If the weather is cold or the windows are covered in ice the motors will struggle a bit, if the motor is under heavy load it pulls more current, some of the old fuses do just blow due to age as they heat up and cool down every time they are taken close to maximum load and this eventually weakens the fuse until it blows, they also sometimes corrode a little which also weakens them.

the uprated looms don't connect to the rear of the bulb, they connect to the 4 pin connector on the back of the headlight unit, the wiring inside the headlights is ok and doesnt require upgrading. The top one looks like a very well made kit, and should do the job nicely, it certainly looks better than most of the kits you can buy in the uk. It looks like the blue connector is just for connecting between the US type headlight plugs and this loom, to provide the signals for the relay box, but all you would need to do is cut that off and crimp some standard male blade connectors on, and plug them into the old headlight plugs. I think the connectors are made by TYCO but i struggled to find them in any of the catalogues we have, it may be an obsolete part, or only available if ordered in large numbers.

are there any part numbers on the arms? they should not need modifying in any way, just fit and forget.

people have used decent quality silicone without any problems, or you could use the loctite adhesive sealant you can get in halfords.

Ride height and wheels are a massive improvement, makes it look much more sleek, and less like a Peugeot.

Hacksaw the damaged backing in a few places and then remove the bits from the lens, and break the knackered lens from the good backing bit by bit. I would use tigerseal (can get it from rollins in wrexham) to bond the lens back on as its designed for sticking windscreens back in so it bonds very well to glass and sets in about 20 minutes and you can get it in grey, white or black. It depends what type of seam sealer it is though as some are a non setting mastic type which wont work, some go brittle when they get hot and others are a polyurethane adhesive similar to tigerseal.

The lupo arms and blades should fit perfectly and certainly not bottom out on the arms like the original ones, mine have been on for two years and they still work perfectly, are you sure the blades have not been crushed or bent when they where in stock, as one of the ones they gave me had a wrinkle in the blade so I took it back and got another one.

mismatched rear calipers - asking for trouble?
coolrado replied to boost monkey's topic in Drivetrain
from that photo the hand brake mechs look different, the girling is pivoted on the side and the other pivots on the back, also the brake hose comes in at a different angle so you may need different hoses for them. I'm always a bit iffy about mismatched brakes or suspension components even if they are the same spec, have you not got any scrappies local to you, as you can get the mk4 style calipers from a ford focus and a couple of other cars. -
just measure from a few fixed reference points to the bolt holes before you remove the brackets, then work your monkey magic on them and re-fit them, it will be just as accurate as any other way, unless you think the old brackets are not straight for some reason?

the damage looks identical to a mk3 golf that I saw hit a pedestrian in liverpool a few years ago, the driver was'nt speeding (about 25mph according to the police) as he had just pulled away from traffic lights and the pedestrian ran straight out in front of him, apart from a small cut on his head and a few bruises he was actually ok and was taken away by the police (turned out he was a wanted car thief). It was surprising how much damage it caused though. Seems very fishy that he is selling it on his brothers behalf, maybe his brother is jail for running someone over  Who is going to be the first to ask him some questions :norty:

Yeah but weighing in at 4.2Kg that's roughly 798hp/per ton   and at 125 l/s she is a bit greedy

Most platinum or other tipped plugs have a side electrode that actually points at the side of the centre electrode, so they can't really be gapped, but even normal ones with a side electrode that curves over the top of the centre electrode should be correctly gapped from the factory, they should also have a small cardboard tube over the threaded section that will protect the electrodes while in transit, if the cardboard tube is damaged take the plugs back to where you bought them.

If the other person has accepted responsibility it doesnt matter if it's uneconomical to repair as you should be able to demand that they pay for it to be repaired anyway. When mine was rear ended i spoke to my insurance company and they told me that i would have to pay my excess, and they would refund it once they had recovered the costs from the other persons insurance, as i didn't have £500 quid lying around at the time, they told me to contact the other persons insurance company and claim through them which i did, it was easier than dealing with my insurance company.

If the mirrors have ever been broken and replaced with ones from halfords they wont have the heater elements on the back, but if they are original and the contacts have corroded on the back of them they can be fixed with a dab of superglue and some electrocure electrical contact paint.

If it's slipping on the crank pulley it would usually indicate that something else is causing too much drag on the belt, are you sure the bearings in the tensioner pulley are ok and have not started to sieze? the bearings may feel fine when they are cold but could start to lock up when they are hot. I know you said the rest of the stuff is new but have you checked each item individually to make they are not stiff to turn.

Have people really got nothing better to do than phone up and complain about this sort of thing :cuckoo: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20081103/te ... 8abb3.html New series definatley looks like a goodun from the previews, and clarksons lorry did look cool, would have looked even better with a fuel tanker on the back, MAD MAX style. -
In Kent - this Remanufactured components supplier
coolrado replied to craigowl's topic in Suppliers Forum
a lot of the remanufacturers sell through other parts suppliers so people may not even know they are getting a remanufactured part, I know one of the local suppliers sell remanufactured cv joints, they have been drilled out slightly larger and had bigger bearings fitted then heat treated, just as good as the original part really. They offer a two year warranty on most of the stuff so i can't see a problem with it. -
fitting a touch screen car p.c into a corrado thread
coolrado replied to C488ADO's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Unfortunately I dont have any pics of the progress as I didn't have a digi camera at the time, but if you have a search around for dash installs, climatronic installs ect on here you should find a few threads that might help. -

Unfortunately not  I had to build an alluminium frame to support it, and carve bits of the surround to make it all fit. -

An I/O module has inputs and outputs that you can use to control external devices like motors ect...this is quite complicated to do as you would need to design an interface on the pc to mimic the heater contols and working out what sort of signals you would need for the air flap servo motors wouldn't be easy. Climatronic is the intelligent air conditioning system from later golf's, passat's, Skoda's, Seat's ect. but you can fit it without the air conditioning system so it just controls heat, air direction and fan speed, but this is a big improvement over the standard system anyway, as it gives you thermostatic temperature control, fully variable fan speed (and a much more powerful fan), recirculation, and allows you to select any combination of air direction, it's also more reliable. here are a couple of climatronic install's My one with the SEAT control panel 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfdash.JPG[/attachment:o5bdzd5i] I think this is from an earlier passat or golf Climatronic%20Control.JPG[/attachment:o5bdzd5i]
