  1. Original engine had worn bores and was noisy on startup (piston slap), then the headgasket went, so bought another engine from a guy on here (only wanted it as a temp engine while i had something better/new built) 2nd engine had the tappy noise and got on my nerves, but the bottom end may be good so could use that i guess. The only thing keeping me going is i had money put aside for a new daily, but the current daily went tits up last month and had to spend £1500 of the money on that. So going to keep the daily now and have some money aside which i guess will have to go back into the corrado now  @micvr, i may have seen that, is it a golf or corrado? I just look at the adverts and question how good the engine may be if the rest of the car is such a state.
  2. I feel like i'm back where i started 2yrs ago, scanning the internet for another engine etc Even starting to consider buying the "sunroof mod" corrado on ebay just for the engine and then sell everything else on it (break it for parts basically) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Corrado-VR6-1993-full-rebuild-fast-road-high-spec-px-/182191774858?hash=item2a6b79dc8a:g:mIAAAOSwuzRXdvMV
  3. UPDATE on engine, (just telling the story, not accusing anyone of anything) I rang Stealth as not heard back from them, He hadn't stripped the engine yet, but seemed to think it would have been caused by a twisted block as two other people who bought the same new blocks as i did, they both had the same problem, Vince said he rebuilt one of them and it happened again, so its a twisted block. So i rang the bloke i bought it from (who seemed very clued up on the engines as well) He kept one of the same blocks for himself, built it up as a VRT and its been fine, he also said he had supplied 25 of the blocks to various people and companies and they had been ok. He told me it would have been wrong bearing fitted or an oil jet fallen out. So went back to stealth and told vince that, so he is now going to strip the engine to look. So i'm not sure where to go now, Vince recommends to just bin the engine and start again, the other chap says he would be happy for an engineering shop to measure the engine to prove its twisted. I have my original block, (which needs some work on the bores) which is really why i bought a new block. Getting a bit fed up now, not driven the car properly for ages and feel like i've just chucked a load of money down the drain.
  4. I see where you're coming from, i dislike anyone who buys something and then sells it not long after for more money. Antiques dealers and all those bargain hunt/pickers programs i can't stand, All the same, Go into a shop, pick up something for £20, moan about the price and end up getting it for £10, then they sell it at auction for £20. All those sort of people are a waste of space. I'd feel a right arsehole being that middleman.
  5. they are helping put the prices up, don't complain about it. Someone has to start it.
  6. Glad i went with HR springs
  7. Its quite surprising how much the bigger bolts and nuts cost. Can spend a fortune at VW. But then trying to source all the correct spec bolts online can be a bit of a faff about. And then you don't really get much discount unless you're buying bags of 59 etc I think for common little fixing you could be best buying an assortment box online, might cost a bit but its a handy thing to have. For the subframe and suspension bolts I'd probably just go the VW with the part numbers.
  8. The ones i bought from VW were like these ones (from page 1), But the Corrado ones are a posi drive and hard to tell but i think the diameter of the head might be smaller. How many do you need as i might have spares. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161250240327 I'd probably get something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POZI-FLANGE-SELF-TAPPING-SCREWS-A2-STAINLESS-STEEL-FLANGED-TAPPERS-No-6-8-10-12-/111846279119?var=410826600773&hash=item1a0a8ec7cf:m:mdZtzucZ5zRReXwYrrir5og
  9. I think i got it from ebay a bit confused as i've bought a few, didn't like the look of the first one i bought and i also bought one for the fuel hose near tank. Am quite sure it was the alloy mini type from here, (shows up in my email receipts), its not an inside the hose one, i cut the hose and added it in. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Non-Return-Diesel-Fuel-Check-Valve-Aluminium-or-Nylon-For-1-4-5-16-3-8-I-D-Hose-/251270362764?var=550423714162 Can just about see it here
  10. I remember my car doing it, but not sure if it doesn't it since i fitted a new valve, shame its got no engine at the moment as i could go and test it.
  11. I wonder if its to do with the one way valve that is meant to be in one of the coolant pipes. i think the idea of it is to stop the heater matrix draining when engine isn't running. Have you got samco hoses?
  12. i prefer the closed one as i think it lets less dust/dirt into the engine bay  Probably all in my head though
  13. I replaced mine with VW ones, they are just a black screw, i notice the ones on my audi are alloy or stainless and don't rot. I'd just buy a bag from online somewhere, always feel ripped off by the dealer
  14. I have a magnex catback system and really impressed with the quality of it. But it was from before they went bust and someone bought them out.
  15. Got both and never noticed a difference, didn't enough notice they were different for a few years
  16. Jubilees, I don't think they make their own either, probably a jcs item. I never got on with the jubliee clips, swapped them all for spring type clamps
  17. I've noticed there has been quite a few "going back to stealth" on here recently :(
  18. Check the underside of the coolant hoses, i had the one from engine to bulk head split underneath and dump the coolant on the exhaust.
  19. Was that Pug 205 went for £140k at auction last year, was a T16 though and never really been used.
  20. Jim will go mental if its up for sale next week for £15k
  21. Mine used to scrape, but i stopped it and didn't need to cut anything off, think i just left the wheel on and rubbed a credit card around the gap, might have put a bit of grease on it as well, but only a small amount
  22. I thought that bit cancelled the indicators?
  23. Wonder if any forums turn up a VW owner whose wife has a red mini one.
  24. Just seen it on facebook, ****es me off. Hope nothing major got stolen.
