  1. got new cables from the link above, having a absolute nightmare trying to get the clips for the bowden cables back on though, just no room and so much force required. Managed to break the bit of plastic the clip joins to on the windscreen flap too. So cant even fix that one at present....anyone doing this you have been warned. Now need to find some kind of clip that can hold the bowden in place and be screwed in position...anyone got any ideas!!.
  2. You got ABS? have a look here http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... =abs+clunk
  3. yeah same here mine went this week, GSF (prob where it came from) sell them for around 75 plus the dreaded. An original sealed bosch item though. Only took a matter of minutes to fit though (like about 2) how much did they charge you for labour!
  4. right checked part numbers again cu1071 definatley for a four cylinder engine. The thing is the only site i come across with the part number cu1074 which is the part number i believe i require if im supplied the necessary by the RAC (they seem to use a company called FuelParts) is quoted as being £300 and there is no way im paying that when the equivalent part from GSF is around £70. Can i get confirmation off anyone that an ignition coil for a four cylinder is not appropriate for the VR6 Mine is a dizzy model by the way i just want to know my stuff for when the RAC chap comes back in the morning, as i'm going for a refund from them. thanks Edd
  5. Thoroughly pi55ed off Having just broken down in the pouring rain in cheltenham the RAC have done me a goodun. Car wouldn't start would turn over but not fire. Friendly RAC guy diagnosed coil. He had one in the van that he thought was the correct one, we put this on and the car then started. having now driven home down the M5 the car is runnning really badly. Lots of missfiring etc have check the ht leads etc and they are all pushed on well. The part number for the ignition coil put on is: FuelParts ingnition coil CU1071 at a whopping cost of 85 quid (available for 40 on there website) The coil i should have from the Fuel parts online catalogue is CU1074. I have found the coil i have been given down under the 4 cylinder section. Is this likely to be the cause of the missing (i would imagine so as all was fine before) and where do you think i stand with regards to the part i have just had to buy at a significantly overpriced cost. im wet skint and rather annoyed now Edd
  6. i had exactly this for ages. Always rear left. In the end i had to change the heater matrix as i was getting the tell tale coolant smell and misting screen. I also cleaned out leaves etc from drain holes by bonnet. My front footwell carepets never felt damp like the rear though which i always though was strange but i have not had any problems since. hope that may be of some help edd
  7. i too need one of these as i broke mine when replacing my matrix. Etka gives the details of the length of the bowden cable but they are on back order from vw and i was told there was no guarantee as to when one would arrive. plus they were looking for around £30 for it if i remember correctly. Having been disgusted by the price and having lost interest somewhat i am currently learning to deal with the frustration of misted up windows everyday. However, the way i see it the length of the bowden cable to a degree is irrelevant (can be too short) as long as a the movement of the cable inside the outer casing is enough for the controls to opperate sufficiently. Therefore it doesn't necessarily have to be a specific vr bowden just one of a similar length but of equal movement i.e ----========---- where the minus (-) sign is the cable and the equals (=) sign is the outer casing. when centralised its the length of the minus bit that is the critical part. Anyway hope that makes sense i think it does to me, a bowden cable is basically like the cable you would have on the brakes of a bike. An old cable from any other vw may do the trick as long as it has similar parameters of movement. And that can be checked by looking length of travel of the heater contraol arm when it is moved through its full rotation. i may as always be mistaken so please feel free to correct me if im wrong. If you find one that works please let me know which one you got as its a pretty easy job to do andit won't take me long to be able to see properly out of my windscreen again. regards edd
  8. Had a rattle for ages thats driving me mad now. Basically a squeaky rattle worse over short quick bumps in sucession. Definatley coming from passenger side. Had originally put it down to a worn CV joint which i know is going on that side. Now having had a look underneath it seem the Brake bias has a bit of play in the hinge on it. Side to side movement on the pin. Has anyone had this before. Brake bias is definatley not seized so dont want to replace it at a cost of Parts £75 + Labout if i can avoid it. Plus if i do replace it and i at least put it on myself how'd you go about getting the thing off i.e. pin out Cheers Edd
  9. how about you feed your abs light from your oil pressure light feed :D that should get it thru!
  10. Usually give My MAF a good clean if i get hesitiation or stalling issues. Usually does the trick, incidentally happens far more regularly when am running my BMC. Just spray the hot wire with some carb cleaner...carefully tho last thing you want to do is break it. Mines a dizzy too by the way. give it a go you never know Edd
  11. what did you have to do to fix it? Edd
  12. Anyone find out the solution to this?? i have exact same problem. All discs and pads and bearings new. Will get sensors tested tomorrow, but its the grumble noise you get from a cold pull off thats odd. You can feel it through the brake pedal. ABS is also tempramental. i.e. sometimes it will come on and usually turn off as expected (abs clunk always apparent through pedal so thats okay). but sometimes wont turn off. Also if it has turned off it will invarably come on at some point but can take anything between a few seconds and ten minute of continuous driving!! Its the grumble through the pedal i find strange feels like the ABS is trying to do something.
  13. Well i found this on the drive and being the only VW in the family i figure its prob mine...any idea what it is and where it goes??! EddDSC00362.JPG[/attachment:93c4a]
  14. Hey mods Having been thinking about new rims on and off for about two years there is always the issues of rubbing with different sizes and tyres and suspension setups etc and i always end up backing out Could it be worth having some sticky threads for each type i.e. 16 inch rims thread, 17 inch thread, so people can let us know what they have width, offsets, coillies etc and what they have had to do to combat any issues. Its seems when you ring the various dealers they will tell you all will be fine but ultimatley often aren't as genned up with c's as most people on this site. It would certainly help me right now....especially as numbers dont seem to work in the search facility Thanks Edd
  15. volkscars this the one in Kinver, something like that. he has quite good cars dont know where he finds them from. But in all honesty they are usually way overpriced and when he refused an AA/RAC inspection on a car i was seriously intersted in i walked away. He had his reasons which i understood, but if your paying over the odds you want to make sure you are not going to get caught out. This was a few years back mind and things may have changed!!
  16. Gutted man, this cars virtually identical to mine, model, age, colour etc feel for you mate. Its always in the back of your mind that with a car this age some others wrongdoing can leave us at a real financial loss. Hope things work out. Edd

    starting quandry

Hey folks, Been a while since i posted on here, hope all is well Over the last few days the VR seems to be taking a little longer to start. Normally it starts very quickly after 1-2 seconds of the key being turned, but now its taking 3-4 seconds. Just a noticeably little bit longer!!!! Any ideas why!? Edd
