vacuum leak, overfueling (fuel pressure on fuel distributor) or timing out would be my not very good guesses
-
don't know anything about carbs mate, i think a bigger problem is keeping the engine at right emissions to suit your year of registration which is a 2ltr isn't it?
-
the fact our future taxes are getting spent on a ridiculous attempt to stimulate the economy annoys me, realising rados are getting scrapped because of it really :bad-words:
-
shame :( as really trying to keep my valver build 'in its era' using little tricks like that
will ask about round here
(sorry for being off topic btw)
-
I you really wanna go old school, find an old Seat Ibiza 1500 (circa 1991) and get the dizzy off that... it's a bolt on replacement for the valver one, but is vacuum advanced and can be re-weighted to get the advance curve right for the 16V engine...That's what I ran on my MKI 16V and that made over 150bhp from a standard KR engine with just that dizzy and a Weber Red-line Firebreather throttle body, using the standard K-jet system... 8)
hey that is a top tip :D
how do you, or who is capable of rewieghting a dizzy's to suit a different profile?

i replaced these on my engine, try the search, the bearings are available :)
-
eventually found my rebuild mojo, so carried on gas flowing the inlet runners on my 16v head.... after leaving it untouched for nearly two months :(
this weekend plan to finish the inlets and get cracking on the shorter/ smaller and hopefully easier exhaust runners...
-
nice 8) a slim spacer will make them sit in the arch even better
-
yeh good read and nice set of motors there, got to the best in the end eh :D
-
you measure the one you have on at the moment, if it's non in/ around 52mm then it's the smaller 40mm one
in summary the larger one = better top end, thinner one = better low end, its all about gas speed
i'm fairly sure the TB trick you've heard is for the 1.8 8v golfs
there was an aftermarket TB called the webber fire breather, basically a large single butterfly, but you hardly ever see these anymore... i missed out on one a few months ago :(
-
wowsa :D diggin the powder coating, looks like a starry sky
-
sweet looking motor man :salute:
-
yeh that'll be the cams keeping you revving longer
really need to get moving with mine, lost the modifying mojo recently, seeing someat like yours rewets the appetite
let us know how you get on at stealth
-
i just used the standards studs
i was working off four axle stands in the drive (goggles required :) ) am fairly sure I offered it up from underneath
-
will say it again, booootifull looking motor, looks immaculate
still with you on the black badge, they don't chip either :D
-
very nice engine you have there, looks similar to mine in the garage (in bits anyway)
hows the engine breaking in, are the gains noticeable?
-
you'll be able to squeeze it in fine, got mine in no real issues
always use new exhaust studs, they weaken and are more prone to fracture with the heat they endure, so save yourself/ next owner the headache of having to deal with them breaking off as they cost pence each :)
-
if it's in the bay then all you can really do is keep flushing it through with water
alternative is to remove blocl and get it tanked at an engine shop
-
if you mean outside of block, get some 'gunk' degreaser from halfords, scrubbing brush and soapy water - brings grime off a treat
to avoid complications try and avoid electrical connectors
-
yeh agreed as above, that's the accumulator and only needed on mechanical fuel injection to maintain fuel pressure when fuel pump is off
presume you'll get better fuel pressure to your rail with that removed
-
agree with those sentiments, and have just decided to keep my daily following a good service
the only thing with finance is you will probably own a higher value car once the finance is paid - probably still not worth it for the overall saving tho
horses for courses and all that
lil b - let us all know whether you buy this or not
-
