I'd start with cleaning up the battery earth, but may be worth looking at the alternator and wiring if it dies straight after a drive. The ignition switch fault doesn't cause dash to go blank when attempting to start, and the fact it fires up on a jump start points toward some sort of power issue mate.

I used BG44K a few years back, and I thought the same as you, again, wasn't sure if it was placebo but it seemed to do the trick, and much better than redex anyway.

18" is really pushing it but if it's what you want mate, your call. 35 profile is correct for rolling radius, but it depends how wide the wheels are and what offset as to how wide the tyres need to be.

Chuggs, the BMC is such an easily reversible mod though, and trust me you wouldn't regret it! Subcool, one of my favourites that! Leaves such a slick and wet looking finish, you could almost swim in it! Jim B, ummm, both I suppose! Lol

Yep, still a pup going off some of those on here though, and tons of them still going strong! Yep, the noise is still addictive, especially with a BMC CDA. Still look out the rear view mirror when passing 55mph every time too!

I used mine daily for 7 months Chuggs and also had a few long trips in it over the last couple of months and it never missed a beat. If looked after and preventative rather than corrective maintenance done, they'll go on and on. Not hugely comfortable on a day to day basis admittedly, but an absolute joy on decent roads and around the twisties. Still can't sorn it til I receive the garage keys (hopefully this week), then it'll be one more spirited drive to use up the quarter tank of fuel, and put away for a fair while. I'm on 149,499 miles right now. Still driving like a dream though. :thumbleft:

This still sounds like a dead battery to me, though it's likely you have an earth/short somewhere causing the battery to drain.
-
Sorry to jump on this, but you wouldn't happen to have A & B pillar trims in beige too would you?

Outside air temp sensor. Pushes in from behind to a hole on the right side lower bumper grille, to the side of the tow eye cover mate.

May be worth asking this on vr6oc Hasan. Mostly Golf's on there so more likely to get a response from those with experience. If you fix it, let us know on this thread though!

Should be fine Rob, they're obsolete from the dealer so can't get oe now anyway. Make sure you get the right one though, there's a thicker rubber one for later cars, and i believe it's a paper gasket for early VR6s. Sump bolts are longer for the rubber one mate.

I spoke to you about this change of direction at VW fest the other week Troy, didn't realise you'd already started progressing with it though! Looks amazing and after seeing the standard of John's, I've no doubt you'll make this an absolute machine of the highest order! Best of luck with the build, and I'll look out for this one here and the JMR website for updates. :thumbleft:

Connector for the locking actuator? I can't remember either which I should, I've had the door card off enough times!

VEGE do reconditioned standard ABV engines Ron, and also both bottom end and Head seperately. Have a look on their website as it depends what they have in, but they also sometimes have them on special offer. I know a couple of years ago they had reconditioned heads for about £135 delivered! Gutted I didn't get one now, but the missus vetoed it as it was in December and I wasn't allowed to spend on the car over the Christmas period! The AAA code 2.8 VR6 is also a possibility if you haven't thought of that. The bottom end obviously has less displacement, but the heads are exactly the same as the ones on the ABV, but just rememeber there are both distributor and coilpack varients which differ slightly, but you can easily change the parts over with what you have on your existing head.

Now this is dedication! Was the blue one not in better nick than the red one then? Either way, with what you paid for it and the amount of rust and other issues, i think on this occasion, no one would have had any objections to you breaking it. Top man for sticking with it Martin!

PM me so I don't forget, and I'll have a look amongst the spare looms tomorrow mate. Should have one iirc which I don't mind cutting up, and yours for the price of postage mate.

The green glow is just from a green filter strip along the top of the dials. The actual bulbs are white. I'd imagine the light output of LED's would dilute the filter though.
-
Cheap as chips on ebay for those ones. T509 bulbs.

Give it a good stomp on the brakes every now and then, gives the valves a good work out to stop the sticking which usually causes the issues with the pump. In theory the self test sequence at start up should cycle the valves, but not sure how much movement is involved in it. Just regurgitating what others have said in the past as it seems to work apparently.

I've just received my replacement springs direct from Eibach. The Bilstein customer service was atrocious at best, they just repeated themselves in quite an aggressive manner. I would have screamed at the guy if I thought it would help, but it was just denial throughout. I got onto Demon Tweeks who supplied me them, and bear in mind I only fitted mine around March I think, some 14 months after buying them. Demon tweeks customer service was exceptional and they really put the effort in to get this resolved for me. The reason for some being incorrect is apparently to do with the changeover ride height/springs and plate type on the VR6, so "some may not be correct". Initially though someone had a reply stating that it was an incorrect spring that was supplied by Eibach to them - which I'm more inclined to believe even though Bilstein have backtracked since then. I won't be changing the springs over for a couple of months at least, but I'll update on ride height and quality if someone else hasn't already done it by then. Just to reiterate, go through whoever supplied the kit (the groupbuy was from a company the guy organising it used to work for), as they'll just fob off individuals.

Yep, both correct mate.

Quick pic of the daily, as mentioned it's a 2003 1.1L slow as sin lump, and it's done 144k. That said, in the last 18 months it's had a new clutch, cambelt, entire exhaust including lambda, battery, steering rack, track rod ends, wishbones including bushes, and 2 new tyres. Also had new shocks all round a couple of years ago. It has auto wipers and lights, and A/C, but does have a few battle scars. It drives surprisingly well for such high mileage car though. For £220, as mentioned if it lasts til MOT (end of May not april), I'll be happy and can still flog it on for close if not more than I paid for it.
-
Holy frig! She's a hole!!!
-
Haha, moving away from the "dysfunctional" conversation! Lol, new daily is just an old Pug 206 1.1L runaround. Utter bargain price and had loads of relatively recent work that cost a bit so if it lasts me until it's next due MOT (April) then I'll still be happy. Dox - not sure the pic is good enough, although I'll try to get some more decent ones over the next few weeks in preparation for a possible first entry for next year's calendar.:thumbleft:
