have a go at building it, it will be the best way to learn. whats the worst that can happen? i assume your bottom end it shot so you are trying to replace it on the cheap? if that is the case then you won't be any worse off if it goes bang? thats my opinion anyway

the kit my mate used was the DIY wiring loom with the MBE ECU with the right program installed. the kit basically included the plugs you needed and the connectors with a comprehensive instruction list. we had to strip his 20V loom back and put the plug on for the ECU along with adding in some things. was very easy and worked straight away. alot of money? perhaps, but it was quite good in fact and does include the ECU. i dont work for them, or get any commission on their products, but i would use it again. thats just my opinion. probably cheaper ways of doing it, but that was easy

me and a mate used the qpeng DIY kit (600 + VAT) and modified the loom ourselves to put a 20V in his mark 2 golf. absolute doddle. much easier than we first thought. the engine from the earlier cupras is supposed to be better than the BAM lump, so go for it. just out of interest, how much are you buying it for? i might have it if you dont want it!

it was but steve couldn't sort it out. so im not sure whether its a mechanical issue or map problems. i can't imagine im alone in having this problem so i wondered how it was sorted or actually what the problem is. any ideas darren?

i could give it a go. i did wonder if there was enough fuel pressure there? any more suggestions guys and gals?

i would say its probably since i got the new engine

morning, just thought i would ask, see if someone could help me cure this annoting problem.. when you hold the throttle on the G60 at low revs, the revs then drop (throttle still in the same position) then pick up again. it will do this a few times. now this is not on idle, its on part throttle, ie 1500rpm. this will in turn make the ride really jumpy at low revs. has anyone solved this problem before, its really getting on my nerves as it makes the drive really crap. you either have to gun it or not be on the throttle! got no hair to tear out now, so please help!! rob

i did do alot of the work myself though. most of that cost was parts. no installation the biggest problem for me is the fact that the whole process was a pain in the arse for me, so i cant really enjoy the end result if that makes sense. if someone else was to have my car, im sure they would have a ball, but ive had enough of it if you know what i mean. the fun has been taken out of it. i know it all sounds like doom and gloom, but that is just my take on it. the engine is good, but it has been tainted by the hassle i think Rob -

I havent actually sat down and worked out what i have spent as im sure it would only upset me! I would say its in the region of 3500 to 4000 on the engine. not including a charger but that does include a manifold. its completely up to you guys what you do though, i can only give my opinion from my experiences. when i decided to go down the 1.9 route, i had wrecked my block and no.1 piston, so i needed to start the bottom end from scratch. knowing what i know now, and seeing what can and has been done, i would go 1.8 20V turbo. i dont think the cost would have been that different for me, and we all know how tunable that engine is. the G60 is really cheap to get to 220bhp, but after that its quite expensive. its a nice simple engine (the G60), but its hard to justify the expense compared to the results if you know what i mean. im sure its the same for the VR6 boys, spending thousands on manifold and cams for a reletively small gain in power. this is just my 2 pence worth though so if anyone has a cheap 20V turbo motor going, let me know! -

ive got a 1900cc G60 in my corrado, and as mentioned a few times, its fairly expensive to do. i wanted to retain the G60ness of my car aswell which it has done. i used a G60 block with some forged pistons (cant remember the size) with the standard crank and rods. a set of pistons will cost you about 500 quid, machine work on the block about 150 quid you will want/need to do some head work aswell to compliment the bottom end work, perhaps CNC head or at least a cam upgrade. bigger injectors and a remap will also be needed. any labour work will also needed to be taken into account. some nice power and torque gains without ringing the neck of the supercharger. perhaps alot of money compared to a BAM or AGU conversion but it all depends on what you want from the car. it can be alot of ballache and i think if i was in the same position again, i would go different route, but hey, such is life just make sure you save plenty of money for all the little things that add up -
book of racing drivers excuses: excuse 112: "I lost time because i couldn't get 3rd gear, the dash was in the way"!!!!
-
i know mr renshaw has done the TT dash, and it looks fantastic. would love to have a chat with him about it i wouldnt mind a TT dash myself, just waiting to see what comes around. i think it will more than likely be a golf mk 4 or passat dash as they are easier and cheaper to get hold of. i think the physical side of the install wont be the hardest part, it will be mating all the electronics with the existing engine and all the existing wiring. unsure whether it would be better to change the fuseboard to a mk4 board and convert my existing wiring, or keep my board and convert the new dash wiring
-
i think the reason i keep contemplating selling my car is because it feels so dated inside, so the solution, change the dash :D i should imagine there are a couple of people on here who have done the mark 4 dash into a corrado, so im calling on these people to share their information with me...please! i think the dash will physically fit between the doors, although i suspect the door cards will need modifying to fit. so can snyone give me some advice on what parts they used, especially for the wiring side. many thanks in advance, Rob

A mystery about US and UK G60's and interference engines...
Rob_B replied to potatonet's topic in Engine Bay
180 degrees out on the cam wont cause the valves to hit the pistons. my valves do come past the bottom of the head, which is to be expected as the valves sit level with the bottom of the head with no cam in -
well it was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago and i hadn't even thought of that to be honest. i will check the boost pipes tomorrow but i should imagine that it won't be as easy as that! it would be nice though! keep the thoughts and opinions coming guys i suppose i haven't done any work on the car for a couple of weeks, its time to get dirty :brickwall:

evening all, i seem to have a lot of blue smoke coming from my exhaust and have hard acceleration. what does this mean, and how am i going to get it sorted? many thanks, discerning corrado owner
-
why would you want to use gti 8v head bolts (if they are any different to pg bolts) when the correct bolts are about 1 pound each? oh and the G60 head gasket is metal anyway, referring to the earlier post if the TSR kit is that cheap and comes with all that gear, its a bargain. i paid that much for my forged pistons alone
-
awesome game, got it last nite, cant put it down! got a turbo R32, the VF charger didnt quite cut it so had to hav a turbo for 600bhp!! better than turismo i think
-
hello mate, that is a pain in the backside, been there and done that im afraid. anyhow get a new oil pump from VW, about 120 quid use headbolts from GSF, about a quid each use a crank pulley bolt from a DX engine use the best bearings you can afford, but VW bearings are expensive, very expensive 83mm pistons will fit, ask BlueJoe what he fitted as he went BIG with his, cant remember what size mine are. they are forged items mind you regards, Rob

its always nerve racking when torquing bolts real tight!!!
