  1. It's taken me a month to find a pin hole in the top fin of the rad just 70mm from the knuckle bend, after replacing the knuckle bend O-ring, hose clip changed to jubilee clip, then hose change. Replacing/repairing the rad must be a pretty standard job by now - so what's the standard intelligence on this guys? The rad looks like an original, so the core must be cream-crackered by now. So are there core replacement outfits oop north? Or is it a new/recent-used replacement jobby? Will the plastic end tanks go on forever - or do these suffer embrittlement? I note a firm called Northern Radiators charges close to £100 for a new one. Are there any workshop notes / advice / procedure on swapping the rad? Can't see any. [bearing in mind I'll be removing inlet mani & alternator temporarily, shortly.] I'm assuming that chemical solutions [Radseal?] are as bad now as they were in the old days?! Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Good track-day car? :?
  3. Assuming you want a modified C, provided you look/choose carefully, it will always pay to buy fairly close to the spec you want. Then tickle it to exactly how you want it. In fact some people from the Channel Islands don't know how to stop tickling!
  4. Doesn't it just restore your faith in humanity after reading of nothing but greedy commercial bankers and MP's for the last 12 months? :notworthy:
  5. Foggy This link to a decoder will enable you to identify your C from the data on the vehicle ID sticker in the boot: http://igorweb.org/equidec/howto.html also a description of Storms : viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3126 http://wiki.the-corrado.net/technical_s ... storm.html Hope you find what u want.

  7. Indeed.... VW went a touch wind crazy for a few years in the same way that Ford went porn mag crazy with Fiesta and Escort.... Some used by others already - eg Mistral and of course "fart" [a German verb]
  8. Is it just me or does anyone not think that the Karmann C Class design looks like it could very probably have been for the Mk2 Corrado? Just looks very Corrado like and the spoiler looks like it should go up and down. Just missing some slightly fatter arches. Do you mean Mercedes C coupe? Agree there is much similarity though the Merc is heavy & soggy compared with the C.
  9. At last - a guy who knows his dimensional analysis! [brings back "A" level maths/physics] I propose we keep all future references to spring rates in N/mm, for consistency. Presumably the 170mm dim is unloaded spring length?
  10. Just seen it on the Beeb - Great News. Much rather they make Boxters than CLK's!
  11. And if you fancy a Vortech V9 then go for one which has an uprated gearbox, ie a recent stage one setup or if it's an older stage 2 it could have the stronger box. If I were starting again I'd probably go Rotrex, although it's a more complex arrangement with its own oil cooling circuit.
  12. Brilliant! Wish my local stealer had thought of that fix approx 7 years ago, instead of welding the hell out of it.
  13. The crap can be water, bought from a petrol station, and can sit in the bottom of the tank doing nothing until it gets v low. A drain down, followed by a fresh tankful of V-power should be the first step. Can't see the exhaust itself being the prob, though damaging the lambda and/or its wiring wouldn't help. Best of luck
  14. Yes indeed! Having the championship sorted already should make for a sh*t or bust approach by all drivers in the last race of the season too. And all the makings are there for a cracking next season. Can't wait.
  15. Well yes, JB is a cool reserved English Gent, rather than a bubbly sales type that is LH. JB does reflect also RB's [Ross Brawn's] outlook - another English Gent. Yes he is a little diffident in qualifying, but when racing he almost always delivers - and some. Evidence - the result yesterday! :notworthy:

Wouldn't mind puttin' your car on my Corrado mirrors
  17. OK - thanks Karl, though unfortunately Metalcolours have now failed! I found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passivation also http://resource.npl.co.uk/docs/science_ ... oating.pdf It seems passivation and zinc plate prep aren't quite the same.
  18. Isn't passivation like acid etching, which is recommended on galvanised surfaces to neutralise and etch a key prior to painting? In the old days the acid etch was done with a "mordaunt solution". Or am I totally on the wrong track here?
  19. It's water injection, a fine spray just upstream of the TB. Cools the airflow and lowers combustion chamber temps. I recall earlier in this thread Kev Haywire introduced a newer, better product from Schimmel which offers better watermist flow control than the Aquamist which is a bit pricier too.
  20. WOW! Keen reportage photos. :salute: Is it The Guardian or Independent you work for, John? :) Nice to see the detail of the N/S blade parking - a miss is as good as a mile. The setup gives good coverage right upto the O/S A pillar. Do the blades keep 100% contact over the swept area?
  21. Well I'm running 263's and Schrick [probably worth 230bhp N/A?] + st1 [6psi] Vortech V9 charger and, as you say, get just short of 300. The tired standard fuel pump was replaced by an uprated one which enabled the std injectors to be retained. Vince reckons there's about 20 bhp left in the std injectors. At this ouput though the inlet and the SC casing get too hot to lean on even at this time of year and I'll be putting an insulating gasket on the lower inlet mani during the wet season. The TB hot water feed will be short circuited. May also up the Aquamist output.
  22. That looks near perfect John! Though, being a fussy burger I'd want to bend the N/S arm just 3 or 4 degrees parallel with the glass, to park the blade parallel with screen bottom. Is the O/S just right then?
  23. So - will the Passat driver's blade fit the TT passenger arm to give full screen coverage without trimming? The photos would be most welcome. :)
  24. It's nice to hear when peeps make good improvements to their loved ones! :D What was the rating of the springs you put on then?
