Chuck my oar in with the 'you get what you pay for crowd' here. The engine will only benefit from higher octane fuel if, as mentioned above, it was designed for it and the timing is set up for it. As for supermarket fuels being crap I used to work with a guy that bought a 3 year old Turbo diesel Volvo estate (He had dogs) to run around in. Despite looking after it the turbo expired after about 6 months. The reason the mechanic offered after asking which petrol he used was that 'Tesco fuel blows turbos because of less lubricants in it' It wasn't the first turbo explosion due to supermarket fuels he had seen either.

Well after thinking a bit more I believe it would be best if we just dump all the info in this thread and then I can organise it on the wiki by car and then break it down into suspension, brakes, engine etc. Even stuff like dimensions of valves for the various engine types is info we don't have to hand and would make it a lot easier to go shopping around for alternatives.

After spending most of yesterday drooling over Wilwood calipers, rotors and hubs (mmmnn superlightness) and getting frustrated by a lack of information on existing parts I had an idea. As the C is really getting old now a lot of aftermarker manufacturers don't list spares for it or list incorrect ones. As a forum most of us have bits on/off the car and cars in various states of repair that would make it easy to measure components off the car. So what I am proposing is that we have a definitive list of aftermarket bits that do fit and a few measurements of components so we know how big stuff is. For instance who knows how big the diameter of the hub and the diameter of the flange on the inside of the brake disc? Once we have a decent amount of information in here and it will have to be car specific (e.g. 16v etc) then I can transfer it to the wiki so we all have access to a useful resource. As a starter for ten I discovered that whilst Pioneer have a tool that list which of their speakers you can fit to a C that the TS-H467s will fit in the rear parcel shelf supports as a direct replacement for the OE ones. Also in answer to the universal question of 'I have fitted lowering springs how much do I cut off my bumpstops?' If you have fitted H&R springs then you need to do the following: For a 16v/G60 spring kit Front = Nothing Rear = 1.25"/ 32mm For a VR6 spring kit Front = 1.00" / 25mm Rear = Nothing Also on the H&R side it is recommended that you fit sports dampers when using the VR6 spring kit only (This will explain why Koni TA's and 16v/G60 H&R spring kits are not so good - the spring rebound rate is mismatched) and also for the VR6 provides the following gem of information that would have saved a lot of us some major headaches: Golf III FA-spring cups to be exchanged. Please use OE VW-parts. Basis Suspension 80 mm - original VW part no. 191.412.341 Plus Suspension 80 mm - original VW part no. 1H0.412.341 Plus Suspension 60 mm - original VW part no. 357.412.341 A They are saying that you need to use the spring cups from a Golf III - these are the middle part number in that list.

How many forum members plan on NEVER selling their Corrado?
Yandards replied to godskitchen's topic in General Car Chat
Nope no plans to at all - until they ban petrol anyway.. -
Could be a million and one things with all the work you have done Sam. Go with Supercharged's suggestion of checking the alt output first though. As the battery is continualy being drained it will probably be shagged too - so a new one there. Assuming there is a drain on the battery with no ignition on then try the following. To check for a drain pull the fuses one at a time whilst checking load on the battery - soon see which circuit is pulling the power and that should narrow it down a bit.

Bit of a silly argument this one. It's a bit along the lines of why does a 30 year old Jag cost more than a new one? Yes the mk.III goof is cheaper but the reason for it is that they are not as desirable as a Corrado. Why? Well there were less Corrados made for starters, second the mk.III is looked upon by many as being one of the worst of the whole range with regards to the GTi pedegree. As for prices now, I think and so do a few others that Corrado prices are as low as they are going to go. Parts are increasingly becoming obsolete which will drive demand up for the current cheapos that are being broken for spares - as such less Corrados available and a higher premium for them.

If u wanted to improve [handling] what would u buy???
Yandards replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in Drivetrain
Yes, the wider/taller the wheel the more the weight = more rotating mass = more energy required for change in direction of rotating mass = less responsive turn in. (Car tramlines) A larger rim in both diameter and width will also decrease your acceleration as again more energy from the engine is required to overcome the extra weight. I am also guessing that you will only be able to fit 8' rim with your drop by using a streched tyre - this is definitely not good for handling at all and I would not recommend driving it hard if you do. Basically it comes down to a decision between form and function - do you want it to look a certain way or drive a certain way? All the decisions are a compromise in one direction or the other. But ultimately is does come down to the driver. During our recent trip to the ring the fastest car on the track was a standard 1.8 16v. Why? Because the guy driving it had a passenger who knew where to brake and the lines for the corners. (One G60, and 2 VR's were also there) -
Looks like another blue pearl effect car. At a guess it must be G/H plate then? Oh and welcome and avoid Baz he has a copy of lube news...

Yeah a complete rebush of all the rubber stuff on the car will work wonders. But seriously your big phat rims are detrimental to ride and handling. -

Really light 15" wheels with some good non-stretched look tyres. -
Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!
Yandards replied to biggerbigben's topic in Members Gallery
There goes another one. As has been said in other threads recently it is only a car, and if you want to buy a house etc then that is up to you despite this obviously being a tough decision. I am sure that you will take what you have learned from this project and only improve on it for your next car. -

A little less OT and amusing too but here are some of the pics of the WIP. The size of the paper in the picture of the pile is A4 -

The What The Corrado Forum Did to my Triumph Today...
Yandards replied to Yandards's topic in General Car Chat
It's in the car ready for presentation to someone who I feel will appreciate on Saturday night at E38. -
Yep, typical of a reactive, rather than proactive government that put cost before human life. How many kids have to die on a dual carriageway before they build an underpass? How many times do the underground trains have to break down before they update the 1940s technology? And so on and so forth. Computers should be made to run the country imo and even a Dragon 32 would do a better job of decision making than Blair and his merry band of gimps. Bring on the revolution!!

Got to post up a huge thank you to the mighty and slightly insane 2cc for all his help so far in the back to bare metal respray I am attempting on my old Triumph GT6 mk III. :notworthy: Thank You! We started on Friday evening and were joined by Tempest and Supercharged on Saturday afternoon who also grabbed a scrapper each and cracked on in between removing Tempest's air con condensor from his C. (Massive thanks to you two as well.) Anyway we were still stripping the thing on Monday afternoon and we still had to get a coat of paint on prior to Tuesday morning as I needed to move the old girl out of the workshop and up to the car park during office hours. Managed to get a couple of coats on and we finally headed back to 2cc's gaff around 3am on Tuesday morning after starting at 9am the previous Monday. Using 2 pack which is an interesting experience, although had to go shopping for a new spray gun and a regulator today as the old one is on the fritz. Will post some piccies up that I have on my phone as soon as I get home after E38 for those that are interested.

Ahem 2p forthcoming.. Parking in disabled bays - you are a knob, no two ways about it. It is no-ones decision on here to decide if badge holders are or are not entitled to it. Parent and child spaces; all the comments make sense but ultimately I would rather see parents lives made a little easier where possible. If the spaces are wider and closer to the shop then great; it does mean there is less likelehood of Chavs flattening some poor child as they drive around the car park in Tescos bouncing off the rev limiter. As for where I park my cars it is always as far away from everyone else as possible, usually on the ends of rows or in corners where one side of the car cannot be parked next to it anyway. As for dents/scrapes I have picked up more of those going to/at VW events over the last year than I have in car parks!

Happy with my Pioneer speakers as a direct replacement for front dash and rear shelf - no speakers in doors. TS-H107 and TS-H467 are the types I have fitted - both are a coaxial type speaker whatever that means..
-
More than happy with mine running a set of pioneer custom fit jobies in the front dash and rear parcel shelf support brackets in the rear. Don't have wiring for door speakers yet (Mine was a poverty spec valver after all prior to the dealer loading up the electric options.) But intend to fit a set of standard size ones and see how it goes. Don't get the rear parcel shelf replacement ones from Pioneer - get the ones for the goof MK. II exactly the same size but for some reason they don't list them as an option for the C. I think I have the TS-H467's in the rear and the TS-H107's in the front. Of course I know little about these things but it sounds pretty good to me and muhc better than the standard pap - the DVD audio quality works nicely too.
-
Post whore! Be joining the viewing maffia for this one as I am still at Supercharged's gaff at the moment.

Er no and definitely not

Don't know about the mk III bits but all the Corrado clutchs will fit the flywheel on all the engine types.
