Thanks for all this guys. So should I really be looking at a garage rebuilding the head then? I'm trying to convince myself that I can't stretch to a CNC head , so we'll keep that out of the picture for now - I was planning to do it myself, I assumed the only specialist tool was a valve spring compressor
-
Spot on, thanks Henny - what sorta dosh we looking at for all the parts then? And which ones can I get away with from GPC or GSF? Cheers
-
definately removing the head, depending on what you guys suggest (pistons, crank bearings) I might pull the lot out. The aim of the excercise is to make it good for anoth 135k :) The only reason I ask is that my judgement on whether something is worth replacing is poor lol. So if I just have a shopping list and do it all at once it'll be easier for me.

Hey Guys, I;m going to rebuild my 2.0 9A engine over the xmas holidays, it's got 135k on it. Any chance some one could post up the parts I should replace? I'm going to try to stick to some kind of realistic budget :) Cheers,

Hell yeah! Keep the old girl above 4k RPM and she's sweet as a nut :compress:

Good fix, I often wondered why car makers went through that stage of putting sunroof buttons up there, 3 series beemers had it 'n all.

Check your water level. If it's full then you have leak in the scuttle panel if not, your heater matrix is leaking

Ah yeah I;ve been reading a few things about ABS plastic fabrication, looks very factory - liking what I've seen so far and it's tidier (although smellier) than fiberglass.
-
Hmm, I'm not looking forward to getting the carrier bolts off though
-
Any issues with ABS if you convert to mk4 calipers?
-
mine seized after a week off the road.

my personal fave

Not much fun if you crash into another Smart though . lol very astute!
-
there isn;t any is what Henny is saying, only OBD is ABS faults
-
lol! I'm sure we could agree on something

Some of you lot have done some seriously awesome interiors and speaker box installs. What do you use for custom pods? I am modding my dash board but don't really know the best material for the job, P## body filler was popular in my Lax Power days but surely there are some lighter/more professional materials to use nowadays?

depends if the cat is still on there

lol - stinker

Last week in my job so not really up to much apart from shouting at agencies  HTH

This kind of situation always has two sides - you didnt crash so technically you were driving at a safe enough speed although it's likely a slower speed and the lack of said idiots would have lessened the pant-wetting effect . I bet ur gladd you have rado and not a rover! I had a blazing row with a friend once when I crashed into the back of a van on my motorbike. Some fool, unbeknownst to me had pulled out in front of the van forcing it to brake fiercely and i smashed into the back of it. As much as I blamed the guy who pulled out on the van, my mate would always say it was my fault as I clearly wasn't a safe enough distance behind the van and i was like: "but if the tool hadn't pulled out....." and he was like; "if you'd been a safe distance...." annoyingly, his arguement is infallible, if i'd been riding to the conditions I wouldn't have crashed - simple as.

cool - was just thinking about it from memory - thanks guys :)

If I put a KR head on my 9A, what do I do with the knock sensors? Cheers

LOL! I really don't understand how people have the nerve to shake their head when we're forced to do this sort of thing. I always undertake and it bothers me that a copper would pull me over for that before the moron forcing the queue in the outside lane!!! Oh wait, am I right in thinking a learner car isn't even allowed on the motorway, rather than actually learning how to drive on it? Well f**k me where's the logic in that? They bring in all this crap like pressing on potenntial hazards on a frikkin computer game rather than teaching people how to drive a car! How about mandatory motorway training for all every two years! At the end of the day - if they made it more difficult to get/keep a license, they wouldn;t have to put petrol/tax/tolls up to keep cars of the road.
