  5. Thanks Kevin, Kip and Supercharged, I'm not too concerned about the idle, I'm more worried about the vibration up to 2000rpm, It had a new clutch fitted before I bought it and I found one of the bolts (one next to the earth strap) completely loose and a hose clamp on the oil breather loose, therefore leaking oil into sparkplug 1 area, Also there is thrust release bearing squeal(actually more like a faint squeak). to sum it up, I've started to doubt the integrity of the clutch job( maybe they forgot to tighten the clutch bolts!!!) and am thinking it might be a good idea to remove the gearbox to check everything. Maybe someone can give it a once over at Stanford hall on Sunday I'll look into giving it a leak down test
  6. Thanks for the reply Yeah, plugs look good, engine was warm, fuel pump fuse removed and plug pulled off coilpack
  7. Hi I've just carried out a compression test, I thought I did it properly but then read up that you should remove the intake from the MAF and put you foot on the accelerator, but apart from that I think the results are pretty accurate here are the results CYLINDER, 1....2....3....4....5....6 1st try ...185 190 170 183 170 190 see note below 2nd try ..190 198 178 190 180 194 Note: I was a bit worried about the results for 3&5 so I concentrated on getting the best from them(making sure tester had good seal ), then I re tested the remaining cylinder, what are peoples opinions?, do they look ok?, am I right to be a bit worried about 3&5, is it possible the head gasket is leaking between 3&5. All spark plugs have the same discolouration(light grey/brown) which I understand to be OK, I've taken photos of the plugs if people will think it'll help. the engine runs well but has a vibration from idle to around 2000rpm(worse between 1500-2000), I have a Mk3 Golf VR6(OBD2) and it's a lot smoother than this one. I look forward to you replies Steve
  8. Thanks John and Troy Sounds great, see you at Premier Inn, Steve

  11. on my way to dropping my missus off at work (moorfields eye hospital) I was stopped while a crane took steel girders up to the 20th floor (or so) of a new building, anyway when I was waived through, the man on the back of the low loader gave me the OK sign and yelled "THATS A CORRADO, YOU'RE THE BAD MAN!!!", I hooted back, my missus said " how does he know it's a Corrado" (She's Australian, they were never imported there).
  12. My situation is that we came from Oz last April, I bought a Golf VR6 and insured it with Allen & Allen because they were the only ones to recognise my driving history in OZ, premium was £600, My wife, who was a named driver borrowed the car and reversed into a 4x4 in a car park (don't get me started on that or how much his repair bill was) meaning `I lost my NCB, I got my renewal in £1180 for the Golf, havent tried for the C yet!! so I was looking through a few posts and it seems that classic car insurance is cheaper BUT you're limited to 5K miles (or so) Question, could you take out a classic policy and then cancel it when I get near to the 5K(after 6 months or so) then take out another one? If you can, then 2 policies = 10K a year, In Australia it's the car which has insurance(CTP green slip) and not the driver, the driver then can choose whether he wants to be insured fully comp this has the benefit that anyone can drive a rego'd car and be insured on it
  13. £50 sounds like a bargain, so what's the catch, how does he do it in a day and be good quality? I'd be interested in one if he can take a mould of someone who nearer and post it to me
  14. I'm not sure if this is in the correct section, so mod if you would like to move this, feel free to do so, This is a step by step instruction of how to install a headlight warning buzzer(relay 36) into the standard relay panel NOTES Relay 36 can be purchased online, i.e. eBay for a little as £3, The new contacts being inserted into plug L and plug H1 are standard throughout Volkswagens of this era, once you find a suitable connector with at least 30 cm of cable(you can cut the speaker wires from a car in a Breakers yard), t The best way of removing the contact form the connector is to cut the connector, To completely remove connectors from the fuse/relay panel, there is a bar which runs between the two banks of connectors, this needs to be moved by 5 mm to the right, this will allow the connectors to be released. Remove fuse cover, Remove lower cover, Unclip the fuse/relay panel from the brackets, Remove plug L from back of relay panel, Insert new contact into plug L terminal 2, Locate brown/white wire from drivers door switch(should be a spare connector behind the panel holding the Bonnet release lever), Wire this into the drivers doorswitch spare connector. Insert new contact into plug L terminal 3, Locate the grey wire going to terminal 58e of the headlight switch, Splice into the grey wire. Reconnect plug L. Remove plug H1, Insert new contact into plug H1 terminal 7, Trace a thin brown/red wire from the ignition switch to above the fuse box, there will be a connector(this supplies the switched positive to the radio), splice into the brown/red wire. Refit the fuse/relay panel, Install relay 36 into relay position 9. This should give you a standard sounding headlight warning buzzer which operates in a factory fitted way. All care and attention has been taken in the making and writing of this modification, Please be aware that the colour of the wires stated may be different in your car. Therefore proceed with caution. Steve

    Hi

Thanks Guys, The cable worked a treat Jim Re. the Yellow wire from headlight switch (terminal 56D), I think it could be a feed for the dim driving lights below exert is from http://www.a2resource.com/electrical/CE2.html J/03. High Beam Headlight Switch, Daytime Running Lights Resistance (Jetta only), Dim Driving Lights (pin 56D with resistor, UK only). High Beam Headlight Fuses. Yellow not sure I'll pursue this at the moment as all my lights work and I've got more important things to do,

    Hi

Hi Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Steve and have just bought a Storm, it's in pretty good nick, I'm planning to do her up (along with another VR6 corrado) and take them back to Australia in Sept. 2014, plans include Climatronic with A/C leather seat refurb, slight lowering new tyres ( different makes at the moment) Stereo upgrade Sort out all the little gremlins with Corrado ownership, brittle plastics, switches, electrics, only had it for 5 days and have so far fitted new throttle cable, fixed sunroof switch, fixed headlight switch fitted Focal 4" speaker in top of dash fixed full closure, does anyone know what the yellow wire from the headlight switch goes to as this has a dead short to negative, and was drawing 6+ amps on sidelight setting, I've just removed it from the switch until I find out details.
  17. Right, Just spent ages reading the whole thread and have come to these conclusions, 1/ 205 50 15 are the size for me (I have a standard (for now) ride height storm) 2/I'm thinking Rainsport 2's (I have these on my Golf VR6), Kuhmo KU31 (is KH31 the same), Conti's (bit exxy) 3/ I'm a tight a*se can anyone reccomend a great budget choice? mr Lobitos, any ideas
  18. looks the same as long as it's got the 90 degree bend which goes to the pedal area Yeah £40 is a lot for a cable, where abouts are you?
  19. That would be awsome:thumbleft:
  20. sorry to revive an old thread but just looked at my throttle cable and it's the newer one with the ball and spring, where can I get one of them from?
