Hello, I have used the search and spoken to one or two people but i cant find a thread for exactly what i was after so here goes. Im looking at possibly replacing the engine in my VR with the plan to supercharge it in the coming months. i was thinking of using a lower mileage obd2 2.8 bottom end with an obd1 head, sp263 cams and 2.9vr manifold. Plan is to build this up with the hope to drop it straight in my coilpack engine bay and just then plug it all in and running it off my corrado 2.9 ecu. As far as i can tell the VR heads are all the same, regardless of obd1/2 or 2.8 or 2.9 The corrado does however have a different part no. for its cams? The inlet manifolds differ with the Corrado having a larger intake chamber and obd2 having a different throttle body. Bottom ends are the same and only differ in the capacity between 2.8/2.9 Ive asked a few people and get some different responses as to yes it will work to no ill need a new ecu and the rocker covers are different? so apologise for my ignorance but im no mechanic and am just basing my build on hear say so far. i would like to run a chraged vr6 on standard internals with no intercooler. i understand if i am to superchare ill need new injectors and new map. also check chains etc, water pump, crack pipe and so on. if i use arp head bolts the Stealth turbo kit thread states 360bhp is a 'safe' limit for stock internals and stock compression. how far could i go on standard head bolts and stock compression i appreciate any feedback as i would like to start gathering parts, i just want to be 100% sure this approach will be fine before committing to a new engine build as costs are limted and i need to be realistic in my approach and want a clear layout/plans of what work is needed. If all else fails i may just sell up and look at an R32 mk4 to just keep things easy, but i love the corrado and everytime i see one on the road im proud to own one and it reminds me how much of a fantastci car they are. Thanks in advance :)

was going to say dont the cams have any numbers stamped on the ends. So you've got 263s in the car and a set of 268s spare, cant all be bad ;)

Cant believe no ones quoted soap from Lock Stock' Ive recently got into cooking more and preparing food etc, watched a jamie oliver video for different cutting techniques. Like to keep my knife sharp altough its an unbranded knife but all alloy, ie the blade flows directly into the shape of the handle. i only have a sharpening steel tho but it does the trick for now :)

Well haven't actually got any 312s yet but I'll order the c&r set in the second link and get onto the chap at eBay for the longer bolts and some washers. Thanks for the help, hopefully I'll get the right ones then :)
-
Can I ask what make tyres did you opt for and did the eBay supplier deliver them fitted and balanced etc for your purchase price?
-
Let us know how you get on, my engines on 150k so think I might look for a low mileage obd2, ditch the manifold and put my 2.9 mani on and it should just then be plug and play Linking up in my engine bay :) Think I read somewhere the 2.8s have different cams to the 2.9? have you changed the crack pipe?

Didn't think they were available in 5x100, are they 18s then? I was looking at the 16" grid drifts on the rota website and they didn't have any 5x100, would love them on my VR tho. Lovely looking s3!

Absolutely love those wheels, are they 5x114?

Think im going to get this 312mm conversion up and running in prep for future mods. The above link is for the 4 bolts needed? what washers can be used and sizes? and can anybody tell me whats the difference between these two hose set ups on C&R? and will i need any different banjo bolts or will they be included? Thank you http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/shop/goodridge-brake-hose-kit-vw-1989-1995-2.html http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/shop/goodridge-brake-hose-kit-vw-1989-1995-3.html

ah my mistake, so just to clarify as im serously tempted to get a low mileage lump to supercharg. if you buy an obd2 golf 2.8, put the 2.9 mani on it you can then just drop it in, wire it up to the obd1 loom and ecu and away you go? will the obd1 ecu auto adjust to the engine only being a 2.8 and not a 2.9? or if i wanted to keep it obd2 id need to change the engine loom, ecu and loom to fusebox?
-
any mention of its obd1 or 2? if its obd 2 wont you need all the wiring loom, ecu etc? and if its obd 1 wont you need the cam trigger plate if yours is a coilack? or am i talknig rubbish? was tmpted to puchase a low mileage golf obd2 2.8 for mine but wasnt sure on a ll the needed parts?

ive had a look on the search but cant quite find what im looking for. I have a bit of noise coming from the front drivetrain, possibly the wheel bearings. ill look to replace either side as it makes sense. Im just wondering while i look into this, is there anything else i should look into at the same time. im not great with mechanics and component names etc, i will work with my dad to get the work done as it will be a learning experience for me but he lives in Rotherham so i will need to take the part sup with me. So should i look into things like the bushes, drop links, arbs, track rod ends, hubs etc? i dont want to spend hundreds unnecessarily but also dont mind spending a bit to tidy up the front end, as far as i know the front drive train hasnt been updated? And also are there any problems with fitting any of the above or is it a simple case removing and re-fitting new parts? Thanks

Does anyone know what import duties would apply? would these just be payable at your local post office. and when you nrefer to his website, do you mean the link to vortex?

Looking lovely mate, was never convinced of 17s on a rado but these are spot on, so much in fact i was planning on buying some schmidt MLs again for the summer but I'm very tempted by these. So theyre 17x8.5, what tyres and spacers did you run on the front, I only have 280s tho to be fair so should be ok, might need my rear arches rolled tho? Did you have any pics from the rear or front to get an idea of the stance, or close ups? :)

That might be the cop that pulled me over in poole rams, i wont divulge what spped i was doing but suffice to say he was very lenient. He went on about how he'd always loved corrados and loved the sound of my vr as i went past but he only ever had a golf. Up for a meet soon, theres quite a few vr's around bournemouth poole. i was thinking we could maybe arrange a rr day or something ni the south? any sorry for hi jacking :)

Reps looked pretty good on ebay, make sure you get some pics up when you receive them and let us know how you find the weight, quality, finish etc :) im all game for buying reps, if you cant afford the real price tag then why not, wish i had £1200 spare for LMs but even then not sure i could justify spending it on wheels alone, id rather spend a bit on the engine, mechanics etc.

Look forward to the pics mate, will have to organise a mini meet or something locally after Xmas.

Just came across this thread, how's the progress coming along? Looking lovely so far :) how do you find the 17x8s, do you have standard arches, any scrubbing at all?

Congratulations, but pictures:)

VR6 Battery recommendations - search not playing nicely...

Top tip, Thanks very much! Makes the s5 Bosch one £70 and the s4 £54 :) pick one up Saturday I think -
Interested in this site too, auto tech 262 cams for $275 which seems good to me, anyone know what the import duty would be?
-
Try and get the parents to sympathise with your predicament. What with Xmas etc you can't afford the repairs and they should accept responsibility of their child, or as said you'll be forced to go to the police and report vandalism and possibly go through your car insurance, but you'll suffer the increase in premium and will have to pay the xs. Have they got home insurance/car insurance? You could potentially look to try and claim through their public liability, especially if you have legal expenses on your own insurance? Or as said, retaliate on the little kids dog but I imagine that will get quite messy ;)

Some good results so far, any videos or pictures for those of us that missed out?

Sorry late reply, tyres are 205/40. Not the perfect fit I know. Bit of a wider shot on a dirty car. They do look much better in the flesh, the phone camera doesn't do them justice to be honest. Managed to get them cheap off eBay then just sprayed matt black with halfords spray paint :)
