  1. I used a big adjustable spanner that used to be my grandad. Should be a thin metal pipe that links between the boots. Mine was missing when I came to it. Can zip tie the boots but the metal ties are much better. I bought the cheap tool and ties and they are as good as the ones from vw. Worth getting the grease for the rack as well.
  2. They have some good parts. Missed some good stuff when they first appeared. They have a new 24v engine for sale. Or they did have.
  3. I did wonder that, but thought it can't matter, but yeah only jacked up one side. Didn't consider the roll bar, i looked and thought everything was independent
  4. Got the koni/HR on. Still not happy with it. Took it to another garage that i've not used before (but the guy has built and raced some nice cars over the years)He took it out for a drive and thinks its the rear suspension that is too firm still. Which is what the last garage said about the KW's. I set the rear circlip as high as it would go and am running them on the softest setting. Decided to buy some original rear shocks, (sachs advantage) will sling them on next week and see what its like. Car is looking a bit naff now due to bigger arch gaps but think i've gone past caring now.
  5. Got them on in the end, was strange as one side took ages, lots of compressing with spring compressors and jacking up under the bottom of shock(while unit was attached to car) but finally got it on. The other side was easy, took about 20mins.... Bit confused by that but got there in the end.
  6. Bargain price, seeing as they were about £119 new last time i bought one
  7. Just shove it in the hole and twist the nuts.
  8. What an arse, unless he has been had over and didn't know. I'd be pretty annoyed as £800 is a lot of money.
  9. Heard them called shock socks before, also heard they can trap the moisture and led to rusty suspension.
  10. I cut the ****ty edge off my roof trims the 1st year i got the car, nearly 8yrs later and all is well still. Can't even tell.
  11. Do i buy this? http://www.carsparkplugs.com/1x-0221503002-bosch-ignition-coil.html#.UwHgNPl_tik Then can i use my old Beru ICM part, think i have two. Or would i be better off finding something else for that job? Not sure i fancy the beru stuff. Also what is that bit of wiring with the four wires and a plug on it from?
  12. Would you take £50 posted for one? Also interested in learning more about the bosch motorsport coilpacks. Where do they come from and are they a straight fit?

  14. Not checked yet. Been a long day fitting my suspension. Typical corrado. Went to start the day yesterday fitting suspension. First thing that happened was the door handle broke.
  15. Cheers for offer. I do have some but a mate has them and was hoping I didn't have to bother trying to get them. Was thinking last night after I posted that it is probably because they aren't compressed enough off the car.
  16. Should the spring need compressing to get the whole shock assembly onto car. just removing the kw1 at the moment and they are really short anyway and easy to fit. but struggling with the koni/HR arrangement. Going to get compressors tomorrow. But even so. Wondering if it should be quite tricky. Haven't disconnected anything but the shock and top mount. Its about an inch out if line. The length from top mount to lower shock bolts.
  17. How much for all the rest of the bits? Will be ideal for when I retrim my roof lining.
  18. Is it the one that bolts on using the same holes as the slave cylinder? I should have one somewhere.
  19. All three of my broken coilpacks have been the same two connectors failing. The two nearest front of engine. Annoys me as i occasionally get a misfire when going through water and feeling i may need ANOTHER coilpack.
  20. That was me with the 263's and changed the lifters. Definitely made the noise go away but not for very long and now its just as loud as it was before. I've been all over with a metal bar held to my ear and resting it on different bits of the engine but still none the wiser. Was looking at the lifters i removed the other day and they do have lots of marks and wear on them, but i don't really know whats "normal" I was thinking of not bothering with the 263's when i have my old engine rebuilt, thinking i will just use the standard cams, not sure what makes the noise, sounds like its coming from back of head/exhaust manifold area. I also started to question the mk4 chain tensioner and bolt mod and thought i might just use the standard stuff there as well (not too hard to change it every 100k). I seem to recall my 1st engine getting louder from the chain area not long after doing the mk4 bits. I don't really know tbh so just take my ramblings as an opinion.
  21. Used that stuff for quite a while (silkolene maybe?)and engine was using oil at the time so spent a small fortune on it. Wasn't much difference so switched back to the normal oil. Am learning to live with small noises now.
  22. I have a couple of old ones suitable for refurbing if you want some cheap. Think I have a 70a and a 120a and might still have the old 90a. Can't remember if they kept it when I bought a new one. Which was best part of £300. Think its the voltage regulator gone on the 120a
  23. Will check mine, has never worked..
