You can get fault codes on a 16v - but RW1 has said that vag com only works at the lower baud rate settings

Added bonus is that they match the little badge on the standard grills 8)

they certainly give enthusiasts a bad name. That's my biggest problem with them I think, the rep that rubbs off on normal people who are into cars

just put my order in for a blue one 8) *pinch of salt added* -
ahh, never heard that about the alfa, top info, thanks I think I'm erring toward the merc, just trying to find out the difference between the trim levels (esprit, classic etc). Plus i think i read somewhere that the auto box can be used like a manual in that it has 5 drive gears ??? dunno if thats true though??

Right, finally caught up with this thread! What a car! An absolute credit to you Jay - and a real homage to the original designers of the car. I love the fact that winners of best of show in the VW community always look like the car they're based on instead of crazy plastic crap stuck all over them -
Yeah, thats the main reason its in the running, just coz it looks so damn fine 8) and the selespeed would be posy, but I read that it can be a bit of hassle in town though hmm didn't think of that - keep it in the family. This is another thing, whatever I choose will get a FSH so ideally I dont want to be throwing money on niggly build issues. TBH I think I'm erring toward the merc but the Passat comment has also made me think Bora. So now which is it? Merc C cleass Alfa 156 Passat/Bora Tdi

is that B & Q stuff the bitumen backed repair stuff? If so you can get it cheaper from a decent roofing merchant - we used to use it all the time on the rooves in Keynsham and Bath (fecking council tennants nicked the lead every time we replaced it lol). Mind you, there is even cheaper stuff that isn't self adhesive, jus need a little blowtorch to heat it up and on it goes!

lol - i though "donny town centre" was your name for a chav - quality

lol definately not the same, he raced me and i was in a 52 plate 1200 corsa, and won! lol To be fair he must just be 17 and from what I saw the interior was finished well When I was 17 i was driving an orange mark 1 astra 1200S with white 15" manta alloys

Hey all. I'm thinking about taking the C off the road for some conversion work so was going to get a car more suited to the epic motorway mileage i'm doing ATM. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the following 2: Mercedes C class Alfa 156 on w/x reg. Problem is, i dont know the best engine/box combinations. Ideally i'd like an auto with cruise but i dunno which will be the best on fuel/most comfortable with so many engine types on the merc. As for trim levels, its all greek to me (although i like the black carbon merc interior) Can anyone grace me with a couple of specific models to look for that are the best combination of refinement and driver involvement? eg C220 sport auto etc.etc.?

That would be cuz most of us in england drive on the left 8) yeah LHD makes a hell of a difference, look at ferrari prices

Now the hallway, that's a different matter......

 nutter! that was the first thing i took off lol

Lol this should come as a warning label on the box! I also heard that you can do it without taking the dash out, some Scotsman with freakishly flexible wrists IIRC  I did it by removing the seats and swinging the dash round to the N/S EDIT - - I think taking it all out is a good excusee to stop all those bl00dy squeaks.

Hi mate, there is another recent thread on this if you have a search, it's really not too bad a job, I'm pretty inexperienced and had no hiccups. PM me if you have any questions.

they're filled with sodium, I think the main issue is with disposal. You have to cut them in half and then dump them in a bucket of water (and stand back :))

...in a van
