  1. Right all, this is an SOS, to save a Corrado 2.0 16v (Jims old motor) from being broken up.... It's been a beeyatch since day one and took alot of starting and then alot more effort to get it through the emissions MOT. It then ran okay for about 3 weeks, but now it's become very hateful. After about 5 to 10 mins of driving it would start to hesitate and bog down on partial throttle. It would only run on full throttle, which is a bit inconvenient around town in 30mph zones lol. It would gradually get worse and worse until it became undriveable. Switch it off for a few hours and it would be okay, but after 5 to 10 of driving the same problem would return. Now it will not start at all. Do I need this at my time of life, NO! I knew I should have got a Civic Type R.... As this car was a cheap run around, I don't want to spend massive amounts of money (don't want to spend any actually) so I won't take it to a Garage for the scanning diagnostics. Also, I've always fixed my own cars so pride will not allow me to take it to anyone. I've read the previous forum posts on this sort of problem and it seems to be the fuel pump(s) and lambda that gets mentioned alot.... The ignition system appears to be okay, but I have yet to check it thoroughly. I know that Jim spent a shed load of money on it...new distributor, leads, metering unit, injectors.... So any ideas on what it could be and what order should I check stuff? It's a 94 2.0 16v 9a. I know about brakes, suspensions, tyres, carbs, VR6's, Fords, VTECS, etc....but these 9a engines are a mystery to me (as are women these days, What planet do some of them live on, they think money grows on trees......) Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. I'm going to sit down on my lounger in the garden and chill for a bit.....
  2. Yeah that's the one. They were too interested in touting for my business for my liking.....
  3. £80 does appear to be a bargain. Even at this rate they will make a good profit due to the amount of business they will get. Funny thing is there's a place just up the road from them that was trying to get my business. I only went in for directions and they said they would do my wheels quicker than City could...but they wanted £150...so I said no thanks lol I think it will help forum members if we all report on how well they do our individual refurbs...
  4. Westginge, that'll be the reason it wouldn't corner properly. The camber will affect how well you corner as it affects the suspension geometry (ie how much of the tyre tread makes contact with the road). The camber being out by a couple of degrees makes a huge amount of difference to cornering performance, especially on a racing track. Your tracking would also have been incorrect if you put on lowered springs, so it would have been a double whammy Simple rule, if you change the ride height of the front suspension (up or down) or if you remove the strut/hub, then you need to get the camber (and tracking) checked/done. It is not a hard job to do, but you need to have the proper equipment.
  5. Just dropped off the Speedlines I got from off the forum at City Powder Coaters. They are very very busy and I'll not get them back until after the Bank Holiday on Wednesday. Will let you know if they are any good when I pick them back up. £80 for all 4 should be a bargain....but we'll wait to see the finished article.
  6. SOLD Hi David, yes I'm happy to let them go to you for £80. Let me know when you want to pick them up and I'll PM you my address.
  7. Westginge, question for you...Did you swap the suspension over to the lowered version without setting up the tracking and cambers????? As for pads, Ferrodo and Mintex (racing spec) pads are both equally as good. Grooved discs will wear out the pads very quickly, that's why I stay well away from them for track use. Grooved discs do not help braking efficiency on the track. They are more for road use to deglaze the racing spec harder pads as they do not get used hard enough on the road. On a track this is not an issue...
  8. Jim, the front springs were okay and I gave them to a mate, but the rears were too corroded to sell and were binned. Once the powder coating breaks on aftermarket springs they don't last very long....that's why I stick with genuine VW springs.... Yes they are very good in terms of handling and ride, and a good sensible upgrade to the standard shocks. The only reason I took them off was to try on a set of Koni adjustables. It cost me £72 to have the tracking and camber setup so it would not have been worth it to put these back on and spend another £72!...I was only doing a favour for a mate and it ends up costing me!
  9. Still for sale. Surprised these have not gone as they have only had about 25k miles on them and are only 4 years old, with the original Stealth invoice to prove. They are good replacements to upgrade from standard suspension. Only reason I'm selling them is because I stupidity took them off! £90, and open to offers.
  10. A standard Corrado can not live with a standard DC2 on the track, or on some B roads. The Honda has better brakes, suspension, gearbox, engine and reliability. I had a moonstone grey Civic Type R (O5 plate) and I've always regretted letting it go. I love Corrado's and I have two (VR6 & 2.0 16V), but sorry they can't live with fast VTECS. The one advantage a VR6 does have over a DC2 is comfort and looks.
  11. nino, yes you can use them on a 1.8 16v with standard or lowered springs, with your existing top mounts.
  12. KONI STRT Front and Rear Shock absorbers for a Corrado. They are off a 2.0 16v, but will also fit other Corrados. They are all in good condition, with just light surface rust. The seals are perfect with no leaks at all and there is no rust or damage on the piston rods. All four are still hard and give a smooth ride. They were purchased by the previous owner of the car in Jan 2008 from Stealth Racing and I have the original invoice. I think they have done about 25k. £90 ono collected. I can post but you'll have to pay the postage cost on top.
  13. Krishen, sent you a PM.
  14. Great, dropped you a PM.
  15. Dave, if I'm correct in reading that it is £40 for all 4 of them, then I'll have these off you. I can pick up on this Tuesday.
  16. Well Jim, the money you forked out on general maintenance was money well spent as the engine really does run well now. Just a slight noise from the alternator region that I need to take care of, which I hope is just the belt. It uses so much less fuel on short runs in comparison to the VR so it will pay for itself very quickly.
  17. Karl, (old man lol) if I were you, I'd keep the brembo's and take some paracetamol for the pain! You'll have to go for a spin in my valver now that I've put the Konis/VW Motorsport springs on.....hard is an understatement lol.
  18. I had SPAX on a car (not a VW and it was rear wheel drive) and found them to be very good for traction and braking, but the ride was a bit jiggly. When I changed to Bilsteins I found that traction and braking was crap, but the ride quality was great. Sorry this hasn't helped!!
  19. No. And I don't think any manufacturer will do a replica Corrado. As much as I love Corrado's, there are loads of other cars that have a much bigger following and cult status that would be replicated before a Corrado...
  20. I've got hold of these Koni Sports off a friend of mine. They are not the standard ones you get in a Koni Kit as they do not have shortened rods and have genuine VW Motorsport Springs and Jamex Bumpstops. I have put them on the car, the ride height seems to be good, not too low. The car corners very flat with them on. They do seem to have good potential, but I will need to get the camber and tracking set up before I can judge if they are any good. Hopefully will do that tomorrow.
  21. Benjevw, thanks mate, it's good to be back.
  22. Rusty, if it's just leaking from the top out of the adjuster, then to be honest, it will take ages before it will fail so you will probably not notice any difference for months and months. Also, it probably would not even fail an MOT as the tester would not even spot it. I will come back to you tomorrow with regard to the ones my mate had to see if he still has them for sale.
  23. JohnnyH, okay, I'll find out if he still has them and put some pics and prices up. Obviously Rusty has first option on them.
