My originals cleaned up lovely with a soft wire brush. [suede type] Now protected with a fine film of Waxoyl. :D

I have H&R on Koni TA with the damping set about halfway currently. the setup gives a very firm ride and sticks like glue on smoother roads, feels very secure on good roads, no matter what the speed. But on brown and yellow roads bit more skittish and bumpy roads jar every bone! I know Crazydave has direct experience of both PI and KW setups and trust his judgement. [Night and day - his words!] Having said that I have driven his VRT with the PI setup on twisting good to average B road and felt like glue sticking whilst giving a comfy ride! Nevertheless, I recently passed on a chance to swap to PI springs, with a view to saving for a KW alternative. I might try some lowered standard rated springs, if I could find some, as a cheap experiment.

Blimey! Are 12V coilpacks becoming a new currency as well as 24V? I still haven't received 2No 24V ones I ordered back in August, when I borrowed yours Mike! What are VW playing at? Tidy looking 12V BTW! :D

Like the satin black finish on the earlier C's.

Hi mate and welcome aboard! Have a look at p2 - VAG-hag's comments - they're all true - I've driven his lots. Also if you're thinking of going FI at sometime - they work well with this too. :D
-
Don't think I'd be doing much driving at all! Initial thought is "do more passenger miles", though the prospect of having to deal with results of driver error doesn't bear thinking about. :gag: Say - that would be good for the environment too!
-
Most definitely - a good transverse lump of iron up front provides significantly greater occupant protection than other configurations, also more than it ever gets credit for! And in a severe front ender the last thing I would wish for is a near half tonne lump of engine/gbox travelling behind and towards me! Good to have your re-assurances Tom.

Right - thanks for that Kip/Judith. Certainly a super looking job, however the coating prep was done. Did all the appendages, eg plastic cable guides etc transfer OK or did you find these needed renewing?
-
Joking apart - it's most certainly worthwhile - part of having control over your own destiny. [As far as you can within the western world's most developed/refined democracy!] Tuesday next I make my final mortgage re-payment! :D :D :D

Has anyone weighed in a 17" BBS RX wheel? Have I missed a table collating all the data? If no-one's done this I'd happily sort it but have only Word or XL. If I sort this can someone else transpose an MS file into a graphic file compatible with CF?

Can't beat keepin it simple, son! If you can keep rust at bay & build up a stock of essential spares - yours may turn out the shortest list in history. :D

  :cuckoo: Gobsmacked!! You'ld done all the hard work!

Judith How did Batchglow go about blasting all the awkward hidden from direct view areas? And how did they check these areas? Presumably for nylon coating they'd need to blast to a fairly high Swedish SA standard? How did they keep all the mating surfaces free of nylon? Did you keep the bush tubes clear of nylon? Sorry to bombard you - the questions just seem to naturally present themselves. :?

Just 1 question - How do you find it in the snow??? Christmas Greetings from across the North Sea. :D

By 'eck - you could eat your dinner off the underside of your car Judith!

Guess my list is relatively short as I've been working on it 40 odd years! 1968 F reg Minivan ex Rank-Xerox green/white - traded in for -> 1969 J reg 1275 Clubman antelope - sold privately 1971 L reg Escort Mexico yellow - sold privately 1973 M reg MGB Roadster harvest gold - sold privately 1976 N reg Escort RS2000 Mk1 - written off after bonnet fire 1976 N reg Renault 12 silver - sold privately 1978 P reg Polo Classic GL 1.3 purple - sold privately 1984 S reg Scimitar GTE 6a white - traded in for -> 1986 Y reg Fiesta 1.1 blue - traded in for -> 1990 C reg Volvo 370 silver - traded in for -> 1991 D reg Volvo 245 GLE estate blue - part of divorce settlement 1991 E reg Volvo 340 red - traded in for -> 1992 J reg Peugot 205 D silver grey - written off [loose chippings] 1994 M reg Peugot 205 STDT metallic green - traded in [what a contrast!] for-> 1996 N reg Corrado Storm classic green [divorce settlement present to self] - after 8 happy years handed onto VAG-hag 2004 02 reg Bora V6 4M oceanic green - current daily 2007 N reg Corrado VR6 aqua - current fun [couldn't tolerate the C withdrawal pangs even after 3 years!] I can fairly say I've enjoyed every one and none has been any significant problem, though the Scimitar involved a fair bit of love/hate which I attribute to the designers choosing the wrong parts bins when selecting components/manufacturers! BTW the dates/reg letters are to the best of my recall - no prizes for detecting mis-matches!

Hi Sprinter As it happens I have a spare brand new VAG un-used dizzy centre lead - £8 + delivery? -
I see what you mean Mic - the boggo mani is tight enough on the Bora
-
What's the difficulty? The 24v uses a common port for each valve pair doesn't it?
-
Has it been dynoed yet Kev?

Very roughly half way between Nurburgring and Osnabruck - musk have skimmed around it last Sept. Great news that VW could revive Karmann and get them to build the Boxster & Cayman @ Osnabruck!

Have found Autoglym cleaner & cream give a good result. The cream is good at bringing back dried out old leather [checked your rear head-rest area recently?] Mine were fit to crack but after 6 months of cream and TLC are now almost supple! :D

Had a delicious lunch/dinner @ The Hovels Brewery in Dortmund last saturday - pork specialist restaurant! Got in just before the hordes after Dortmund won 4-0 :D
