I think it collects in the chassis legs where rain gets in behind the front bumper Rob. I agree it can be a bit worrying to think of all that water just sitting there though. Did you not buy a cover in the end?

I've been off for a week today, and go back Saturday 7th. I've still got 19 days leave to take before April too, although no doubt the vast majority of that will end up being carried over as usual. Still no time to work on the car though. Go figure................

If I reset the trip once warmed up and cruising on the motorway, I do see mid 30s, but most of my previous journeys have been a lot of stop/start town driving. I'm not worried it's over fuelling or anything, I just have a lead foot a bit too often! Lol.

Low to mid 20s is probably average for me, though taking into account the warm up and the fact I'm now in the City with probably the most hills in all of the UK, I can't expect too much. I'd be a bit upset if I took MPG into account based on power output though. The Beamer isn't too far off in terms of speed, but averaging 45 ish MPG around town is literally double that of the Corrado.

Haha, me too. Theres only so much Paw Patrol and Team Umizoomi you can watch! Its not good as looking after the kids at home means I can't work on the car, so it keeps leading me to spend online on it instead! Must get out and take them to the park at least just to occupy my mind!

Me too, though having an oil cooler/heat exchanger fail in the past resulting in major overheat and HG failure ensures I keep my MFA on oil temp at all times! I didn't notice the high temp until the water level warning lamp started flashing by which point it was too late. Lets face it though, its not like you'd want to look at MPG in the VR is it! lol.

Cheers Rob. Forgot about the calipers actually. I think I might send them off to Biggred for refurbishment, but I'll attempt to strip the paint and see what they look like first. You can get new pistons and seals quite cheaply from Biggred on ebay, so if I can get them stripped and zinc plated locally it'll also save me a few quid. I'm sounding like I'm not far away from getting it all sorted, but actually I've got 1001 other things I want to do whilst its all apart and easily accessed, including taking off the gearbox again to check the release arm. Possibly even get the gearbox internals looked at which isn't cheap!

Very quick update. A couple more bits arrived today. Rear splash shields and stub axles, handbrake cables, rear ABS sensors and some brake pipe clips. Just a tiny amount of welding, some fuel hose clips, blasting and Epoxy mastic paint on the metalwork, and getting some new bolts or zinc plating my existing ones to do now for the rear at least. I'll get the paint next month and call around a couple of places for pricing on everything else, then hopefully crack on and get it built up. Underside still needs cleaning, but should be able to grab the odd few hours over the next couple of weeks whilst off work and I'll do that before calling the mobile welder out, fingers crossed though! Its a 5p sized hole but who knows what else is lurking beneath! :eek:

Good stuff, I had a mare trying to get the brakes to some sort of reasonable operation and good enough to at least pass the MOT. I put about 5 litres of brake fluid through it too! I can't believe it was a simple fix after all that! :bonk:

Have a look what is on there at the moment Ron, but generally the later cars had rubber with earlier cars having the fibre gaskets. The rubber type use longer bolts so you don't want to get it wrong unless you want to buy new bolts too.

Perhaps just take the battery back home to charge occasionally, SORN the car, and come back to it in 3 or 4 months Jim. Take a bit of time away then reacquaint yourself with it after that time. They're old cars and can't be compared to new stuff, but they do become a little tiresome if you drive them too often. Just a thought though I imagine you've considered it at some point.

Hmmm, both reasonable brands, maybe worth exchanging them though, and opening the new box whilst you're there (if its a local branch rather than delivered), to test them quickly.

The race should need to be pressed in. Somethings not right there mate. The outer bearing itself only remains in place with the aid of the slotted washer and castlated nut, but the races should need to be pressed in. What disks and bearings are they, and where did you get them from? Might be worth giving whoever supplied them a bell.

The Pins could probably be done without the thread then tapped afterward. Shouldn't be too difficult and prospective buyers could do it? It's an option I suppose. The surrounds just have little nubs at the bottom to hold them in under the wood of the card I think. One of mine is OK but the other always comes up when I unlock the car.

Door lock pins and surrounds Jim! My surrounds are missing a tab or 2 to keep them down on the door card. I'm sure I can think of more though...... Also, do they just do black?

Just had a look at the new ad. Notice on the pic of the clocks, the water temp is over 100 degrees and the ABS light is on as well. Someone may have been interested at that price for a one owner car if it just needed a small amount of paint, but there are far too many flaws imo.

Its not too difficult, worth reading the timing chain replacement guide just so it gives you an idea with chain related item (tensioner bolt mainly), but its relatively straight forward to remove/replace the head. Just bear in mind that the valve chamber is pretty shallow if you get it skimmed so you don't want to be doing it too often.

Any other symptoms, oil in water, water in oil? Remove spark plugs shine a light down to see if you can see any evidence of water in the cylinders.

If you find out exactly what they need, they may be able to point you in the right direction or enable you to do a bit of research, as I'm sure there are local valuers not too far away from you. I had my agreed value by sending in multiple photographs and explanations as to what had been done recently.

Where are you based? They usually ask for a committee member of a car club to do the valuation if they don't send their own or are unwilling to do it based on multiple photographs and a good explanation.

Its an OBD1 connector, all prior to about 94 year onwards had them. Cheap as chips for an adaptor cable on ebay mate.

I got a couple of sets a while back from ARZ tuning. Quite cheap iirc, however I had to spend a small fortune to justify the postage cost from Germany.
