  1. He's right. They're boring but necessary!
  2. My cat's in a skip somewhere. I didn't even think to keep it. Still, strictly speaking all cars with oil breather filters should fail the MOT. I reckon it'll be down to the competency and/or leniancy of the tester unless it says very specifically in the rules that all cars which came with a cat regardless of age must have one fitted.
  3. As long as the suspension and brakes are in good nic he should be OK. The G60 is a "sports" car after all and should be able to cope with a little extra grunt. The car will handle nicer and look a lot better if you lower it a touch though.
  4. The cars still in the garage now and they're trying some H&R camber bolts I bought but never got round to fitting. They reckon that the driveshaft is in compression owing to the car being lowered and (according to them) running too much negative camber. Why this would manifest itself to this extent only when some new inner CV joints are fitted I don't know. I haven't driven the C for about a month now. :(
  5. I'd get an exhaust and manifold/downpipe. Or if you haven't already got one; an oil cooler!
  6. Welcome :) andy665 will have kittens (he's got a nugget G60)!
  7. A 4 stroke will always have the lubrication but the mixture in a 4 stroke refers to the air/fuel mixture. I think that an engine running lean is hotter as their is proportionally more oxygen in the burn. I could, however, be speaking complete rubbish. Have a look here for loads of info on mixture, knock, detonation etc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detonation ... ion_engine
  8. They've double checked this with EuroCarParts and apparently there's only one inner CV for all Corrados. It's also common to some Mk3 Golfs and also Ford Granada's he said.
  9. That's a two stroke though where the go juice must be a compromise between engine safety/longevity and performance.
  10. It's a nightmare. The car has been trailered back to the place where I originally had the CV's fitted. My local place said I should really take it back to them which is fair enough. My local garage (Joe's- a VW specialist) said that there's usually a small amount of "play" in the driveshafts and there isn't it mine. The garage it's been trailered to (PTA) are talking about machining a small amount of the CV off to afford this play. But it was fine with the old CV joint, granted they were worn and clunking, but they didn't need to be machined. To me, this isn't the answer and something is wrong. Also the vibration coming through the steering suggestst to me that something is majorly out of balance. This is one of those very boring and unglamarous threads! My Corrado patience is wearing very thin as the car's been off the road for weeks now. :( I tried calling John (16VG60) but he's really busy at the moment so I'm a little short on expert advice. Garry: Wheels are std 15 inch BBS G60 wheels, recently balanced too.
  11. Oh man! :pukeright: :drinking:
  12. I was under the impression that lean engines run hotter? Overfuelling can damage the cat in more serious cases but usually I think that running a bit rich is more of an inconvenience than a major danger. (Engine experts cut in at any time..... :))
  13. Honestly, that was straight from ETKA or EKTA or whatever it's called!
  14. My (girl)friend's got a SportKa and I have to take the VW "high ground" on that one! It really is like sitting in a baked bean tin, the plastics are hard as nails and it's not very well screwed together. Still, they're only a £9K car I suppose. It's quite peppy though and is perfect for whipping down narrow lanes. (it's even got AC and leather!)
  15. I purchased a new knob the other day and my hand nearly gets stuck to it it's soo cold in the mornings ;) I might give this a go then. (Obvioulsy I need the car to be out of the local garage and actually working before I start faffing with pretty lights )
  16. The blower is on the non-driver's side. If you lift up the scuttle tray bit and lift out the grate you can see the fan (which looks like on of those fairground rides where you get in and the centripetal force makes you stick to the side as it spins round. Then you go in the air and are sick cos you've had too much beer and candy floss)
  17. Andy "Encyclopedia" 665! If you were at all interested there was a good geeky (meant in a good way) article in Practical Performance Car on the Lotus twink a couple of months back. (The Vauxhall Redtop XE is another good 2 litre 16V unit though)
  18. It's an interesting point although Ford chose to associate themselves with those partners in order to bring in the materials or expertise or whatever in order to satisy their objective whether it be to make an F1 engine or an engine for a Fiesta based coupé. I'd give them credit for that rather than criticism? (Wasn't the lotus twink based on the Ford?)
  19. Foci's consistently come out top in terms of driver appeal and you can't deny that Ford have got a racing heritage which goes back much farther than VW's. The Focus's are pretty well screwed together, they're certainly not the rattly shells people like to believe they are. VW's aren't the be all and end all in quality and marque. All "GTi" type varients of bog standard family cars have stuck on plastic trim etc to set them apart from the poverty spec models.
  20. That's reassuring then!
  21. Mine does about 280 miles on a 12 gallon tank of petrol if you run it until you're scared it's going to stop. I find that the first 50 miles of a tank cause the needle to drop proportionally more than you'd think and the final 50 miles or so seem to last longer than you'd think. I'd imagine it's something to do with the calibration or shape of the tank. 280 miles is if you drive very economically though. That's about 23mpg which sounds about right for a midly tuned G. Still, I've just had a cam and an SNS chip fitted so that might mean it'll drink a bit more.
  22. The thing is that all Corrado's are at a minimum 10 years old and most have done over 100K miles so they're all getting on a bit. Just get one that's been enthusiast owned and has had loads of time and money already lavished on it! I love those 306GTI6's, I very nearly got one but I already had a French car so fancied something a bit different.
  23. Assuming your engine is in absolute tip top condition and is running fine (and the charger's in good health) then I'd get the following done in this order: Prices are estimates: Oil cooler: £130 Chip and pulley + set up: £250 Ported charger rebuild: £400 K&N panel filter and cool air feed from brake duct: £100 all in Exhaust: £300 Manifold: £180 FMIC: £550+ Then move onto to things like headwork etc. Give Darren call at G-Werks (g-man).
  24. Sounds nice, They're so cheap too. I'm not sure my electrical prowess extends to wiring them up though!
