  1. thats why i buy them if i see them cheap, as i know its hassle to get one quickly :( i heard the golf ones fit, they just look a little big
  2. i just checked out the camber with the spirit level and found that all the wheels have negative camber, the fronts more so than the rears. the fronts, the bubble was about a bubbles length past the line, so quite a lot, and the rears the bubble was past the line by a little bit. not very technical but i can see now that i have quite a bit of negative camber, will i need to buy a camber adjustment kit to allow a garage to get the correct settings, will they know the settings?
  3. are they oil then i didn't know whether they oil or gas?
  4. argh... i just don't know what i want anymore :( i don't think i could part with the corrado i love it too much, even if it was just to look at  looking into golfs, i'm looking at £3k ish for a decent one, not sure its worth a while change, i reckon i'd be in same situation as i;m in with the corrado, i.e: i can see i need to fork out possible £1k-£2k to get some niggly bits sorted
  5. i really love my corrado, love the look of it most, and the engine of course but after seeing a few of my older mates cars (they all late 30's) and they have mk1 golfs, sciroccos etc, all lightweight, nothing special engine wise and far from immaculate to look at, but fantastic handling etc. Whereas the corrado looks such a weapon parked next to them but isn't as much fun and seems to cost the earth to drive/fix and modify one of their golfs is immense i really don't think there is much around here that could outhandle him in that car. The car drives very well all he has done is all the bushes, some suspension/rims and a couple of braces. plus he doesn't really care too much about it, so isn't scared to get it on 3wheels etc. annoyed a guy in a tvr that just couldn't lose him on the bends so i'm starting to think i'd rather the fun factor and chuckability of a mk1 than the sheer power of the corrado, (plus corrado isn't handling right STILL, trying to figure that out asap) then i'll either just keep corrado and save for a mk1 project car, or think about selling corrado and buying a nice mk1 and maybe have a little change what are the mk1 golfs like to modify etc? i feel like i want something simple, lighter, cheaper to run and fix. i hardly use roads decent enough to get the power out of the corrado, i may change my mind after/if the corrado steering/handling gets sorted
  6. i've jsut gone back to a paper panel filter, i didn't trust the filtering qualities of my k&n panel. while fitting it with hot engine i couldn't believe how hot the airbox got, i'd never stick an open cone there :! would have to be sealed and ducted kit imo
  7. what engine do you have? i've seen 34mpg in my VR, normally sits around 30-31mpg
  8. we tried our best to get camber near right when fitting stuff, but knew it wasn't, took it to garage and they said it looked ok, tbh i doubt they even checked. i'm going to get someone to set it up properly and check out the PAS and ask if they can detect anything wrong with the rack/column. but if the camber, different springs and different top mounts doesn't sort it out, then it has to be rack/column, which isn't cheap to do :(
  9. i got a new caliper for the car from there before when one ceased, just a standard 280mm and it was about £50/60 i think
  10. Has anyone bought this brand new from the dealers before? or are you better off buying 2nd/3rd hand and having them refurb'd?
  11. also search for grills complete with the badge, i saw one there last week but didn't buy it as i already got a spare one
  12. been looking around car at weekend, i really think i'm going to take it to stealth now as i'm sick of it, been done by a ford focus due to my handling then couldn't lose a shitty escort  its just scary to drive, i know i've not had camber settings done yet so that could explain a lot. but part of me is certain that i'll get that done and still not be happy. lastest questions: Is it possible that i've put my rear springs on upside down? would this make a difference? Would a dodgy power steering pump/belt affect things? i notice when not moving, if you turn steering wheel slighty each way, say 15 degrees then rock it, it feels bizarre, like its fighting back, and i notice a very slight hiss
  13. great info there, i been thinking about having my rack changed, just done suspension, wishbones, ball joints, top mounts, track rods and ends, plus an ARB and handling is still crap, not a nice car to drive now, got owned by a ford focus the other day and an escort today i just couldn't lose :(
  14. my car still handles a bag of shite, i have a gremlin somewhere, the shocks and springs are doing their job fine, weitec ultra GT, they seem very comfort orientated, not too fair from standard until you corner hard then you notice the extra stiffness.

    COIL PACK

usually the car will be hesitate/missing under load/up hills if the coil pack is dodgy, i know thats one sign anyway
  16. just went to VW to order some touch up paint and went with the "classic green pearl" & "LC6U" (is it U or V) and they couldn't find it, came back with something called "U8" ?
  17. i think uk plates suit a uk car best? serves you right  do ze germans have uk style plates you reckon?
  18. Nice pod build JMC, very impressed. It looks to me that you've made your heater controls red as well, how did you do that? Ta ST it didn't do it, he couldn't find it
  19. worked out at £38 for the front top mounts (pair)
  20. excellent, no more trips to VW needed then  thanks
  21. in this diagram is part no 6 the same bearing that comes with top mounts, as it refers to "bearing" twice in that list? i have the rubber bit and the bearing that came with it so is there just 1 bearing or two?
  22. i'll steer clear of big boys toys then, tbh the name and advert style had already given me bad impressions  is that the garage on the junction infront of the fire station? i saw a corrado vr in there a few back and have noticed a few dubs now and then. prehaps i should pop in, i drive past it everyday nice one!!
  23. but i do have standard speedlines on mine, which helps with the comfort factor, tyres do a fair bit of the shock absorbing
  24. i just put the weitec gt kit on my car and it is very comfy, not at all crashy which i was dreading, its what i wanted really, wasn't into skateboard handling. i just renewed all the bumpstops and cut them down by about 15mm.
