  1. For what it's worth: Mine's a standard [?] Mocal sat in the nearside bumper and normally provides 94/96 deg on the move in summer but can get to 104 if pushed hard uphill or standing in traffic. It's relatively sheltered but will see some turbulence. VAG-hag's is about 19 row, sat on slam panel in direct cooling flow behind a vented grille and has very rarely seen more than 100 deg, if at all. [standard+263's] Both have the Mocal thermostatic sandwich thingy.
  2. No 2 wasn't Pianowire by any chance? Can't see any results on any of the Pod links. Does anyone have any?
  3. They don't come lookin' sweeter than that - well found and looked after m8. :D
  4. You gotta laugh tho'. Who on earth would be that desparately dissatisfied with their C to do that?

    back pressure

I've heard of the need for "backpressure" before, but never seen a logical/engineering dynamics explanation for the need. I'd have thought the expanding exhaust stroke flow would want all the space possible to move into? What is the explanation?
  6. Glad to have your confirmation on that, Kev. BTW - don't much care for straight lines - prefer a sweet curve or two! [just like the C]
  7. An excellent race and a superb result. :salute: Let's hope some of the enthusiasm and optimism generated rubs off on the UK economy. :D Pity about the Brawn GP redundancies, but perhaps RB will be helping with the severance packages. I guess timing-wise it was the best of a bad job. :(
  8. Now that's what I call a sense of presence of the occasion! Good lateral skills.
  9. What have Braun done... entered Flavio's hair curlers? Might be in for a close shave. Or even win it by a whisker!
  10. I'm hoping to smooth out the drop @ approx 4200 rpm by tinkering with the dip switch settings. If anything the 263's have exagerated the dip. Might an adjustment to say 4600ish fill in the dip? Any thoughts Kev?
  11. Yep thats why I prefer the CL600  You can get a nice one for £10k. MPG isnt that bad either as in urban situations the engine only uses 6 cylinders 8) But at 10k won't it be the N/A one? Does it shut down the same 6 cylinders each economy drive?
  12. And there's no adverts this season! You gonna join the fantasy league Phil? 1 of my teams is on the practice track right now. The other is locked in a dispute with Bernie. :cuckoo:
  13. And there's no adverts this season!
  14. No it was the CL600  I thought a 5.5L twin turbo V12 sounded rapid. The 0-60 in 4.8 secs and 590lb ft was impressive anyway! Prefer the 65! 8) - as Kev says for autobahn cruising. There are a few about, but a half decent one fetches over 30k, even now. And the mpg - you gotta be a sheik!
  15. Is that what you wrote Phil? I think everyone is drunk already! They're all having a preseason warm up before the start at the weekend  No - not at all - I never drink before 6 during the week - though I do keep one watch set to Dubai time!
  16. Shsh! I haven't told Vince yet! :ignore: [There are a couple of improvements/developments to mention next time I'm down there!] Not sure as to the origins of the silent belt - it came, un-used, from one of Karl's clear-outs - cheers Karl!
  17. Dunno what happened there, it gave an error about maximum nested 3 quotes and went back to the edit screen, I will remove what I can. Good site that is and covers many countries, but not Abu Dhabi, I think that might have to be a lucky dip choice. Added Amstel for Spain or Steinburg if you can find it. Borsodi Bivaly for hungary (looking for a supplier) West End Draught for Bahrain but again supply of a bottle might be an issue - tiger for me if not. I've put Arran down for british as I can't think of any other nice blonde to drink (McEwens? Skol? Harp? all :epicfail: ) For UK - how about Golden Sheep - the latest blonde offering from t' Black Sheep Brewery @ Masham ? and I'm still looking for how I include an html table in a BB post.
  18. Just spotted this thread! I had a knocking/thumping noise, started after Vince refurbed CH, and put 263's in. The source seemed to be the blower gearbox and the thump was worst from cold, dissipating to nothing when fully warm. A clear thump could be felt as well as an audible knock - v disconcerting as I thought the blower might be faulty or at risk. Frequency was approx 6th of crank speed so I put it down as related to the 7 rib belt drive. Sure enough when swapped with my standard weight spare belt the knock disappeared forever. :D Vince had fitted a heavyweight belt which seemed to take up a fairly rigid static shape when cold and then took some warming up to flex it up a bit. Side by side the belts are quite different in flexibility but only a little different in cross section.
  19. Swifty's done both fronts on the Bora, at different times - says VW springs & ARB's very prone to failure. Must be VW building in technical obsolescence to maintain cashflow - after all, it's not rocket science!
  20. you must be on about some sort of adjustment on the manifold control unit or the diaphrame sorry to sound stupid but i dont even know if i've wiried the control unit up right On the Schrick the control box arrives with the dip switches set to the default value of 4k rpm. The instructions provide a table of switch settings for a wide range of changeover rpm values. I'm sure 4k is a best guess rather than an optimal value as this depends also on what hardware the VSR is connected to. Indication of the changeover can be seen on the Schrick controller, usually sat next to ECU, when the green light swaps to red. I don't think the exact results of adjustment can be predicted, unless you're a Schrick expert, but I plan, when I've got my hardware how I want it, to discuss the issue with Vince, with a view to having a RR session & optimise the setting.
  21. Showing your age there Shaun!
  22. Yes - on the Schrick there's a change of note as soon as the valve operates, then a split second hesitation as the new flow pattern stabilises itself, then the mild torque surge.
  23. i would'nt change mine for any of those  What about swappin for a new GTR then?! :norty:
  24. Does the controller indicate the changeover, if so, at what rpm? The default is about 4k rpm. [On the Schrick this is adjustable by dip-switches in the controller.] There should be a discernible change of engine note and a mild surge of torque at changeover.
