Cheese.. ..and yes its chuffing windy up here! -
Friend of mine at work did have issues with his newer but high mileage 3.2 VR Passat, the chain had streched with wear causing the cam position sensor to drift out of alignment resulting in an engine management light on and the ECU in limp mode. Given that it essentially a VR6 at its core and given the way the VR looks for No 1 TDC by using a camshaft sensor this could happen to the 2.9 VR fitted to the Corrado. However, we have no engine management light on a C and VAG-COM will simply say the sensor is out of limits - I wonder how many, if any, have been replaced when it's actually wear in the chains?

Another yes for genuine VW original items.

Grim reading but highlights the increased likelihood of either a car stuffed full of kids or bikers being killed in accidents. -
It could also be an issue with the handbrake cables being stiff causing a slight drag and then wear on the pads, also well worth checking the sliding pins move freely and there are no holes in the little rubber boots they sit in - while you are there put a bit of grease on the sliding pin to keep it working well (should be red rubber grease but LM grease will work too). Also worth checking that the pad moves freely (lateral movement only) when fitted in the carrier assembly, it it doesn't this will also give excessive pad wear, easy enough to sort just file down the corrosion on the carrier and then coat with some copper grease. As it has been like it for a while it could be the caliper but worth checking out the other elements of the system as it will be cheaper to replace the handbrake cables and slap a bit of lube on pins than fit a new caliper.

Some good stuff around on those Urban explore type sites.

Meh that's not North you want to try up here..

I do agree that club meets can seem clicky but frankly that only comes down to the fact that most of us have know each other for over 5 years and the only time we tend to get together and catch up is at club meets, easiest way in is to start talking about Corrados because its a common ground we all enjoy!

Steve, as I said it's not been scrapped properly but at the same time it's not been SORNED either - the tax just ran out and its in limbo so highly likley its been broken for bits but the DVLA just don't know about it.
-
Steve, looks like H774 ARC was scrapped back in 2008 but not properly according to the DVLA as its not SORN and it unlicensed..

Handling is terrible, the mk 2 doesn't take to the extra weight of the VR lump well.
-
Get a 4 cylinder car! :) Seriously though, fresh VAG bushes all round followed by a 4 wheel alignment will improve the handling massively and it sounds like you have newer suspension in the form of a Koni street kit - the Koni yellow TAs with H&R springs are the best of the non-coilover suspension in terms of ride vs handling. Corrados standard kit is a front ARB and a rear ARB (built into the rear suspension beam) strut braces do help especially at the front end and there are varying opinions on best options in terms of uprated ARBs. You will of course get a lot more understeer in a FWD car compared to RWD but the VRs are very nose heavy so don't turn in as well as the 4 cylinder cars.

The power to run the fuel pump comes from the fan relay thanks to the wiring sequence so it is more than likely an issue with the fan run on relay not powering down properly. As for failure, 20 year old car with a 20 year old timer relay - just fair wear and tear but there is no 'common' failure. Problem most G60 folks have it that they don't know what should be happening, your fuel pump and fan should run when the engine bay is hot for a maximum of ten minutes but there is the fuel pressure switch that prevents the fuel pump running if the fuel pressure drops below 1.2b to stop fuel being pumped all over the hot engine bay.
-
The fuel pump run on relay (old one marked 90) contains the timer mechanism for the fuel pump run on engagement - this should not occur until after 2 minutes have elapsed post engine off. There is a time limit for the entire process (rad fan and fuel pump) of 10 minutes, this time is controlled by the fan run on unit which should be marked up as 31 in position 14 on the fuse box (position is probably different). If your system is running on (fan & pump) when not hot then it is likely your thermo switch is degraded, this sits near the fuel rail and is a simple switch that starts the entire run on process.

Rule 1 of Corrado questions, do not doubt the Gaskell (RW1). ETKA has a handy list of chassis numbers to build months and I have little doubt that Mr RW1 had a more exact list of every chassis number and build dates..

Pics approved and welcome! -
Blimey, very red. Not a factory item though as you suspect.

Oh dear, no doubt the lowered suspension is of the finest quality too..

Boot light runs off the boot lock mechanism, simply flick the boot catch over with the boot open and watch the light go out..

Sad to see them go but in a way an example of what happens when you change your customer base and move into a niche area of the market - throw in a major economic downturn and unfortunately it all goes belly up. Never had any issue with G Werks personally and Darren helped me out massively at very short notice but I can't say I liked the scene stuff they were producing as it just wasn't my thing.

Really wanted to go to this, last year was fantastic especially walking around with Crazy D on the Thursday night when the halls were all ready to go but with no crowds. Keep an eye out for random mobile phones under demo seats folks! -
About £2750 which is what it is currently for sale at..

I will get it approved today. Overall club ranking is good, we are in the top 3% of clubs for circuit racing! -
Not really that much different to the 9A, the reason its capable of making a comfortable 170bhp with a couple of breathing tweaks and running megasquirt is that unlike the 9A it has all the sensors on it for very acurate and effective fueling - the only real difference between and ABF and a new petrol unit from VW is the throttle body is still cable controlled and not a stepper motor setup. Its also the 1st 16v unit that has a fully adaptive ECU (read same as the VR although a different system) which makes a real difference for refining power sites/loading when mapping. It's also widely accepted that VW de-tuned the ABF lump to leave a clear gap between it and the 2.8 VR6 which only put around 178bhp - as the ABF can run 160bhp just through an ECU map tweak then you can see why.
