  1. Argh looks like it has been ramraided backwards through the max pooer section of Halfrauds!
  2. Exactly Jim, we have driven faster than the national speed limt but obviously on private roads.. I doubt very much the vast majority of forum users would ever send information to the police, but this guy does seem to be more of a menace to society on the road and as such it's more of a civic duty. ;)
  3. Absolute gold thread. It has made on it onto so many forums including vortex and avforums! Last post might see some justice for the tool though..
  4. Humn might mean a bit few changes in VW's car plans then...
  5. Muppet.. *Edit* Actually after reading this the guy is clearly a lot more than a muppet. Shame he didn't do the darwinian thing and wipe himself out as well as the car. Some quality chops on there, the scaletrix has to be my current favourite.
  6. Few points to consider in this G to VR comparison game. First one being gearing, the VR is much longer geared than the G and as such will be more efficient on fuel. Second one is that I am fairly sure I have read somewhere that a standard G is quicker in 5th at 30 accelerating than a VR so that's that one down the tubes too. As for tank sizes rodders is right, all models from N('92) chassis code on have the larger 70 litre fuel tank regardless of engine. IOW G60, your Golf VR has a different gearbox to the Corrado so some of the ratios will be different, again making a comparison difficult and that's before we get to OBD2 and the 2.8 litre block.... As for what you will get it depends on a lot of things, condition of engine, oil, plugs, HT leads, throttle body, sensors, state of wheel bearings and driveshafts, gearbox oil and condition, tyre pressures, type and make of tyre, how much crap you have in the car, a clean polished car, type of journey and most importantly how you drive. Although I am intrigued by Trig's OBD2 figures, looks like a very worthwhile upgrade.
  7. New pants required me thinks after that one... ..get a lottery ticket too!
  8. Yup, had to take a trip to JMR when 2cc and myself did Nick's beam a few years ago as my beam tool was missing (and still is) a bit. Got three of us in the car including the beam. (Thanks again John, Sunday at short notice!) Please find attached a picture of Nick looking smug...
  9. I don't know, I'd love to keep it, and get a daily driver, which I did for a year with the Leon Cupra, but I struggled to justify the expense of two cars. I would say there is a good chance I'd want to own a Corrado again, but only as a weekend car. In that case the next I would be asking myself is How much is it going to cost me to get another C back to the condition of my old one ?(And is it worth selling it ;) )
  10. None of the work is complicated but the real skill in any mechanical work is learning lateral ways of getting stuff undone.. Rear beam can be done but I would recommend taking it to your nearest stealers to get the beam bushes removed and fitted - beam will go in the back of a C ok.
  11. Good price for it, no doubt about it. The only question you really need to ask is are you going to want to own a Corrado again?
  12. Rog, I would try to get some drives in a few cars with different set-ups. Now obviously things like bigger rims will also make a car feel different but I went through a set of collies (FK-Kongisports) that were supposted to be good but not too harsh and a set of 16v/G60 springs before I ended up where I am now. Have a chat to some of the guys at No-rice next meet and see if some of them will let you go for a spin so you can get a feel for different set-ups. As for what to change, at 10+ years and a good few miles, especially on a sports chassis, your handling will be vastly improved by changing all the rubber bits connected with suspension/steering. Don't just do a few of them or you will just get accelerated wear on the new bits. I would go for complete new wishbones as these are not much money and save you hassle of finding someone to replace the bushes on the old ones. Look to change the following: 2 x wishbones 2 x tie rod ends Front ARB bushes Rear beam bushes Bottom ball joints ARB link rubber bits (Technial term ;)) Top mounts front and rear I would also budget for a bit of extra work when removing the rear beam, the bolts don't come out the VR's because of the brake compensator, getting that off is a PITA due to allen head bolts (New ones from VAG are now hex head) Good time to do some goodridge brake hoses as the rear beam off will mean you need to disconnect the brakes. Dampers are not too expensive from VW but springs are a complete rip-off, as a package I can say that Koni TA's and H&R springs represent good value for money and don't make too many compromises on ride quality whilst giving a good increase in handling. As for getting all that in on budget and using genuine bits (don't go GSF you will regret it) it will be tight but you have PM about an option.

  14. Nice one Doc, always good to have a healthy reminder that despite the age of all our cars none of them are that 'slow' even by modern standards (Unless you have an 8v of course ;))
  15. Nice find but we are still all waiting for 'classic' prices ;)
  16. Need to do this myself as my VR has a seized rear caliper. So just to clarify, all you need is a set of calipers and the goodridge hose kit that allows you to fit mk iv calipers to a mk II. Was looking at this place for a set: http://www.volkswagenspares.com/page.php?page=BrakeCalipers Not too bad at £35 a side but was hoping to pick a pair up for a bit less.
  17. Mr Charged, my fuel pump is quite loud although the earlier pump set up is different from the later ones. There is another widget in the fuel system and that is the fuel accumulator. It is inline after the fuel pump but before the fuel filter. It is designed to retain around 3 bar of pressure in the system to enable 'good hot starting behaviour' To check that everything in the fuel system is sealing properly then just turn the ignition key to run and listen to the fuel pump. It should shut off after a few seconds when it has pressurised the whole system. If it keeps running then either one of the NRVs (Non Return Valve) is sticking or broken or you have a leaky injector. Please find attached an overview of fuel system flow on a K-Jet based system - hopefully this will help a bit!
  18. For me it is all about trying to keep it 'in the period' that the 'rado was built. (Aside from a set of Wilwood 4 pots and some mk 4 rear calipers on my shopping list) That and I have more plans once I have finished this engine build to build a 'better one'. Biggerbigben has done a 1.8T conversion with a rallye 4wd system on it but I believe he is planning to go haldex instead. 8) As for putting an R32 in that is a lot of work unless you go stand alone management due to the requirement to match the loom, clocks, ignition barrel etc for the imobilser. That and there are far too many 1.8T's running around IMHO. Welcome to the forum! :D
  19. I would say no. I don't know what car has had one before the Corrado but I would put good money on the porkers doing it first.
  20. Might have just taken delivery of some nice shinny new parts from RPM tuning from Germany. Just need to tidy my garage so I have some room to work.. (And it is fecking cold up here at this time of the year ;))
  21. :) (On both you finding a supplier and the last bit)
  22. and the long and large skid marks and ruts in the grass.
  23. Huzah, I think.. "Speaking to the Sun newspaper, Clarkson said: “Half the world wants to see the crash so I’m sure we will show it. We’re looking into whether we’ve enough footage of good quality. I imagine we’ll be using it in the first show. Richard has no idea what happened to him so he will be as keen as everyone else to see it.” Filming for the new series begins on January 24 and the first Top Gear show will be on BBC2 the following Sunday. Hammond is reportedly keen for his crash to be shown."
  24. and then the war ended.. ;) You could try anything that is safe for rubber with a high silicone content - any sex shops in Cov? Failing that Autoglym vinyl and rubber care might work ok.
