Yep, all that jazz to everyone too! :thumbleft:

This absolutely sickens me! I spend a ton of time and money sorting my engine bay to try and make it presentable, then things like this come along and absolutely blow me away an put me back down to my true level, a rank amateur! Absolutely incredible from start to finish. Hopefully some day I can reach this level. :thumbleft:

I wouldn't even go that far. The bonnet can't be much more than around 20 Kg, so I don't think you'll notice any difference what so ever in isolation.
-
Think it's black yeah..... Pretty sure it a yellow connector on it, and you're right, it's on the inner wing beside the battery.
-
MAF is a fair bet, but I'd get the codes scanned if you can to pinpoint it.
-
Check all earth's in engine bay, plus check glove box and boot light aren't staying on. My old valver had an eBay headlight loom fitted, and that caused a battery drain for me.

Louis, you don't want to drop compression as you'll lose power. The only time you'd do it is if you were going forced induction. You can use a mk4 HG though to raise compression, which'll give you a little more power. There has been a thread recently about it, but I think someone had one go pretty quickly after installing so advised against it. Up to you though mate, have a search and you'll find the thread mate.

Will you legend! I'll see if they're still available when I order the rest of the bits I need next week. Thanks mate, much appreciated! :thumbleft: -

Wrong thing Dox, have a look at the first post. Non ABS ones still available but not those for ABS fitted cars. I'll have a look at Passat one shortly, thanks! -

Need these now. Anyone have a pair knocking around that they'd be willing to let go? -
Long since passed I'm afraid Dave. Don't think the OP has been on here in quite some time either.

Not really. You can check resistance of the sensors to see if they're at fault. Here is a guide for a Mk3 Golf I did, but its exactly the same on the Corrado. You can check them at the the connectors on the suspension turrets at the front and under the rear seats for the rear sensors rather than take the wheels off. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=204972.0 I'm sure its possible to check other components of the system with a multimeter, but I don't know what measurements you should expect to see. Generally its sensors at fault, but quite often the pump is on its way out now with the age of the car, with inlet/outlet valves becoming gummed up and stuck.

Have a look in http://www.realoem.me/Volkswagen/RDW/COR mate.

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope Santa emptied his sack for you all! :x-mas:

They have a reasonable reputation for a budget set, but don't expect sophisticated levels of comfort. If you could extend your budget by about £100, there are some good shock/spring combos about for this money. Also AP coilovers have been well received on here recently for that price mark too.

Might struggle, as I'm not sure the Valvers use a MAF..............?

 :D

I think it collects in the chassis legs where rain gets in behind the front bumper Rob. I agree it can be a bit worrying to think of all that water just sitting there though. Did you not buy a cover in the end?

I've been off for a week today, and go back Saturday 7th. I've still got 19 days leave to take before April too, although no doubt the vast majority of that will end up being carried over as usual. Still no time to work on the car though. Go figure................

If I reset the trip once warmed up and cruising on the motorway, I do see mid 30s, but most of my previous journeys have been a lot of stop/start town driving. I'm not worried it's over fuelling or anything, I just have a lead foot a bit too often! Lol.
-
Low to mid 20s is probably average for me, though taking into account the warm up and the fact I'm now in the City with probably the most hills in all of the UK, I can't expect too much. I'd be a bit upset if I took MPG into account based on power output though. The Beamer isn't too far off in terms of speed, but averaging 45 ish MPG around town is literally double that of the Corrado.

Haha, me too. Theres only so much Paw Patrol and Team Umizoomi you can watch! Its not good as looking after the kids at home means I can't work on the car, so it keeps leading me to spend online on it instead! Must get out and take them to the park at least just to occupy my mind!
-
Me too, though having an oil cooler/heat exchanger fail in the past resulting in major overheat and HG failure ensures I keep my MFA on oil temp at all times! I didn't notice the high temp until the water level warning lamp started flashing by which point it was too late. Lets face it though, its not like you'd want to look at MPG in the VR is it! lol.

Cheers Rob. Forgot about the calipers actually. I think I might send them off to Biggred for refurbishment, but I'll attempt to strip the paint and see what they look like first. You can get new pistons and seals quite cheaply from Biggred on ebay, so if I can get them stripped and zinc plated locally it'll also save me a few quid. I'm sounding like I'm not far away from getting it all sorted, but actually I've got 1001 other things I want to do whilst its all apart and easily accessed, including taking off the gearbox again to check the release arm. Possibly even get the gearbox internals looked at which isn't cheap!

Very quick update. A couple more bits arrived today. Rear splash shields and stub axles, handbrake cables, rear ABS sensors and some brake pipe clips. Just a tiny amount of welding, some fuel hose clips, blasting and Epoxy mastic paint on the metalwork, and getting some new bolts or zinc plating my existing ones to do now for the rear at least. I'll get the paint next month and call around a couple of places for pricing on everything else, then hopefully crack on and get it built up. Underside still needs cleaning, but should be able to grab the odd few hours over the next couple of weeks whilst off work and I'll do that before calling the mobile welder out, fingers crossed though! Its a 5p sized hole but who knows what else is lurking beneath!
