you know far too much!! :) but where would we be without you! :salute:

right.... I went back to the tyre place and went through some stuff. they had the car up and the drivers side front wishbone, rear bush seemed to have more play in it than the passenger side. so, when applying some power, the wishbone would pull into the car and cause the car to pull to the right (what was happening). the bushes were polyurethane so i had to have both wishbones changed so the bushes were the same. i had to have non gen items fitted as the tyre place would not fit anything i supplied. ive driven the car a little bit and it seems better. it still feels a little twitchy on the back roads. I dont drive the car during the week (have van) so it must just be down to me forgetting how the car feels from week to week. will keep and eye on the situation. the leading edge of the subframe looked like it had taken a knock, so they kindly addressed that situation. i would normally change all that stuff myself, but its such a pain (and expensive) getting it tracked up each time you change something that i though f**k it and let someone else play under the car!

They are nothing like a standard VR at all, they are complete animals :D The stock engine is too laid back and the gearing is too tall, so it does tend to feel underwhelming. It's a deceptive engine though as you do travel faster than you think, it just doesn't feel it :D R32s are the same. A good initial punch in the kidney around 2K rpms, but from there they feel a bit flat. That is exactly what i think about them. The speedo says you are going fast (its does go round pretty quick) but the bum says different I think. my 1.8t feels much rawer. it wants to throw you down the road and gives you a good kick up the bum when you put your foot down. its only mild numbers (247bhp and 250lb/ft) but its alot more exciting. the VR turbo is a stonking piece of kit. i would love a mk4 r32 turbo. The only problem with the 1.8t, is when its in standard guise i.e a mk4 golf, its not very exciting. im running mine on standalone and its worlds apart!

I*d forgotten about Flux until today, i did have a policy with them year before last but HIC beat their renewal. Will give them a ring tomorrow and see what they say. i really hate all this ringing around, its repetitive aaaaaargh! Flux won't quote you if HIC did, they are the same company

if you love the G60, you wouldn't be dissappointed putting a 1.8t in. boost is addictive! the thing i find with the G60 (or the 1.8t) is they are alot more raw than the VR. The VR is a very smooth engine (as is the R32). Ive driven NA VR's and while they are quick, they never really threw me up the road the same way the G60 did. I dare say that a turbo VR is much more fun but ive not been in one yet (always a willing passenger if anyone is offering! ). I dont think the weight difference would be a problem either way. putting the 1.8t in is a piece of p*ss though. where abouts are you anyway? it would be worth seeing if someone could take you for a ride to help you decide

Should the CV joint just "slide" into place, or use force?

The cups are nice. Was thinking at the slipstreams as I want something simple to clean! I'm running 8x17's now and wanted to go back to 7 or 7.5 inch wide really. Never really sure what et I need to run to avoid using spacers? Where did you get them from? Cheers, Rob
-
Has anyone had any experience with rota wheels? Are they any good? Did they clear or without spacer? Where did you get them from? I'm liking some of the stuff they do but I need some wheels that will fit without spacers as I'm not a massive fan of them. Any help will be much appreciated, Rob

that's not being an exception, that's normal!
-
Had a quick look under the nearside, looks like a bent subframe on the leading edge wishbone bush. Not good!
-
We have alot of those round here. You have to be careful because the old bill sometimes sit round the corner or with these community idiots
-
excellent! That's good information, now I know the direction I need to take. Could shot wheel bearings on the front give me these sort of problems?
-
The camber and the toe are near as dammit to what the machine told the mechanic to set the figures at. These were based on it being a g60. So why would the caster angle be so far out on the left side?
-
Mine doesn't go into the arch I'm afraid,I didn't need that much space so couldn't be bothered to go that far!lol!
-
Its probably bigger than you thought it would be, but its smaller than a standard box. It fits what I need to get in there ok and now is bolted to the car so it wont roll around! Also bought a tesco value pillow earlier to stuff in there, see how it sounds!!

ive been having a few handling issues of late, where the car wanders all over the road and seems be be thrown off line more than I remember. I know that having lowered suspension and bigger/wider wheels will make it bump steer a fair bit. however, i'm sure that its worse than usual. Anyway, i've changed both bottom ball joints (genuine), both track rod ends (genuine), have poly bushes throughout the front end, polybushed the rear axle, had the 4 wheel allignment done and fiddled with the tyre pressures. so after doing the above and having the tracking done (STS Tyre Pros) ive got these figures and it still doesn't feel 100%. Could someone look over the figures and see what they think please? Front Left: Camber: -0.40 Caster: 1.13 Toe: -0.02 Front Right: Camber: -0.43 Caster: 1.41 Toe: -0.01 Rear Left: Camber: -1.43 Toe: 0.24 Rear Right: Camber: -1.17 Toe: 0.37 I know you cant really adjust the caster angles, so they must be out for a reason? like wise with the angles on the rear? Thanks in advance, Rob

I modified an existing box. Ill take a picture for you later to decide if it's what you wanted before I measure it all up
-
Good info guys. Not really sure what it should sound like, just remember Reading somewhere that it effectively inceases to internal area of the box. Might get a tesco value pillow in there or something!
-
gsf sell the long driveshaft tool, very handy. that way you dont need to get under the car to undo them. make sure you give the tool a little tap to make sure its in the bolt properly
-
hi, ive just modified my sub box so it sits in the right hand side of my boot, but im thinking I might need some wadding for the box as its a little smaller than it was before. can anyone tell me what stuff I need and how much to put in there please? cheers, Rob
-
Good call! - This seems to be a fairly common one on VR's and I know of people that have chaged most of the above to fix it but no no avail... not many would think of the oil pump though but it makes sense! it does something like hydraulic up the tappets from what I understand. I only changed mine because I put a replacement oil pump a couple of weeks beforehand, then I started having problems
-
oil pump relief valve possibly? there is a pressure relief valve in the oil pump which can get stuck which causes the engine to not start. i had this on my G60, changed the oil pump and winner winner just a thought...
-
braking from cold isn't an issue on track, and the pads heat up pretty quick anyway. i guess the only problem with the DS pads is the price. I might give them a go when i change my pads though, they are getting pretty good reviews on here
-
they are meant for track use so i hope they are going on a track car? i would imagine they would be ok on the road though, they didn't seem too bad when they were cold. get them warmed up though and they are fantastic! i could out brake alot of stuff on the track with ease, even with standard discs on
-
ive had greenstuff pads before and they worked ok. they wont be up to much hard work though. ive got yellowstuff pads on my track car and they are immense!
