  1. Any ideas what causes this? It's a very obvious creak every time the clutch is depressed. I've replaced the clutch as the release seemed very sharp but it's still the same although the pedal is lighter. When changing gear especially in lower gears, no matter how slowly I release the clutch pedal it's as if it just snatches. Is the creaking and the snatchiness to do with the hydraulic clutch system?
  2. Hi all, been really busy with work so haven't been on here much. I've just washed and waxed the car and taken some new pics now it has lowered suspension and BBS wheels. The work I've had done so far includes:- New timing chains and tensioners (although virtually no visible wear at 90K so I felt it was a bit of a waste!), new clutch, tappets, KW variant 1 suspension, wishbones, top mounts and all other suspension rubber bits (rear axle bushes had already been done), Magnex exhaust system, oil, filter, spark plugs and leads, rear engine mount. All this work was done at APS in Brackley. These guys used to work at AMD in Bicester and set up this business. They are brilliant and really care for your car. I was very impressed and they're much more reasonable than AMD. Nathan knows all there is to know about VR's so it's nice to give a new business some work. I also took the car to Clean Image in Chelmsford to have the leather on the front seats re-coloured. As you can see form the pics, they look like new. I then fitted BBSW RX 16" wheels and Good Year Eagle tyres, supplied by Darren from G-Werks. They look great and keep the 'original' look of the car. Some mats from Autostyle in beige with blue piping finish off the interior and a respray of the bonnet and tailgate to remove a small rust bubble brought the exterior up to near immaculate condition. I'm really chuffed with the car and love the rarity of the cream interior. In fact, I've not seen any standard cream interiors, only recaro ones in Aqua Blue cars so I'm hoping it stays that way! By the way, I can also thoroughly recommend the KW suspension - it rides really well and is better than the favoured Koni / H&R setup in my opinion. The only things I need now are an uprated headlight loom, maybe a new stereo and a new battery as this one goes flat if left for more than a week. The only fault to date has been the MAF but I got a second hand one and it's fine now. (Touchwood!)
  3. If you need a new MAF pm me and I'll run you through the saga I've just had and could save you a few bob....
  4. Mine was really noisy too and would sometimes stop but start again if I tapped it so I got a new one
  5. Great news, it was the MAF and I got a second hand one for £60 although Storm VR6 bought the one from GSF for £65 exchange and that works too (even though GSF etc swear blind it won't work - the only difference being the 'A' on the end of the part number...
  6. Help! Kev or anyone else, do you know if the 'A' makes that much difference?
  7. Just checked with VW - The 021 906 462A is available for £75 plus VAT exchange and was fitted to Golf VR6 93-98, Vento 97-98, Transporter 96-04 and Sharan 96-00. Does anyone know if the A version will fit the Corrado cos there's a price difference of about £230!!!!
  8. GSF say they don't list one for the Corrado and the part number I gave them they said had 5 pins but mine has 4?
  9. Hi all, I need a MAF part number 021 906 462 for a 95 VR6. I've read all the threads on here about buying one for a different car but I don't think mine is the same. It has a 4 pin connector. The Bosch part number is 028 021 7504. I've been quoted £213.33 plus VAT by a local Bosch agent and he said there are none in the country! I've sourced a second hand one but would really prefer new....
  10. I've just had the oil changed to Quantum Synta Silver 10w/40 I think? What effect would the oil have?
  11. Hi all, My car has developed a really bad misfire when cold which virtually disappears when warm. It starts fine, idles fine but will die if you prod the throttle. It'll rev if gentle throttle is applied and is ok past 2000 rpm. I have to slip the clutch to get it to go when cold. The garage have replaced the blue temp sensor, leads, plugs and coilpack to no avail. The ECU has been swapped with another car, again no change. Having read up on here I'm thinking MAF meter - could these symptoms be caused by a faulty MAF or would that not make sense given that it gets better when warm? What about the Lambda sensor? I noticed it revved fine from cold whilst on the 'choke' i.e. for the first few seconds and then went bad. I'd say it was throwing too much fuel in as it smelt rich when this was happening....
  12. Great, about time someone made some OE looking darkened lenses. Look forward to ordering some!
  13. Well I'll deffo be in touch next time I need any paintwork....
  14. Where are they and what's their number? I've just paid £600 for bonnet and tailgate to be done!!!!!
  15. I bought one from GPC at Inters and the other side from the dealers. The GPC one doesn't fit properly...the thin lip that ends up going flaky is to narrow and wouldn't sit over the gap so I just had to push it in most of the way along. Maybe it's just a bad one as i think they're original VAG?
  16. Pretty much Sony but various upgrades were available. Mine is a 95N and has a Sony XR-6659RDS fitted.
  17. Do a search on here but basically the contacts oxidise over in the switch - take it apart and clean them and it should work again...
  18. Oredered KW Version 1 today from Darren - will report when they're fitted. What else should I replace while doing it apart from obvious top mounts?
  19. I doubt if the garage would have done that - they just fit them and probably wouldn't know. I'm still in touch with the guy that bought it so I'll let him know! I wonder why no-one buys KW's, are they just badly marketed for Rado's?
  20. Thanks Kev, I'm glad u say much better than the Koni/H&R setup because that was a bit hard for me and I had the shocks on the softest setting. The KW's are quite a bit cheaper than H&R's. Anyone got KW's?
  21. Yes that's who I'm getting them off, along with some BBS wheels and possibly a Magnex or Supersprint exhaust. My car is costing me a fortune at the mo but it'll be worth it in the end....
  22. I got these bits last week to add to this list inc Vat all for 95 VR6:- W535 881 378 B Foam bolster insert for drivers seat £29.42 W535 823 361 B Bonnet stay rod £27.67 W251 965 561 B Aux water pump £92.28 W357 837 034 Door striker £2.70 W535 881 375 Foam for driver seat base £53.82. I returned this as it looked far worse than the one in the car!
  23. Hi, Looked on here for info on KW coilovers but can't find anything. I'm on the brink of ordering either H&R or KW type 1 which is fixed damping but adjustable ride height. I'm looking for the softest ride as near to original as possible and only really want coilies to lower the car. I had T/A Konis with H&R springs before but they weren't quite low enough and mine rattled on the rears! Any advice welcome and what about FK ones, are they as good as KW?
  24. I just bought some from http://www.autostyle.co.uk. They are expensive but you can have several colours with logos and different binding colours and they are perfectly tailored. Mine cost over £100 though so not cheap!!
