H8RRA- a 'mate' snaps your bottom chain-what do you do?
H8RRA replied to H8RRA's topic in Members Gallery
well, as you can see from the dates of the posts, this respray has turned into a right saga and the car has sat for many a week and missed all of the shows that i wanted to go to. went to the bodyshop to remove the corrado from the "oven" today, finally, and start putting back together couldn't find my camera so here's some mobile shot teasers until i find a decent camera and start flatting it etc... it aint been flattened or polished or anything yet but looking promsing. very BLACK :) First sight of the job - all component parts waiting to be put back on ....and in the other bay, the car, waiting to be fettled and put back together door handles - came out really well and look superb on a black 'c' - glad i didn't go flush components, OSV style mods Can't wait to get some decent shots when its more complete -
Seeing as everyone is showing off their car cleaning efforts

could be a corsa.... -
i have just removed mine. remove trim and then the bond is exposed - you need some serrated chees-wire-like wire and some woodn dowel or something similar. you them poke through the bond and have to saw around the bond inch by inch by ataching the wire around or through the dowl on either side and sawing back and forth - very painstaking process - i got my wire from a local windscreen replacement firm on the promise i'd be bringing the car in to get the new glass fitted pain in the butt job
-
...i forgot to mention, i now work for the industrial side of Unipart - Serck Industrial - and I can get stuff at staff discount - eg ngk iridiums 6eix & £6 ea as opposed to £8 i think at sparkplugs? radiators also are well priced but i can't get massive stocks but i do intend to buy a lot of plugs for those interested, on a limited basis. the odd other item here and there i can get if anyone wants a price. i'll see if i can get a price on these as well kev.
-
its obvious cos they look the same - ;) - some have a/c but that just lcicks off the bottom so not an issue. i think up to a similar year as the corrado - 96 - if you're enquiring by phone. as said earlier, you can strip down a passat unit and they're a lot easier to find
-
the cables are bowden cables i think - sorry for being pedantic ;) - when removing, just be careful. its very easy to snap the plastic of the control unit when removing the retaining clips for the bowden cables and slightly awkward attaching the cables and removing the units form the dash. also, careful you don't damage the dash plastic when removing the control as thats pretty femmer as well. Oh... and don't kink the cables as we all know that causes problems ass well cos when they're bent, they don't travell along the conduit and end up fecking the femmer palstic cogs..... you can strip down the passat units for the cogs to repair a corrado unit

...and i thought you enjoyed crawling about the garage and never driving it... never mind, march ain't far away, again. 8)

that sanders a body file and its a right rough bastard - as in the grade of file - aggressive as fcuk - and did you see that tabloid report about fcuk having falling sales this year that they blame on an ad containing some hunnies wrestling and then kissing each other pasionately at the end??!! doesn't make sense to me like???
-
i do like the blue ones - i've had 3 and sold the best one with immaculate grey heated leather - i offered it to the wife but she wouldn't have it and i do regret that. i just think the black one has more presence/aggresive stance, call it what you will - but possibly not as pretty :? WHY DID I STRIP IT TO PAINT!!!!!!!!!! :? as far as the respray goes, it best be a full one cos this is what it looks like at the mo.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
.....i'm getting so peeeved that mine is still waiting to be painted - i need to come down and blow your car away kev, before you turbo it to 600 bhp and blast me into next week, as you so eloquently put it !!!!! ;) we really need to get all of these motors on the road before the weather becomes too bad and have a communal blast. I've learnt my lesson, mind - let a family member paint your car and you end up waiting bloody months to get it finished :(
-
all is good on the modifying front. theres a few well modified vr cars around now as the vr gets older. still gets good results over and above many newer cars. look forward to seeing a turbo'd vr
-
bit of a rant from you there mind kev :? i can stick up for obd1, can't i? i like your car as well but i haven't had any problems with obd1 and achieved good results - everyones entitled to an opinion. my alternative opinion would be if an ecu cx was planned, an aftermarket ecu is a good alternative to obd2 or 1 - i'm as qualified as anyone, including you, to have an opinion - and i'm equally as qualified to say that obd1 produces fine results - as you are to say that obd2 does a good job. pay your money, take your pick - its all about opinions and if everyone took the same route, there'd be no variety. good luck with your turbo - hope you find a setup you are happy with, as i am. i stand by what i've done for funds invested and if you want to draw comparisons, which i don't, i think i've got a good return. i'll check out the megasquirt as well - as you say, i haven't tried the P8PRO and my knowledge is only based on advice and recommendations of vince who i presume knows what he's talking about. i'd have to ask what made you decide to go obd2 as opposed to megasquirt, mind? wish i had the disposable income that you enjoy - i still think you're mad but it must be fun - and then i'd happily report back to you on whatever aftermarket ecu i tried.
-
what have i missed? not questioning you kev but mine runs fine at 330bhp on obd1 and i'm not aware of any obd 2 running any better or more powerful - i know my engine isn't std but thats nothing to do with the ecu and how it runs.... additionally noskys is the most reliable, longest running and possibly most thrashed charged vr on obd 1 with a dizzy and close to 200,000 miles.... we like our obd1 and i don't see the justification for obd2 unless you can persuade otherwise? if ecu's are to be converted, i'd be recommending a dta p8pro or the like. unless shown otherwise, i still don't see the point or expense of obd2 conversion
-
thats just what i needed to see as i have a black 'c' and have some angeleyes on the way - is it easy to black them out????
-
...are you suggesting this activates auto down/up? ...or that we're lazy gits and should just hold the button down to open/shut windows......
-
wheres the control for the windows cos mines the worst of the lot and no auto up or dwon!!!! and its a 95!!!!
-
.....?????? VInce must've beenhaving a jolly jape when he said this to me then..... When at Stealth getting mine mapped, the conversation went along the lines of....... me - "what'dyou reckon, vince - DTA, rebore, out to 3.3 ish???" Vince - " just stick a 24v in and take it out to 4 litre..."
-
complete replacement not for the mech - thats geting the passat moonroof so sourcing, removing and replacing in another car - icewhitesocks roof was replaced with a std emch if you want an opinion - he seemed like a happy chappy when he left
-
use some washers to drop it slightly where necessary - wind noise is often more noticeable when the inner cover is back but when this is forward - as with a std roof - i've never noticed any different - i've fitted moonroofs from 4 differen models and been happy with all of them - none are at all bad and any wind noise is due to what i've said above
-
i'm surprised this thread aint been deleted, what with talk of phat exposing his rim and how many he's been through. i'm a fine one to talk with 5 sets lyiing around at the mo, mind................

Will I sell my Rado?? 24v V6 - PVW Cover Car Jan 06
H8RRA replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in General Car Chat
wow, jay - i think a few people are shellshocked - are you going to give an indication of sale price as it seems to have progressed very quickly so i presume it must have been a goooooood offer???? -
who's the biggest wheel whore here? - osv or wires?? Seems every other week, a new set of wheels appear for one of you 2 !!!!
-
strangely enough, i now work for a firm that specialise in heat exchangers, ic's etc as well as radiators and i can basically get anything made refurbed, replaced custom fit manufacture etc..... i would have to charge it out at a labour rate plus carriage unfortunately - not sure how the land lies with govvy jobs yet but we use ultrasonics, acid baths etc - i realise this isn't much help for a diy job tho... ;)

..........its the sunny weather - wishing i had a rear wheel drive convertible hairdressers car to play in the sun with 8) getting a bit sick that i haven't been able to get it sprayed and i ain't been anywhere with it this year........ buy my 4wd system then and go 4 wheel drifting ;) I suspose I am lucky in that I get to drive an mx-5 in the sunny weather. Still wouldnt sell my corrado for it though (unless I was allowed to supercharge it!) ...that was one of my thoughts, strangely enough i'll have to chat to you about 4wd - struggling to find the time lately but do like the idea as mentioned before.... -
so whats the procedure to do this? do you have to make a mould? I fancy a play.....and where do you get the raw materials???????
