  1. Indeed Sean! Still can't believe the missus approved it though, as we all know, it was actually her money! Just need to get enjoying it before I bugger off in April for 8 months! :(
  2. The top gear team were pelted with rocks and had to flee whilst filming in Argentina. Probably had something to do with the number plate on the car. H982 FKL. It was apparently a coincidence! https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCMQqQIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Fmedia%2F2014%2Foct%2F03%2Ftop-gear-argentina-jeremy-clarkson-bbc&ei=qiMvVO6BG42S7Aa4koCIBQ&usg=AFQjCNEEZbpreqM96oqghwfzYzgz7XIzGw
  3. Yeah I know buddy. wiring looms first so they should keep me busy for a while! I'll do the ABS system after that so should give me plenty of time. I'm not touching the exterior for a couple of weeks apart from to fit the sunroof and making the car watertight in case I need to leave it in the open. Hopefully not though!
  4. Thanks for all the positive comments guys. :thumbleft: I can't stop looking at the photos and the reflections, even without a coat of wax! I can't wait to start putting it all back together, I just need to keep reminding myself not to rush it for fear of scratching the it now! I really want to get it back on the road sharpish though, otherwise what's the point! Giving myself until the beginning of December to get it in for MOT.
  5. Good news mate. How are you finding performance with the 2.8 compared to the cammed 2.9?

    Top tip

Haha, I just smashed the old one to bits when I did mine. Couldn't get the screw back in either so I had to cable tie it in place. :thumbleft:
  7. Pics! Phone pics so not great quality and the car was a bit dusty, but even so they've done a great job! I may give it a finishing polish when the paint has hardened, but I'm pretty happy to be honest. :D He did take some photos of with the car at various stages too which he showed me, and is going to email so I'll have a bit more for the gallery when its all done. I'll have it back in my hands in a week or so, and can't wait!!! I also picked up a Mk3 Golf sunroof mech today which I'll put my freshly painted cover on. I'm pretty much there now apart from some glue for the bonnet foam, ready for assembly!
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Corrado-Window-Strip-Trim-brand-new-very-rare-/141426462488?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20edac8f18 Selling lots of "very rare" bits with most way overpriced, but this is pretty fair if its genuine. Think its the scraper/exterior slot, but could be the interior one. Can't really tell with the crap pics.
  9. Yeah get that corner up in the air and spin the wheel by hand. The splash shield rubbing on a particular point is quite common. I've also had it when I just had new tyres fitted. The chimps at ProTyre fitted the weights right in line with the caliper, and it was just catching the top edge on every revolution.
  10. Thats a good point actually Kip, I'd kind of overlooked that! :embarrassed: The single sided stuff is what I've been looking at to be honest. It's probably the only stuff I'll be able to source that will work relatively well anyway by the sound of it. There's plenty on ebay and provided its not to dense or thick, it should work well and stick nicely. I can cable tie it up every ft or so anyway to keep some tension there and ensure it doesn't unwrap as soon as its in!
  11. I'm becoming what I despise, and that is being negative about everything. I feel you'll be hard pushed to achieve all that in the time frame, but I do apologise for the negativity. Good luck and I applaud your enthusiasm for detailing. :thumbleft:
  12. Already have the loom tape James. Just need the foam now to help stop rattling and for the OE look.
  13. Getting the car back next week and the first job is to replace the entire interior wiring loom. As with most things, after 20 years its seen better days and has crumbled away almost entirely. Anyone know where I can get some replacement stuff, or what its actually called as I'm struggling to find it? Dimensions of the original stuff would be nice too, but not critical. Thanks all!
  14. That too James! That what I spend in products alone doing a two stage mop and wax.
  15. All of that including 3 stage mop in 6 hours???.......................
  16. Well I won't be burning it, but I'll keep hold of it in the folder. Won't add to the price, but its these little things that add up and show a car has been appreciated by previous owners. Incidentally, whats gonna happen to the CCGB tax disc holders now? Got one in the folder too, but will they be making expensive beer mats from now on? Worth sticking em on ebay whoever has them all, probably gone up in price as they are almost literally "scene tax holders" now!
  17. Thanks chaps, typical that I've not been doing much at work the last couple of weeks, but I start courses again non stop from the 13th until April. Mic, I've got quite a bit to be getting on with before its back on the road. An entire interior loom to fit, new bits and pieces all over the car, pretty much a full ABS system replacement, and 288mm front brake upgrade. Probably won't be back on the road until Christmas. :(
  18. It's very fiddly but do-able. Hardest bit is removing the little retaining screw. Have a look in the wiki, there's a guide iirc.
  19. Update! Had a call from the body shop at lunch today, she's almost finished! Body has been completed, just bonnet and tailgate left to do, then windows to go in. Wish they'd have taken more pics along the way for me, but have to drop of the windscreen trim tomorrow so I'll get some then. It'll be ready for the end of next week apparently. Can't wait to see it and get it home!!!!!!!
  20. Sorry to hear this mate. No idea what it could be though, bit beyond my knowledge. If you need anything let me know and I'll help where I can mate. :thumbleft:
  21. Welcome Tom! Look forward to seeing some pics. The uprated headlight loom is just that. The standard loom drops around 2v before hitting the headlights as it takes a long way round. The uprated version goes directly from the battery via a couple of relays so you get minimal voltage drop. Chances are though if it's an old one that's been cut and spliced in, it'll be the cause of your main beam not working. Worth removing it and reinstating the original and go from there. Have a look in the wiki section on how to make your own, or the suppliers forum for good pre-deployment ones which will plug straight in. :thumbleft:
  22. Different system on the Golf unfortunately. There are a few on ebay around the £50 mark, but probably find one cheaper here by asking in the wanted and breaking sections. There are a few companies who refurbish them too but not particularly cheap, although probably your best option in the long run.
