  1. Those temps sound fine would not get worried about those levels. Just fill it up with some coolant and replace the temp switches. What does the coolant taste like? Looks like it would go well with some vodka :) Seriously though its not a good idea to go opening the overflow after driving the car esp in the dark after a few drinks.
  2. What kind of money would be the avg 16G60 conversion be? (stage 2 or 3 charger) Not talking 4 motion or anything.
  3. You don’t have to get a new set EBAY
  4. You don’t have to get a new set EBAY
  5. Throttle bodies could be an option but you’d need to be fitting them yourself to get under the £800 mark.
  6. I remember him having a VR mrk 3, dont remember ever hearing he had a Corrado. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him with one he could easily afford a fleet the money hes on. Im just waiting to see one in some Quentin tarantino movie its sure to be on his list Id give it another couple of yrs but id nearly bet on an SLC showing up in some film on the big screen. Im surprised one hasn’t been in a music video or top gear retro classics show.
  7. Check your sensors on the right side of the head Phil, these things can often break when taking the head off and can cause various problems if they are not replaced.
  8. As far as I know its the heater hose is different (longer) and the overflow tank to head is the other one but I used a short braded line for this. If you get a group together the full set would be ideal but if you want them ASAP for the summer etc then id go for the 16V mrk 2 set there’s no major pipes left out that cant be replaced with braded ones.

    Knocking KR

Check the front engine mount also as they have been known to get loose on the 16Vs.
  10. There is only 1 or 2 pipes different from the mrk 2 golf. All the man pipes are the same on the 16V corrado and any other small pipes needed could be easily made up. I got the couple braded lines for the pipes I was missing from the 16V samco kit.
  11. You can leave the cold start unplugged to test if it is the source of your problem but it may be a couple of things (ISV) contributing to the problem. Best to take both ISV and cold start valve off and clean them. As Dave said you can pick up a used cold start valve from various Vws.
  12. No the car will continue to cut out when driven. Best to soak your ISV in petrol for a few hours that may do the trick. If not a new ISV can be 70-80 quid to replace as is the cold start valve.
  13. Is this a VR? Best to get the part number off the broken switch to be sure you replace it with the correct one.
  14. I agree a supercharger would be the ideal power source and I may at some stage take a serious look at fitting one, it would be however an expensive exercise relative to fitting throttle bodies and it this stage I am interested as to what can be gained from fitting them.
  15. What would be the typical power gain running throttle bodies on a standard 1.8 Kr engine? Im thinking Bhp might increase but is that any good without a torque increase? Ive been there already with the 50Mm and just noticed the engine got respy like a vtec noticed the loss in low end torque and the nice low pitch from the engine on my 1.8. Ive since put back the 42 mil for this reason.
  16. Ill get you the model number on the switch/sender if you'd like, I remember writing it down somewhere. As far as I know its not that critical hasn't been on my car for months and I don't have any starting problems. To Quote rob AKA carpy25 who helped me find the location of this a while back. "The fan switch bolts on the top left hand head to inlet manifold bolt looking from the front of the car it under the plastic air pipe from the inlet pipe to the isv valve the tip of the switch should just touch the head wire should be hanging about there some where to check if it's the right wire with the keys out if you earth it the fan will come on "
  17. You should have a switch that looks something like this And it bolts on or near to the left hand side on the rocker cover. (pics posted by carpy25 ) I doubt this is causing your starting problems though as it sounds more like ignition/starter problems. How old is the battery?

    16V Belts

I don’t think I replaced the Timing belt tensioner on my valver never knew they could seize up. Do valvers have cam belts? Can you replace the studs in the tensioners? Can they (tensioner & chain) be fitted without disrupting the timing?
  19. Your brown wire connects to a rad overrun switch which is connected to the left side your rocker cover.
  20. Yeah I do notice the rado gets much more attention from chavs wanting to have a go. I never got any such reaction on the road when I had the mrk iv or even the new A3. That said I never got notes on my windscreen in the golf or A3 from people wanting to buy the car !
  21. A cracked exhaust manifold could also contribute to this it might be worth replacing if all else fails.

    16v cam timing

Had this exact problem with my 16V, was a close call managed to loosen the belt as it had become very tight, a bit too close for comfort !
  23. GSF are a motor factor http://www.gsfcarparts.com/ Bosch manufacture VW car parts among many other things. http://www.bosch.co.uk
  24. Im not sure where exactly where it is on the 2.0 16V but if you look on the right side of the head you will see all the switches/sensors. Its No 2 in this photo of a 1.8 16V (behind the black wire) Im nearly sure the late 16Vs were a bit different tho. Its a single pin sender with a red and green wire, you can see the black plug broken off here in this pic. Be sure and check before replacing any of these senders cus I know the ECU is different on the late 94 16Vs.
  25. Anyone know the model nos of these pipes A and B? Im having a messy leak out of them onto the flange :) no joking intended, I presume its the leaky pipes that's causing this problem? Would pressure build up water/oil be another cause?? Its a 16V 1.8 engine
