Jim's Corrado - ciao to the Fiat! Hello to.. (P64)

Good news on the MOT pass mate, shame about the dampers though. I would see if you can get a run out in a car with the coilovers on that you want, suspension is so subjective so it has to be worth the hassle of getting a ride or two to see what you think. -
Cheers Alex (I did ask for them to be put up) , Got a quote from a UK supplier of bearings for both main and conrods (Mahle ones) for £50 + VAT and delivery. Not too bad and at least they should be German made items.
-
Yeah that's my thinking right now Jim, I think a couple of weekends worth should sort it out and the old comp test numbers need to be up around the 11-12 bar mark to give me a properly functioning engine. It's a shame the bearings are gone as that would have taken a lot less work to sort out :(. On the brighter side it did feel a little pokier with extra 1/2 bar that the DG honing provided so another 3 bar should make all the difference :)

Definite thumbs up for a good car, I remember when you first pitched up in the car and it was in good nick then, all the right things have been done in your ownership and hopefully someone will get a great car. As for price 4k is not too silly given the mods but you might struggle to get people to come and have a look to start with.

shirley Yan wouldn't use GSF crank bearings  Your right I wouldn't; genuine bits all the way. That and I also wouldn't use KR bearings, I used G60 ones.. Kris, I did find the bolt ok although it involved a trip to the 1 pound tool store for a magnetic grabber. I had a dig around the web last night and with some careful ordering from the US I can bring the bearing costs way down, this seals the deal for me really as a £500 bill is now closer to £300.

Yeah I added a couple more pics from my leg of the Scottish road trip when the cars were up this far North. So the 4 cars in a line with the rural scene is from there as is the moody Nugget shot.

Yeah back in one piece mate. Not sure about what the long term options are as I said in the BVF thread. I do know that I want to go ABF in the longer term but wasn't planning on it this soon. It would be good to get this block up and running first given the time and effort so far and that would allow me to consider the ABF planning at a slower pace rather than have to rush to install it.

Interesting. Looks like they have remade the standard scroll too. As for if it works and the claimed boost increases, most charger porting companies will give you around those sort of numbers on a stage IV/V/RS porting process.

Had a passenger ride in this on Sunday evening thanks to my poorly car, it was really rather good. :)

Discussion in here linky So I am going to lock this up.

Strangely i get far more attention from plod for my blue mk2 golf with Hella Blue rear lights on it than the corrado does. dave That'll be the blue rear light clusters, they love stuff like that. I do like the viper green on the new 'roccos, although if they did one in Nugget it would be loads better.

German, Swedish and French a supplier of (not very good IMHO) pattern parts for German, Swedish and French made vehicles. Of course absolutely true, but the man said he was in a hurry............... True but if you order from VW most bits will arrive the following day including Saturdays. Even up this far North the only day the don't get a delivery at the Worlds smallest VW dealer I use is on a Monday.

Looking good Paul, the rear light clusters need a good buffing though - the low sun is really showing the washing marks Been busy doing some buffing on the 16vG60 for BVF, it was/is in a right mess after 3 and half years in the garage. :(

Ah the old 4 cylinder handling Vs 6 cylinder handling debate :) You are quite right Kev fuel economy has far more to do with road conditions and driving style than anything else, my average MPG over last winter was shocking. If you consider the extra drag loading on a wet road compared to dry one then it becomes clear just how many small things can make a big difference; even tyre choice can see 10% gains in MPG.

My wife would kill me but I am interested... :)

Yeah it is a good engine conversion to do and Supercharged's car really flies along, make sure you get the 6 speed box though as I suspect that really makes the difference between good and brilliant.
-
Yep sounds like the loose battery terminal will be the cause. You need a good connection to the battery to get the starter to fire over (largest battery drain) and the reset of the MFA/clock also shows that the battery power has become disconnected at some point (if this occurs during a high drain point, ie starting, then it will reset the clocks).

As already mentioned there are a few reasons although there are some paint codes that were produced for less time than Nugget Yellow (Blue pearl effect for one). I think the reason they are hyped/rated is that it is the only[/i] colour on a Corrado that provokes a strong reaction, you either like it or you don't; all the other Corrado colours look good but you won't find many people who really don't like the other colours. The other reason is that it is probably the only 'shouty' colour on the car, yellow really stands out like a sore thumb on the road (which is handy on motorways as people seem to move over). Again all the other colours seem to suit the Corrados 'sleeper' look.

They had fitted a roll cage to that Reliant, if you look carefully at the A post trim you can see a tube structure that has been fairly well hidden. I also suspect that despite the apparent camera angle there was another car a lot closer to May than the camera crew.

Little update. Was wiring in the new ECU but decided that I just didn't have enough time to get it in and mapped properly for BVF. So I have wired in the wideband controller mainly as a confidence boost that the system is working ok, getting about lambda during warm-up (could do with a touch more revs as it is struggling) and then it sits at about .95 lambda at cruising speed so that is about right with over-run cutoff and WOT enrichment working too. I do know I have a leaking injector out of the four but only when warm; when cold the fuel pump primes as it should but once up to temp if you short out the rad fan run-on switch to run the fan (and the pump) then the fuel pump continues to run until the relay fails the after run-on. This could also be the fuel pump run on pressure switch not working but I suspect it's more likely to be a dodgy injector, a quick check out should sort it ok and I have some spares I can fit. Filled up for the 1st time today stuck 43 litres in and had cover 346 miles at various throttle settings with mixed urban and country roads, so given the engine is still pretty tight I am more than happy with those numbers. Got some minor adjustments to make in the engine bay prior to BVF just as finishing touches, bracket for ISV, mount LC-1 wideband controller properly and fit a 'proper' VAG plug to the radiator thermo switch and I will do an oil and filter change before heading down the road as well.

Exactly what I thought! Likewise. Don't forget the next bit of pain coming most folks way soon, if you have a photo ID style driving license it expires eveyr 10 years. £25 is the cost for sticking a new photo on; if you don't the fines are huge as well as being potentially uninsured and a charge of driving without a valid license. :hitler:

I guessed it wasn't meant as a dig hence the :) at the end of the statement. It's one of those little measuring jobs I keep meaning to get around to next time I am under the car but someone else will need to do a VR beam.
-
That's apparently from the workshop manual because I have a full set of them :) @Mikkijayne, your comment does not make sense, if the rear beams are the same size and the rear track is the same size across all models (which it is as the rear wing inner and outer quarter panel does not change throughout production in terms of width) then the VR should have a wider rear track thanks to the wheels - which it doesn't. Only the VR6 had the 'Plus' suspension setup, the 4 cylinder cars have a different rear beam from the VRs but any 4 cylinder beam will fit another 4 cylinder car regardless of model year. There are some revisions to the rear beam design though the production process and beams designed for Mk 2s and Passats whilst very similar are also slightly different due to weight and intended design use. Dukest as for if a 16v aftermarket rear ARB will fit a VR that depends on how it mounts and how much adjustment there is, best bet is to see what the company who made the ARB offers, i.e. do they do a one size fits all or a VR specific one.

Go on, you know it would need only a little bit doing to get it concours..
