  1. there is an argument going currently going on on a lotus seven forum that big powered turbo'd sevens are hardlies any faster around a track than a highly tuned NA motor as the car has limitations on how much power it can put down. basically the argument goes that you have to lift off the power in the corners as it will just break away, and the NA motor holds better corner speed as its more predictable. Obviously the big power motors are mental in a striaght line though!!!
  2. Lets be fair it was a heap of sh't though
  3. horrocks will confirm that the incorrect details bit is not entirely a get out of jail card as it were. when they nicked him for doing 132mph they put down the wrong date. He contested it in court....and they still done him
  4. I think doubles might be onto something
  5. LOL yes its a special duck with pipe bending skills ;) Aparrently mandrel benders are massively expensive. They end pipes at my company, they are about exhaust pipe size but they are 10mm+ thick....still....they wouldnt rot through :D You can buy pre bent sections of pipwork, which you can mock up with gaffer tape, then either weld them up yourself or take them somewhere to weld up. you should get yourself a little mig welder kev, they are very handy things. When I have finished this I am going to make myself some gates for my driveway lol How did you guess my next question? ;-) I will mail you soon :D
  6. Well....I used to be a bit ropey on the welding but I think I am ok now. Its just like colouring in really lol Actually when i look at this framework I have put together I can see where I have started as my welds are slowly getting neater and neater lol Ta, Its quite neat and should look the part when its all plated up. they look like motorbike batteries? are they powerful enough to do the job? big weight saving then. I think I would probablies go for an Optima.

    my 20v again

only problem you will have with the temp sender is that it may think the engine is too cold and and put more fuel in, or weirdly, if the map is setup properly, too hot and also add more fuel. I doubt that would be the problem, you would get rich running throughout. It sounds like its not got enough air entering it with the closed throttle to maintain an idle. Remember when you are slowing up the revs are falling which will cause a considerable vaccum in the manifold and therefore starve the engine. I suspect this is why you had a dodgey valve in the back of the manifold... I ran my 20v without an idle valve and it was fine, I think you just have to play with the ignition timing on the closed throttle cell settings as it approaches idle speed. Ideally you need to be advancing the timing slightly as it approaches 1100rpm slow it doesnt stop the engine speed falling, but slows it somewhat. Oh the joys of custom management :D
  8. I think this title is wrong. You are asking about an 02A not an 02M. 02M is the double final drive 6 speed box found in mk4 onwards
  9. bit more progress. I think its about done now. I am going to do a little bit more work on the front right corner (theres some storage space there to be had) and then I will be ready to weld it in position
  10. is that limp mode or just not working properly ;)

wow, thats a new one to me. I have had loads of cars that generate vaccuum in the tank, you get a chshhh noise when you take the cap off. Its never caused any problems to me, in fact it happens on all my fuel injected cars I have had. I thought it was normal.
  12. sell it on. recoup some of the money that you have laid out for the car
  13. yep. I think I am just going to bond the panels on it. I need to make a couple of hatches too as I am going to have a place to store stuff. Doubles - I have converted my car to 4wd the unconventional way. so if I want it to look nice I have a degree of fabrication to do. I ran out of steel today so I will finish it off tomorrow afternoon.
  14. what about option 4) sell your car and buy biggerbigbens and have an already converted 1.8T and 4wd thrown in.
  15. update. Spent the day constructing the framework for my boot floor. Note the nice location of the battery. Its not finished but you get the idea.

the dta system doesnt like lambdas I am afraid. I had the same thoughts as you, tried to set it up on a rolling road, and it ran like a bag of sh't. binned one lambda. curing overboosting is quite simple Sam, you can do it yourself if you had a laptop. Basically you have 2 tables, one for fueling one for ignition. Both as used to select a base value for either the spark advance or the injector pulse width. Then in adition to this you have a set of modifying tables that the ecu applies to the selected base value. eg the boost manifold air pressure table is linked to the map sensor (obviously) and applies a percentage multplication dependant on the boost in the manifold. So to cut a long story short once you have the base map and the correction factors in for boost which you already have, then it basically maps itself and you can play around to a certain extent with the boost. Which leads me onto the boost table. This is a simple table which displays an RPM scale and an associated maximum boost pressure. So all you need to do is wind the values on that boost pressure table back a touch and you will have your desired effect. either that or go and part with a fortune for someone else to do it ;)
  17. haldex would probablies be more available now, but you will most certainly need a syncro rear beam - unless you are really into your fabrication. You best bet would be to buy an old golf syncro. but then you will have to have the box bell housings swapped to fit a VR. In summary, its a lot of work which ever way you go, but worth it in the long run :D
  18. man...you have turned that install round in mega quick time you need to give me some tips ;)

    My boot

one question - whats an SQ?
  21. wow About turn! seriously consider what you are doing, I know a house is important, but as the fat (sorry phat) one says, see how much difference per month its actually going to make in the grand scheme of things. it will probablies be less than you think. I gaurantee you will regret it. Worst case, stick it in that lovely big posh garage at your parents and put a cover over it until you get yourself sorted. One of the reasons my car has took so long is that I like to pay for stuff only when I have the money for it. Makes the job slower (unless you are minted lol) but the net effect is the car has zero debt against it.
