  1. this thread has got a bit dusty, and most pics seem to of gone now, think i have moved them. anyway an update, not sure where i got too, but here is the latest Suspension felt tired, a steering boot was split, top mounts were noisy so thought i'd get a few new bits and try fitting it all with a mate, (to be fair he did most of it) got some weitec suspension and rear ARB, i couldn't afford much more as i wanted to replace other stuff so had to comprimise for now also got new bumpstops, covers, lower ball joints, wishbones and bushes, track rods & ends, top mounts, all of which came at full price from VW as i had no other choice  got it all fitted over 2 days, and very pleased with the result ARB can't really get a pic
  2. am off to recheck my diagram  the stop even had a rasied lip on the bottom that fitted/clicked into place on the top of the bellows? i'm not doubting you as i'm no expert at all
  3. yeah, i could see no mention on it of it being a storm, no badges, shame i couldn't see the front end, thats the best part of them. is also a mk1 golf there, but i didn't get to see that as its all wrapped up
  4. thats not how the diagram looked? and i'm sure that how the old ones were arranged on car? i thought the bellows protects the strut and the bumpstop sits on top, like the pics?
  5. is that a real storm? is it worth much as a whole or in parts? have yet to get it out, hose it down and check out the rust, as he said there is some.
  6. i really like it too, i would love to have it sprayed classic green and keep it with my corrado, but really can't afford it space/time/ or money same with the guy who has it, i been trying to tell him to keep it and restore it, but he already has other cars/motorbikes as projects
  7. right, been to see the car now... all i can say is.....DUSTY  here's the pics, i don't know a great deal about them so not sure what to look for, i didn't see a storm badge on the rear end, forgot to get a pic of the rims all the inside of boot was the same colour as the outside, so if it has been resprayed it's been done properly, (from what i could see with my bit of knowledge) the front, was tucked away so couldn't look around it very well, (note the storm logo, wasn't my finger. honest) the cleanest part was interior (is this a storm interior??)
  8. just typed an epic and it hasn't posted :( so sorry if the post is a bit short hand got it all fitted, bought both styles of plates and top mounts. here's how we assembled the front shocks once it was fitted to car, the metal bit you see under bonnet and coming through the turrent wasn't sitting on the turrent but hoovering above, we assumed that if you went over a big hump the shock would move up and down and thud???? so we took off the nut holding the spring cap on and refitted the very final top metal bit so it was sat flush and actually tight on the turrent bit of car? not sure if this is right? also was a washer shown in the exploded diagram of shock (bentley manual) that was nowhere to be found, not on the bits that came off car and not with any new stuff thanks for any help, been my first time working on a car
  9. thanks for the quick reply the late spring plates just fall through the springs (too small), i ordered early spring plates, so i guess i need early top mounts too? i've already ordered some early ones a few mins ago so hopefully they will turn up today and all will go back together
  10. hi folks, am trying to fit my suspension and the early top plate i have for the front spring doesn't seem to fit into the rubber donut bit of the top mount. do i need early top mounts as well, just phoned VW and they say the early style is one piece and the bit i have (later) is two piece, a rubber bit and a bearing it will go together but turns out twice as high as the original bits i took off really need to sort this as car is in pieces and i only have today, am trying to buy the other mounts anyway to see if they right
  11. he said it has the round lights at the front so think thats a mk1, he is a good friend and its the one helping to fit some bits to my corrado. I knew he had mk1/mk2 golfs, used to have a mk2 scirocco and camper van, so likes his vw's. When i mentioned that it could be rare, he said not to tempt him into keeping it  he wants to build a mk1 golf with a vr6 in the rear at some point, i told him why not a VR6 scirocco :D
  12. oh no :(:(:( thats an arse, i'm gutted for you. Keep us updated about insurance settlements etc, always nice/depressing to know
  13. thats not including ARB's and Shocks/springs btw, as i'm using aftermarket bits for that
  14. i went to VW in the end and for anyone interested these are the part numbers and prices for what i think/hope is needed, i got 8% discount in the end, my CCGB card didn't arrive in time, but he gave me 8% anyway, not sure why, but i didn't complain
  15. right the mystery becomes clear, its had a respray at some point, he says it has brown leather so i guess it was originally havanna brown. i'm going to see it on weds/thurs of next week, he mentioned it has a bit of rot, it may end up being sold in parts (dash, interior, wheels etc) he was quite shocked when i said there were only 600
  16. i don't like looking there, i caught a glimse once and saw quite a lot of mastic/sealant stuff, so looked away and tried to forget it was there....
  17. its like the house from wizard of Oz has landed on a camper instead of the witch!!!
  18. it was a very good handling car before all the suspension problems, had body roll, but that didn't lead to any loss in grip i miss it tbh
  19. i've had the same recentely, found it hard to keep up with little vans and small cars round the bends, turns out i have a leaking shock at the rear, kept felling like the back end was about to swing out, felt very odd.
  20. certainly bought it up to date!! am not a great fan, but really like what you have done, deffo worth while
  21. do you have any more pics of the car, i'm always checking ebay for parts, interior shot?
