  1. potatonet, you lucky sod! 180 degrees out on the crank normally eats at least one valve... :|
  2. have a word with John Mitchell (16VG60 on this forum) he does a rather nice 1940cc conversion which kicks butt! He can also sort out all your porting and polishing needs too...
  3. Send Gav (H100VW) a PM if it's one of his looms... he'll help you solve this with no hassles... 8)
  4. potatonet, cam timing? or just timing on the distributor? It's only the cam timing that'll eat your valves... ;)
  5. ah, I wondered if I'd missed something from my write up... 8)
  6. WRONG! The G60 engine is an interference engine, get the timing wrong or drop too many teeth on the cambelt when it goes slack and valves WILL meet pistons... :( Having had one of these bolts effectively destroy my first G60 engine (3 valves and a piston damaged) at under 20mph while sat in traffic, I'm with Daz when he says to REPLACE THIS BOLT!!! 8) For the couple of quid the bolt and washer will cost you and the 20 mins to fit it, it could save you the cost of a new engine/ engine rebuild... makes sense really doesn't it?!? 8) The bolt should be replaced with one from a MKI Golf 1.8 GTI (DX engine code) which is NOT a stretch bolt, unlike the one in the G60 engine as standard. It's a direct replacement with only a small blob of thread lock and the washer needed to complete the replacement. The old bolt can be removed with a reasonable length ratchet by putting the car in gear and asking a mate to push like **** on the brake pedal as you loosen the bolt off. It really is THAT simple... 8)
  7. eh? cambelt tensioners are the same on just about all 8V VAG engines... go to either GSF or ECP and order one, they're peanuts to buy and they'll have loads of 'em in stock... 8) Sounds like your VAG parts man's been on something stronger than is legal... ;)
  8. you can still get that pipe from VAG (just got one for J-dub). The gearbox inspection bung is also available cheaply from VAG... 8)
  9. Yes, you need the tie bar. It IS important... OK, the plastic pipe that the CO pot goes in from the Corrado won't fit once you've fitted the Golf's intercooler, but you may be able to cut it up so that it will fit. I don't know if it's possible or not 'cos I used ALL of the golf pipework when I fitted mine. (and then replaced it all with BAR-TEK silicone and Alloy pipes after popping one of the rubber ones... ;) )

    Waterpump

yes (I see a theme coming on here!) I'll PM you later today when work's calmed down a little... ;)
  11. *runs off to find the 2 that are not fitted to J-DUB's engine...*
  12. Dear God, WHY?!?!?!?!?

    g60 lambda wiring

    bootsy, yup, that's Gav... 8)

    Waterpump

    yes, and yes...
  15. ah, live and learn... interesting... 8) I was right about it being important though! ;)
  16. GPC is probably your best bet 8) Hint - It's a clickable sentance! ;)

    Sunroof Relay

I'm pretty certain that the relay is part of the motor... :| It definately is on earlier cars, but I do know that they changed the motor design on later VR6s, so they may have put in an external relay too...
  18. umm... which engine? Oil pressure switches are dirt cheap from VAG (less then £15 IIRC) and I think that you can get 'em from GSF and ECP for less too! 8) Which breather filter? I can't think of a Corrado that had a breather filter on it as standard... ?| Any chance of a pic of the holes? could be just casting marks on the block?
  19. kongo127, you DO need the support bar, it's pretty important as it supports the Ubend and charger and stops it twisting under load... :| I suppose that you could cut the long one and have it welded back together to the correct length... :? The bits you need are: Ubend gasket[/*:m:8ac60] Ubend[/*:m:8ac60] Ubend bolt (M8x90)[/*:m:8ac60] Short support bar + bolts to suit[/*:m:8ac60] Rubber 90degree pipe + clips to suit[/*:m:8ac60] Intercooler[/*:m:8ac60] Rubber angled pipe + clips to suit[/*:m:8ac60] Plastic intercooler to throttle body pipe[/*:m:8ac60] You should be able to re-use the rubber hose that connects onto the throttle body and the plastic pipe, although I used the one that came with my Golf intercooler 'cos it was in better shape than mine was! Good luck!
  20. AFAIK gaskets are VAG only, but are nice and cheap. Just paper or card WON'T do as they're treated gaskets to make them stick properly and give a gas tight seal. Porting looks pretty good... 8) Stick one of the gaskets in place and then you can see exactly where to take more material off... ;)
  21. if you're getting the calipers second hand, then keep the banjo bolts that were fitted to them on the car you're getting them off. If you're buying them brand new, then you'll have to ask for banjo bolts to suit or source them elsewhere... As I said above, they're not expensive... 8)
  22. yup, Synta Silver for me every time... (unless I'm running in a new engine in which case I use a nice 10/40 mineral oil like Gav suggests 8) )
  23. yip,(well, mine did) nope,(should come with the pipes) and nope (wrong thread on the car end of the pipe) Ask C&R when you order them if they come with the banjo bolts, if they don't anymore then you'll need to buy a pair... they're not exactly expensive though! I bought the full kit from C&R (calipers and pipes) and got EVERYTHING needed to fit 'em to my Corrado. 8)
  24. um, if you use the dash illumination wire, the ambience LEDs will dim with the dash lights... Is that what you want to do? :?
