Engine 4 and counting-Thats VW genuine parts!!
double-6s replied to flyferrari's topic in Engine Bay
WTF!!?? What engine is it mate? Valver? Has anyone said why they think it keeps happening? What are they replacing each time? Head or complete engine? Very odd!! -
Corrados and wet corners and hedges don't mix!

Ouch. gutted. What happened there then mate? -
An1 know what supercharger this has got on it?

I've heard/been in a BBM charged Mk2 golf and it sounds even worse than in that clip. Ridiculous. Like those stupid chavvy loud dump valves and things - 'look at me!' They do a 'silencer kit' which aparently helps a bit. -
Yeah the Alfas are even less reliable!! Not so actually dude. The Alfa V6 is very strong and very reliable according to what i've seen/read/heard. It's the rest of the car that falls apart :)

If it's gonna be that much hassle you might as well just stick an Alfa 3.2 in there mate. Probably the same amount of work. Then you can do a 3.8 conversion (non-solid block) on it for a nice 330 or so horses, then charge it for the full 400! :) I'm a huge fan of the VR engine, but I personally think the Alfa lump is in a different league (cue abuse!) :)

I think anything golf derived is out. S2 - long in the tooth by now. Alfa spyder - baggy as fook. Don't bother. ST170 - puurrlleeeaaaseee :(

True, it is very hard to find a replacement which can match the qualities the Corrado has. Having said that, I have had a Leon Cupra in the past, so I knew roughly what to expect, but it is worse than I thought. I have considered selling the Golf and getting an S3, but I fear I will find that pretty dull too. Out of interest, double-6s what would your choice be for a Corrado replacement for around £5k - £7k? The only other car I think I should have looked at more seriously is the BMW 3 series, however I think that may not have grabbed my interest like the Corrado. A friend has a classic Impreza WRX, which is nice, but I could not live with the Jap interior, so that was out of the question for me. Yeah I thought the S3 was dull as fek as well to be honest mate. Don't like the interior either - not really special enough. I also can't stand anything jap because of the interiors. Truly awful. £7k? Difficult price...... 328i sport? I'd say M3 but 8k still buys the ropierhigh mileage end of them generally. Or get a small loan and buy a proper car - Alfa GTA! :)

I think it's partly about what car you move on to though mate. With all due respect, I could've told you that a 1.8t GTi wasn't gonna cut it against a rado - chipped or not. I have to say I haven't regretted it at all so far. My new car is faster (much faster), looks great, drives great and puts the same massive smile on my face that the rado did every time I drove it. Maybe careful selection of the replacement car is the key? I know exactly what you're saying though - most modern cars are dull as ditchwater compared to the C.

Looks good dude - who's the gaylord in the reflection though? ;) My alfa's just had a wee bit of paint too

Always friendly kev? So are you simply a nice chap, or do you get laid all the time? :)
-
The turbo. They make most engines pretty darn tuneable! :)
-
Did you get it done pink for him mate? :)

Took me about 6 weeks :) (and lots of Optimax/money/limbs) :)
-
Nah mate - you want an Alfa GTA :)

I wasn't being patronising or owt mate. Didn't mean to be anyway :) It's wierd how much driver/attitude/timing makes a difference though. I remember one day getting properly spanked by a last-generation clio 172/182 jobby in my properly run-in, schriked-up, brand new engined VR. I was gutted :( I reckon most of it was being caught off guard though. Those one or two seconds when I was thinking 'wha the fek', he was foot to the floor in second. Thats it then - no chance of catching up :(
-
Tis wierd. makes it feel quick, but not really my cup of tea. The rest of the car is pretty darn good though. Very comfortable. Really well screwed together. Lovely plush interior. Nice handling, if a bit sloppy, and superb grip :) And all the toys inside :)
-
I know you're C T is obviosuly a proper quick beasty mate, but isn't it possible that the ultima driver was giving it just enough beans to stay just ahead of you? This entire 'what have you beaten/what's beaten you' thing is sooooo open to inaccuracies. I mean most of the time, only one of the drivers actually knopws they're racing!! :) Still good comparison/chat/thread though :)

You should see the Stealt new VR6 running-in procedure!!! 500 miles at no more than 3000 revs Oil and filter change 500-1100 miles at no more than 3500 revs Then for each 100 miles increase max revs by 100 until you get to 5000 revs/2600 miles !!!!!!! It nearly killed me :)

I think the ratios in the 4motion are a bit TOO short. I guess it's cos it's a lard-a*se so needs all the help it can get to go quickly. Tis a bit odd in a 'GT' kinda car though. Nice all the same :)
-
That's a bold claim. The handling of your 4 pot rado was clearly better than a brand new TT? Really? I reckon maybe the bloke was a bit of a gaylord and didn't like corners. Those new TTs handle just fine.
-
I didn't mean literally! The concept is the same.....two "V" treads within the same shoulder to shoulder area... If you squint.. Double6's I was wondering too (been a Yoko man myself) till I bought some... They are damn good... Yeah I've never actually tried them mate. Lots of my mates with dubs have always raved about em, but from other people i've heard they're average. Same as everything I guess - depends what you like and what you're used to.
-
I don't want to risk it mate. French customs will undoubtedly pull my car apart again if I drive, so I'm limited to flying really :(
-
Mr Toad - any decent insurance nazi could invalidate your insurance for running 195s as it has deviated from factory/standard spec. Thats all the fekers need to screw you. What's with the Toyo obsession? I've always thought they were pretty much mid-range tyres? Nothing special are they?
