  1. Here's a few prototype pics (you might already be aware of them) Twin headlights make it look a bit like the DeLorean from the front. Some of those prototypes look a bit like a Passat  Most of these pics were originally in Car Styling magazine, I remember reading it at Uni over 20 years ago :)
  2. I don't think they are bonded in - mine wasn't, and I needed to replace the top trim piece. They should just slot in tightly, if I recall correctly. Maybe someone else can confirm? I got a replacement kit from this guy on Ebay a few years ago: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-1989-1996-WINDSCREEN-MOULDING-TRIM-SET-INNER-LEFT-RIGHT-TOP-OUTER/113295878325?fits=Model%3ACorrado&epid=13025912349&hash=item1a60f5e8b5:g:F1YAAOSwuNNb9CbO *edit* I see the original poster is referring to the 2 side pieces, now I'm not so sure if they are bonded in or not
  3. I agree that the Speedlines are nicer, but the solitudes certainly look better with a drop
  4. You probably want to avoid Amos motors ltd, type 'amos' into the forum search and see why
  5. I've not actually tried getting a quote from them yet, but noticed this company over on the Retro Rides forum: http://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/208438/retro-rides-insurance-discount-classicline They give a 15% discount for RR members. Although I guess it means filling in all your details for their quotation form which, as you say, is a pain in the arse when you're doing it for the umpteenth time
  6. £2 increase? Count yourself lucky :-D I've been with AF for many years, and they've been sending me higher renewal prices for the last 3 years. I think mine went from about £280 to £350 last year. That's on a 1k mile usage policy... Daylight robbery
  7. I had a G60 a few years back, it put out healthy power (around 180 bhp) but never felt particularly quick. ..and it sounded like a cement mixer  Whenever I drove it I always wished I'd taken the VR6. The VR just feels more special, and sounds great. Sure, the VR6 not a rocket by modern day standards, but it's certainly no slouch when you get it revving.
  8. Yeah they look nice when the inner part is darker. Found this old post which has them done like that: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?94000-15-quot-4x100-estoril-alloys
  9. 4 stud Estoril's are pretty common, but the 5 stud one is very rare. They only ever came in 15" flavours as far as I'm aware There seems to be a set for sale in Austria https://www.ebay.de/itm/VW-Golf-3-Corrado-VR6-Felge-Alufelge-6x15-5x100-ET-35-191601025Q-357601025H-/111987110540
  10. I wasn't talking about the people who are on low wages and don't already have a vehicle :) The expanded zone covers a huge area, there's lots of people on lower incomes driving cars which are over 10 years old and rely on them to get to work. I can't see them spending thousands on something newer. Anyway, does charging tolls actually work? They bought in the congestion charge 20 years ago to reduce traffic in central London, and it's still gridlock.
  11. I bet most people within the North Circ don't even know about the expanded zone. Once it comes into force and hits them in the wallet there'll be moans but everyone will just pay the charge.. It's funny how people in the UK just accept being shafted by things like this. If this was France there'd be protests, blockades, riots.. We should take a leaf out of their book :) My parents live just within the expanded zone, and I live just outside it. So I'll have to pay £12.50, or whatever it is, every time I go to visit. Also, from what I've read, there's not going to be any discount for residents within the zone, so my folks will have to pay the daily charge. I don't think Khan is going to be re-elected as Mayor after all this. I understand his motives for this expanded ULEZ zone, but it's just going to affect the people on the lowest incomes more than the wealthier.
  12. I noticed the Corrado is also in the Jan 2019 issue of Classic Car Mart: https://www.magzter.com/preview/9911/313644 The supermarket copy is wrapped in plastic, so didn't get a chance to read it :-D
  13. I think the one in your picture is part number 021133915B You can google it, and there's a few places you can get it online, or you could get them from the $tealers The other part of the engine cover uses slightly longer bolts, here's the part number in case you want to change those too: N90508101 I changed all my bolts a few years back, as they were looking a bit rounded
  14. Surely it can't be that difficult to make a 3D scan of a RHS one, and then just flip it?
  15. There's some overpriced tatty cloth Recaro seats on Ebay at the moment, been for sale for quite a while  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-HEATED-ELECTRIC-BACKREST-AND-HEIGHT-RECARO-SEATS-GOLF-MK1-MK2/282952285744 Anyone willing to pay even half the asking price needs their head tested in my opinion!
  16. You can use tap water, but it has impurities which can clog up the system over time. A bit like what happens inside a kettle.
  17. You can buy G13 premixed, so no need to add any water. You'll need about 6.5 litres if you're flushing the whole system. Alternatively, you could buy the concentrated coolant and mix it with distilled water. I bought 10 litres off Amazon recently, when I changed my coolant. Make sure it's distilled, and not just 'de-ionized' or whatever crap they sell at the supermarket :) To get rid of air in the system, I do this: - Make sure car is cold and take off expansion cap - Set the heaters dial to max, to make sure it flows fully around the system - Run car so that it gets up to temperature (probably 15-20 mins) (It can help to squeeze the hoses a bit to force out the air, but it would probably find it's way out once the car is up to temp.) - Let the car cool down, then top up the coolant so that it's at the max level, and then put the expansion cap back on Take it for a drive, and keep an eye on the level, incase it needs topping up again.
  18. This forum's become a lot quieter over recent years, it's a bit of a ghost town compared to its hey day. I suppose it was bound to happen, people sell up and move on or their car gets sent to the scrapper.. It's a real shame that all the pictures from the old threads disappeared when the forum moved over to a new server. There were some very useful mechanical tips and members build threads which I bookmarked, are now just all text.
  19. Yep, I've got a Sealey one too, great bit of kit https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-VS820-Clutch-Bleeding-System/dp/B000ROARTI/ref=sr_1_1
  20. There's PDF's online: https://www.vr6oc.com/installation-vr6.pdf http://autotech.com/instructions/i129020K.pdf
  21. A few alternatives: http://www.realoem.me/Volkswagen/RDW https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/ http://www.oemepc.com/
