  1. I'm never going to sell mine. When it comes to the point that I need a car to suit a family or whatever, I plan on having enough money to keep it as a fun car for shows etc. I will keep it as my daily until then, probably with an engine conversion.
  2. I've looked into using bike ITBs a bit, There's quite a bit of info about: clubgti forums - search for posts by Martyn_16v and vwvortex has a forum dedicated to ITBs All i've really picked up is that the problem with bike bodies is that the butterfly sits at an angle when closed, so a tiny change in throttle position has a much greater effect on airflow initially. This means it renders speed/density managment (MAP sensing) pretty useless, you need to manage fuel based on throttle position and load. As far as I'm aware, it's only super blackbird and MV Agusta TBs that sit almost perpendicular to the inlet wall. EDIT - just realised you're talking about carbs, go for ITBs better fuel consumption, mappable etc.etc.
  3. As you all know by now - my C is a complete pile of sh!t and is teetering on the edge of getting broken for spares. Any ideas why I can put it in reverse at the gearbox end by hand but using the gearstick inside the car I can't?
  4. two CoupeHaus dubs on the cover in 9 months - nice work guys! 8)
  5. Something funky's going on with my leccies too so will try this fuse pulling lark - are we talking just multimeter sets to amps put across the battery?
  6. Got it to fire! :):) It ran but only with the dizzy all the way back round toward the bulkhead and with the throttle at least half way - Even then it was running rough as feck. Any ideas? After a few goes I took the dizzy cap off to see if it was running ok and now it won't fire - just a lot of starter clickety click. Absolutely ANY advice on things to check/steps to take would be greatly appreciated, this car is doing my nut in!!
  7. it's not hard to make a forum on one of those free "have a subdomain" hosts, I think it goes something like: sign up > click "install forum" Whoevers it is; it's lame, L-A-M-E.
  8. wonder if they came up with the categories all on their own?
  9. FFS. It looks like a half dead insect flailing around
  10. nope, definitely true mate - I was there, saw the whole thing
  11. That cruise control thing was a true story. It was a guy in America, bought an RV and sued the company coz it (obviously) crashed when he put it in cruise and went in the back, as the manual hadn't said that you couldn't. He won
  12. I agree - I've been cursed with driving a 1.6 16v Escort while my 2l Corrado is off the road and it's hell. Seats are crap, no torque, no power, drinks fuel, looks rubbish I haven't done as many miles as I would like in my Corrado (no laughing in the back!) but they've all been enjoyable. The main thing I'd say is that uprated suspension makes a hell of a difference to the handling so maybe budget for the car and bushes/suspension if you're saving up
  13. nice one Zippy, mine didn't fly around or anything, just sat there and span. Looks like I need to try a new starter. Anyone fancy lending me one for five mins? It's only two bolts :) :)
  14. I dunno if anyone can help but how do you know when a starter's buggered? It's spinning fine when off the car.
  15. okay, tried hotwiring the starter and still no luck, just a lot of clicking. so i took it off and the attached pic is of inside the g/box. Funny thing was, when I hooked the starter up on the bench, it spun fine - spindle pops out and it spins pretty fast. Does that mean it ain't foobar'd?
  16. ok, just tried it with a different battery and still the same - when I tried it with jumpleads (and no battery) before switching the excort battery in, the leads got REALLY hot, mean anything? Saw this thread on e38 that makes me think I could do with trying a different starter - anyone round my way?
  17. Thanks guys, all good advice, much appreciated. Gaz - I think there's another earth that needs checking after you mentioned that it goes to chassis then g/b - will check. That's interesting that dodgy solenoid can give the same symptoms as flat batt, would standing for a while cause this sort of thing? ANT - brakes are fine now, took the caliper off and cleaned the handbrake arm after prizing it out by about an inch.
  18. not really sure mate, I've got voltage across the jumpleads (- on gearbox, + on battery connection, not terminal) and I've got voltage from starter + to gearbox at ign II, it's just when it actually cranks it acts like there's nothing there - anything else I can check to eliminate poor earthing from the equation? EDIT - it's been standing for the best part of a year
  19. The only other thing I can think of is that something's too tight? As I said, when timing up the engine moves no worries and when craking it's turning but very laboured and slowly. Anyone had anything similar?
  20. lol bump for ideas from you lot bored at work
  21. will try that Coxy mate. yeah engine is turning slowly - nothing siezed as i could turn it by hand no worries whilst doing the belt. Before cranking, the starter's got 14v across it but this drops to 0 quickly during cranking. Could dodgy earths be causing this?
  22. "is that your golf?" and a mate of mine insists on calling it a corraldo - even though I correct him EVERY TIME!!! seriously, where's the L mate?
  23. ah i see Dave, spose i just discxounted it coz the cars cranking - bump for all the people back from e38 - can anyone help? In a nutshell. Car all back together all eletrics work but even when hooked up to a running car, the C cranks like it's got a flat battery - any tips on what to be checking much appreciated.
