  1. i thought that one chasing me was fairly nippy the other day!!
  2. pass the pepper darling  bollocks to that - i order sneezing powder ny the kilo!!!!!!
  3. as the pivot point changes, everything gets tighter - just think of when you're with the missus and she sneezes ;) - everything gets tighter - as you say, side-to-side & up & down - get the idea?
  4. brother-in-law started as a panel beater with rover from school and knows all the tricks - great source of help and info ;) the other spin is that we're prepping the car and the place he works for is charging me £20 / hr (overhead recovery only) for the painting, professionally done at their large, insurance repair centre workshop     Top class respray for about 4/5 hrs reduced labour rate £80-100 quid Go-on - i know everyone REAAALLLLYY REEEAAAAALLLLY hates me now 8)
  5. quicky, matey - are you pulling my leg here? trust me - its as i've stated - and we're not talking about the gear linkage, just the gearstick - which is totally, wholly, completely, exclusively and specifically inside the car - below that leathery, scrotum-type cover - aptly below the cars knob ;) the big yellow arrow on the pic indicates the path of the large pin that retains the whole mechanism - that lip thats highlighted is in the way so has to move
  6. bloody hell - i'm quite embarrassed by that statement - just keep tinkering and put a bit of thought into the development path before starting really - cheers paul - wouldn't mind catching up with yours mind, on the drive (4wd) side - wish i had the time to progress things that you seem to have. nope - probably just the crappy stone chip black paint making the arch stand out more visually (it was the only thing i had that was black when the wing was repaired and primered  )
  7. no-ones mentioned underneath - you can sit in your drivers seat all comfy and warm and do this - the picture previous is what you see below your gator - the only difficult bit is getting the pin out as indicated - i've given a description earlier - stop flapping everyone  - thats all thats required if you lift your gator, its all pretty obvious really
  8. ....present state - OH MY GAWD!!!!!! thought it was about time the bodywork got addressed as I've been loath to take the car out with the body not matching the performance........ hopefully the results will be good - will see over the next week.
  9. see pic below - the main pin has to be removed in the directiopn of the arrow - the lip highlighted has to be removed to allow the forward movement. so, the precedure is, remove plastics, remove pin rtaining bolt and other 2 retaining bolts, grind lip, extract pin, remove small spring pin that retains pushrods to base of lever and extract whole assy.
  10. gaz - if you can sort this out sharpish, i'll abviously "do you a deal" for beinmg so helpful and progress with other kits for anyoine else on exhchange - sooner the better whilst i'm on holibobs before i start my new job.... ;)
  11. it'll be coming back the same day for gawds sake - if i don't get the exchange item back, i'm left with a car with no gearstick. the easiest way is to just send a stick for modding and then theres no hassle. if i had a spare stick it wouldn't be a problem.......
  12. you should know as well as anyone, chris - the gearstick is modded. Anyway - being really DUMB! I've just realised I've got a ""spare" corrado :) at the side of the house so i have an exchange unit ready to go. What you'll all have to bear in mind here is that you need to get your sticks out (in best finbarr saunders style ;) ) which involved grinding/filing the front lip off the aperture where the stick lives. This is to allow the central pin to travel forward. To sort these out as there's some interest and i'm off for 2 weeks & got the time to do them - i'll have to turn then round sharpish so i'll be relying on people sending them back damn sharp. so whoever can donate/send sticks, i'll have one to send out the same day. what i'll do is try ans sort one out this weekend so you know exactle what your getting. for anyone who wants a reference as to what they're like - you're welcome to come to see mine or get references from chris nosky, chilly or andy hoyle who has my original red/burgundy svr i'll try and get some pics sorted today but as far as I can tell, the people who are interested and who i'll give first dibs subject to their confirmation are azzturbo h3rapor dec wires nickvrstorm? g the g ben16v billinjah i think its only fair to say that if someone wants a stcik spplied and wishes to send their stick back afterwards, i'll ask you to pay £100 and i'll send the modded stick back with £50 the same day. this is of course to ensure the exchange stick is sent back sharpish as others are waiting and to ensure the exchange stick does come back. if everyone lets me know if they want one, it'll probably be best to start a new thread - i'm off to start welding and choping now then ;)
  13. :) h8rra quiskshift - says exactly what it does on the tin, changes gear, no dremmel required :) ...or to plagiarise a well-known board member - an OSV mod ;)
  14. PHWOARRHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! - AS OBVIOUSLY AS THAT WAS, IT DIDN'T HALF MAKE ME CHUCKLE :)
  15. forgive me for stating teh obvious but surely there are similar black ones under the bonnet???
  16. seat toledo's as well....... and golfs with slight mods.... come'on guys, catch up :)
  17. wow! thats cheap!!
  18. oooooo.....!!! nasty -i've came off a few times off-road and as coxy says - it gives you a heads-up on bike riding lucky lucky lucky, paul - glad you're okay and lovely bruising btw.......

either that or grab one of the reamining few - i can see me going samco if mine ever fails...
  20. Short answer no, long answer yes. long answer, yes?! - only by one letter, so not that much longer, really......
  21. i'mm off to the motor with me cameraphone now :) edit - ran out of memory - but theres definately some pics of my moonroof - i'll have to search
  22. do a search of my posts - i had one fof the first moonroofs about 6 years ago as far as i'm aware - i've fitted numerous roof's for people - the ging rates £120 supplied and fitted....and i'm not that far from lincoln.. ;)
  23. ......just so people know whats involved, which is quite a lot....... the whole assy has to be removed and the gearstick assembly disassembled - the bloody spring washers are a bloody nightmare and normally take three hands!!! the bracket has to be cut precisely to change the position of the pivot pin. some mods just drill out the pivot pin and fix it in a different position but this method invariably fails. i've never had any failures with this alternative method. the bracket then has to be refabricated/welded to change the position of the pivot pin - the cutting is quite precise as all parts are re-used and excess material removal will goose the whole mod. the amount that this changes by has to be measured very precisely as you have to make corresponding changes to the plastic sleeve for the reverse gate and the gearstick shaft itself too much change will result in too short a throw and gear-crunching, or, the underside of the assembly will catch/fowl/grate if dropped too far down the plastic sleeve has to be cut precisely and the respective lengths above and below the pivot point changed to reflect the alteration of the bracket that has been modified. the gearstick has to be machined, again for the reverse gate, to allow the gearknob to be pushed down to engage reverse, to the dimension corresponding to the bracket modification. ...and then re-assembled. tools required. decent welder - mines £500+ Luxury item - lcd welding mask £200 :) Gas account for argon gas for MIG MIG wire - £30 compressor to drive high torque air cutting tools, again £500+ high rpm air cutter - £40+ very fine cutting blades - £10 a pack - if too much material is removed when cutting, the refabrication is difficult if too much metal has been removed. a hack saw is not an option as some are "blind cuts" and drilling out a starting hole would reduce the integral strength of the gearstick bracket milling tool £?????? (or a mate with a workshop) or a good bench grinder and nice flat stone £50+ good set of files £30 Additional decent hand-to-eye co-ordination, good welding and general engineering skills ability to redesign the linkage system to produce a modification that does not fail and interfaces perfectly with the oem equipment and works better than standard . If thats not worth £50 - ............ i don't bother doing it, to be polite about it.
