Alignment in progress.
-
Congrats! I had knocking/tapping start during my MOT. Damn near soiled myself but turned out to be loose PAS pulley bolts. Doh. Always something forgotten after a rebuild. Thankfully, I'd double checked everything else as it's the last thing you want for something around the running gear to come away when you're giving it an Italian tune up! 👍

Have you checked the battery earth? There is an earth stud just behind the battery on the chassis leg that the neg terminal (and a few others) connect to. If it's intermittent when you're moving the battery around, chances are it's either that or the cable itself. Also worth completely disconnecting your fuel pump too. It may have been coincidence that it started around that time, but completely removing all wires (ensuring you don't short them on eachother) will rule that out.

Yeah that's where I got it mate. I was hoping to get number plates too but he no longer does them.

Just got my repro original dealer sticker put back on. Lockyear VW/Audi, Cranleigh, Surrey.

Good luck mate, looks great! 👍

Thanks mate. Great minds! I've just ordered some wiper nuts as they're letting the scuttle area down (I've replaced the screws either side). I'll be booking alignment for next week too, as tracking and camber are way off after all the work underneath. Nearest Hunter setup is 35 miles away in Exeter though! 🙄 Gutted for you about the screen. As uncomfortable as it might be, you're probably best watching them through the whole process to make sure it's done right this time!

Morning mate, is the bottom centre the correct place where the dealer stickers were located? I've just received mine so just making sure it's in the right location; or was it simply anywhere that the person fitting it deemed appropriate?
-
I've just MOTd mine last week after being off the road for almost 4 years. The MOT tester actually said the emissions were far better than most new cars, and i didn't do any of the ECU reset procedure so I'm not sure it makes much difference mate. All I had were a couple of warm ups at idle to bleed the coolant and check running, and about 4 miles of minor country roads and a quick blast and stomp on the brakes near the end to try to bed them in a bit.
-
Not good mate. It's not like it would even be better to remove it and have someone else re-install, as it'll risk scratching the paint in the lip leading to rust.
-
Thanks buddy! 👍 I was reasonably confident considering the amount of stuff I'd replaced, but there's always emissions, headlight aim & brake efficiency which I couldn't test so a tad nervous about those.

Well Dox, you were right after all! I checked earlier by feeling the pulley for movement and running the engine to see if I could see any play - which I couldn't. Just took the cover off and released the tension from the belt, and there was a small amount of play. Checked the bolts (which I'd replaced over the past couple of months and had torqued up as per the Bentley) and one was very loose with the other two barely finger tight! Tightened them up to tight as f*** NM, and knocking no more! Thanks mate! 👍

Very chuffed, thanks. Jan 2016 was the last one it had! Thanks mate, and good luck for yours! 👍 Just checked and all good on that front. Tried bleeding again but no difference unfortunately. Funny enough, a neighbor has just offered me a MK4 one for nowt that he had left over from a V5 - Scirocco conversion. Might take him up on that offer if it all fits fine as though I'd prefer a standard Rado one, I'm not sure if they're even available new and crap aftermarket ones are silly money as well.

MOT passed, yay!!!!! One advisory on a rear wheel bearing. 🙄 Started making a right racket on the ramp though. Soiled myself thinking it sounded like bottom end knock but the tester got his stethoscope out and its the PAS pump. Anyone have any recommendations for a replacement? Other than that, she was grand on the short shakedown I gave her. Perfect time for some summer cruising on the country roads. Next stop, full geometry. 👍

Looking good mate. Not too far to go now, surely? 👍
-
All little wins lead to big ones overall mate. Gutting when you're at the mercy of someone else to complete work in order for you to progress, and they let you down like that though! 😠

Yep, the OE switches are known to get very hot and break down, and it has been known to cause fires in the past. The inline fuse helps guard against that, and I fitted one too. I'd replace the fuse as it may have blown for a reason, rather than bypassing it. If it goes again, it could be an indication that your switch has had it so keep an eye out.
-
Is this correct? The fuel pump relay energises before the engine cranks. Same with the ECU relay. If you remove the fuse box cover, just put your finger on the casing of relays 67 or 167, & 108. You'll feel it ping as it energises so you'll know that power is attempting to be supplied there.

Thanks for posting. It might be difficult for us guys in the UK to obtain the Mercury Cougar ones anyway, but the Ford Fiesta will be in abundance. There is someone here who is in correspondence with VW Classic Parts, and they've declared a willingness to produce a run for both sides dependant on numbers. Think there are around 60 so far, but if the same could be done in the States (assuming that's where you're from) I'm sure it would push it over the line for minimum orders required....

Yep, that sounds right. 👍

Yeah first click should be low beam, second main beam. Just disconnect the yellow plug for the resistor. I've just left home but can get some pics later if you like
