Can you hear it when idling in the bay?
-
thanks a lot guys - only got to look into this again on saturday. the copper arm on the heater control seemed to be the problem - not contacting. Although I had tried another set of controls which didn't fix the issue earlier - guessing something was nonfunctional before - but since replacing both resistor pack and fan, guess the issue with the controls showed up. bit confusing really, but glad its sorted... :)

john are you considering 24v?
-
i have the number - will get tomorrow as its not currently in the house. vw are still selling the bases though (that come with the seal and aerial). quite expensive at around 70+

thanks a lot for the replies - seems fixed now. its a case of 'i dont know why or how, but it works'! it must be some quirk with the scorpion system - i couldnt see any pattern in what was happening yesterday - however today though it just seemed to work fine after it was left for a while. So what A1 VR6 suggested is likely bang on what I had. It was like a series of clicks i heard as soon as the ignition was turned to start the car. Just hope I don't reply to this thread tomorrow with more problems... And to top it off - i got the stuck bonnet open by literally just pulling on the S shaped bracket on the end of the cord with a pair of pliers = bonnet open. :)

hi - did you ever get to the bottom of the problem?
-
dont tell me that! any other ideas of things to try?
-
yep the engine isnt even getting to crank over. i immediately thought the immobiliser was preventing it. but no idea what to do next

Checked the voltage on the battery and it's perfect, so suggests something else isn't right..?

I had my battery out for a few days due to charging it - on fitting it back in fully charged - my VR can refuse to start. First off, as soon as i had connected the terminals again and closed the bonnet, the alarm (scorpion 500/0) set off, so disabled it using the fob. Got in and tried to fire the car up - could hear the fuel pump priming fine, 12v showing in the voltage gauge, usual lights in the instrument cluster - and as soon as i turned the key again to fire - I heard a few abrupt clicks (cant be sure of where theyre coming from), the car didnt reach sparking up - and then everything went dead - no more lights/readings from the instrument cluster, no power to the voltage gauge etc - i also couldnt get anything from re-turning the key in the ignition, or from trying to enable the alarm again. The only thing I seemingly could do was to disconnect the battery and reconnect. On one attempt engaging the central locking seemed to allow me to set the alarm again. I have changed both the ECU and fuel pump relay while the battery was out - I am tempted to revert back to the old relays. Could they be anythign to do with it? What can I test? Can anyone help me out by telling me what is actually going on? Or what issues the car has? And on my last attempt, the bonnet cable snapped - i did ask myself a few questions after that! Any help appreciated...

i dont think they use standalones on all installs. the price range i got was with using oe management. which is what you want really... it is a tough call - for 1k extra you could have a 24v/r32 fitted rather than a rebuilt 12v - comes down to whether you want the original engine or not.
-
stealth will fit one for within 2.5k though - including a mk5 afaik. you still have to source one though...

that alongside kw's and a few changes on the brakes is exactly what i'm doing :) oh and getting the RS' ready for summertime :)

Track tyres worth it on a 15" wheel or should i just go 17"?
_leon_ replied to dukest's topic in Drivetrain
The R32 sump and pump combo solves that issue quite nicely. All OE parts, so reliable, well made and spares readily available. The other benefit is greatly increased ground clearance. Well above subframe level. Its meant to be pretty flimsy though isn't it? In what way? Happy with mine, simple to fit. Not sure about oil starvation being an old wives tale. Joe killed his engine through starvation. It's relatively simple to protect against this and not too expensive... -

I'm after some orange, red and blue flashing LEDs that have wide viewing angle and are at least 2000mcd. I can get the blue and red ones from Maplins, superbrightleds.com and ultraleds.co.uk. But the orange LEDs are very hard to find - in flashing form (which for an alarm I think is better). Does anyone know of some suppliers other than the 3 i've mentioned? Thanks a lot

Dave no worries I will later for you - i have one at home

this nanny state drives me insane at times. looking forward to a less restrictive lifestyle elsewhere in a few years! -
Amyone got anything better/nicer than std terminals/cables?
-
did you ever find out more about wiseco pistons while considering them?
-
Anyone know where you can get nice terminals/cables such as the ones pictured below (voltage reading not necessary)? In need of some new ones. Cheers battery.jpg[/attachment:nb3p2nlt]
