part numbers are the wrong way round in first post - please advise if i'm wrong
1. standard 251 959 481c / 92-82 & 97-87 / three pins in a row 22x1.5 screw
2. low temp 701 959 481 / 87-77 & 92-82 / three pins in a triangle (later vr's) 22x1.5 screw
3. low temp 251 959 481k/ 87-76 & 93-82 / three pins in a row (early vr's) 22x1.5 screw
i've ordered from pictures so fairly sure its right but will confirm when i get it next week
If you dont hear the aux pump staying on after switching engine off, does it mean the pump is knackered or could it be something else? I've been noticing for the past few days I never hear the water pump going at it (oo-er) which has me a tad worried.Any advise boys(/girls) ?
Anyone?[/quote:22cmtlwr]
same situation myself, i've got a new 'yellow' temp sender (which incidentally aren't yellow anymore) and i'll be doing coolant change next weekend now so will let you know if it fixes mine
-
yup, they come on ebay a lot, there's someone selling new ones on the bay that *look* quite good too
-
use either an ashley or a tsr one
i had no clearance issues on my KR/ 4 branch, but i was using standard engine mounts, any tilt in the engine makes a big diff over that arc of movement
you'll also need a wire bushing to connect upto exhaust

guys i've just collected this part VAG part number 701 959 481 which is supposed to be the 3 pin in a row radiator fan switch, but what I have been given is the triangle shaped one which won't fit my early vr
can anyone who's bought one of these confirm this is a mistake by VW labelling/ picking the part wrong, or does the first post need to be updated?
am not having a go if its the latter, just keen to firstly resolve and to avoid others ordering this £28 in error

finally got the rear spoiler working again on the switch, only hope it goes up auto now, then cleaned the contacts on the mirror adjuster and that started working again too, so then rescued the little alarm LED from inside the dash
next job coolant drain, thermostat, rad thermoswitch, aux water pump, yellow temp sender and refill.... to then be followed by lupo wipers, rear hub rebuild and the sunroof replacement :D
-
hey you've been busy, defo good progress, need all that sort of stuff sorting myself :D

have to admire the system, but that bill is ridiculous, if you go further through the thread one engineer has generously priced the parts at £7k - so sounds like the garage have just ripped your man off
that said the guy clearly has money to burn and/or little sense, i never get work done anywhere/ for anything without first getting an indication of cost :cuckoo:
