VR6 starts when cold, idles at 1500rpm for1 sec. then dies
Rams replied to stormseeker's topic in Engine Bay
Could it be a fuel starvation or something like that? Fuel pump? Sounds like the causes to me. When did you last do the fuel pump and / or fuel filter? -
Its around £68 or there abouts. I replaced mine 1 month ago due to the noise it made when spinning around on the belts. Its well worth doing. That price was a dealer price and if you're a member of the CCGB you get 10 % off the dealers.

cheesy, This bulb is definitely replacable at the dealers.I did mine as I though the panel wasnt as bright as it should be so obvious choice was try the bulb first. It is pennies, I believe its a bosche bulb and it is tiny. Call my local dealer if you like, Breeze VW- 01202 775000, ask for Parts.

I did have a similar problem . I kept re filling the expansion tank and wondered where all my coolant was going. I was told that the water pump union was tryoing to prize off the pipe as it gets dirty and a bit rusty. The drops were landing somewhere on the engine, cross member and thats all it was. Luckilyu my pump is still fine, but check that the pipe looks to be on there nicely. Run the car and place your hand under the pump or just check for leaks if the engine gets too hot.

Can anyone please help me with what I have to do. I take it I have to take off the door cards and undo the part the handle levers from? Do I have to mod it or not? I think when I read last time people were saying you have to do a samll mod and others say no problem or am I talking rubbish? I am at work now and have an hour to do it in so if anyone can help me know that would be great.

I had mine coloured coded, the body shop did it for free with the other work. It does look better I think, it makes teh car looker newer, Im also going to debadge the rear, take away the Corrado and VR6 badges and de seem it. I think it will give the C a tidier look and more moded. Theres some ideas for you mate!

PhilsLadyC, Hi there! I live in Charminster and always around that neck of teh woods or Bournemouth. What is the colour, reg of you car? I am going to be doing the brembo discs I think, or maybe Tarox, not sure yet.

how does that fuel pump not want to be parted with the fuel

Im sure you have to be a bit careful, they are under pressure arn't they! -
I have run the 205 40's and 215 40's, I think the 215's feel tighter with less kick back around corners, or sliding. The 205 feel abit crisper but sharpe to tail the rear end at similar speed to the 215 tyre.
-
I think that a 215 tyre or sol looks better than a 205 tyre, especially on a 7.5 Jay wheel. The traction is what you need to work with th esuspension set up you use. Darren, you must like the small but fat rims?
-
I run a 7 jay wheel with 215 40 17 tyres, so it gives good protection to the rim and feels nice and tight. Everything with modifying has to be within tollerence. i.e the C came with 15" rims as standard, well I know the G60 and VR's do, so going up 2 sizes for comfort and haniling seems like its enough for the C. Anyone with bigger rims will loose a bit of feel, a bit of power and the car wount handle as well as lets say a car on 16" rims. Agin, to get a comprimise between looks and handiling is always going to be tough if not exactly achievable. I would say that there won't be much in it between.5 of a jay, but I could be wrong. Sorry if I didnt answer your question fully, I may have done :D

john_wintle, Hi, it is like a normal car was in terms of bringing up a shine and smooth finish. I mean, do you just use it as a normal polish?

Thanks for the info, sounds fair enough.Im not cussing your mate that went to the mobil 1 HQ but if he had gone to Castrol or Quantim etc HQ he would have come back very impressed. I know Mobil 1 is a great oil company and I have read article on cars running on Mobil 1 and still going strong. The oil grades are read like this for people who dont know. For Eg. 15 / 50, the 15 part of the number is the viscosity, the 50 part of the number is the temperature the oil thins out at. If im wrong im sure I will get a response? VR6 Storm? Joke :D

You better off wrapping sealed plastic bags around the electrics and getting it seamed cleaned with th eengine running a constant revs to ensure no water gets in. Make sure you cover everything, it will take a while but the preparation is the key. Once that is all done, get a mate to sit in th ecar and rev gently but constantly while you use an engine cleaner, there areproducts like traffic film remover and degreasers, use all of them. I used the auto glym engine cleaner and mainly concentrate on the chassis legs and inner bonnet and slam panel and around the edges of the engine frame. Avoid direct aim with import electrical parts for 100 knowledge that your main parts dont get water logged. Then dry off, and keep the engine running to help dry up the water and get your misses toothbrush and glean all the small bits and give it another pressure / steam bath and dry and you should have a nice clean safe engine. What do you think to that suggestion??

They are around 12 followers, which will cost you in the region of £100 / £150. Will make your engine sound smooooooth 8)

Oil sticks to the parts, it doesnt glue the oil to the pistons etc, it simply attratcs oil to the metal on start up giving extra protection! If you have 2 oils, one that sticks to your engine straight away on start up and one that doesnt, there is a higher chance of engine damage with the oil that takes longer. Let me see what info I can get from Castrol and we can compare the results. I am not argueing with you, I just have a difference of ipinion. :D

Great stuff! Thanks mr fruit!

Hi mate Is that rear difuser from a BMW by any chance? M3 Coupe? I was thinking about something similar for my C.
-
Hi all I found a scrapy yeard that has a mark 4 passat 94', does anyone know if these will fit my C? The mark 4 is the facelift and the door as slightly different. Alternatively, if anyone know of a good scrappy that may have earlier ones that are sure to fit - please let me know?
-
kevhaywire, Fair point mate, however, the oil will flow around all the galleries whilst sticking / protecting the pistons etc. They must have an additive to be able to give better protection from the initial start up. I will do some investigating with Castrol, and try and get some clean facts. I was worned away by the parts manager who is heavily into modifying his Golf VR6 and he sware by magnatec and he uses it and he said the VW workshop use it in the cars they service. Check the price of teh vw oil, it seems cheap to me and if VW are recommending it, they must be able to tell the difference with many ebgines once they have asked the customer what oil they use and see the condition of the engine when maybe doing some engine related work. Like I said, its not a huge difference, but you made it sound like it clogs the engine when it doesnt. :D

Rpmayne, I would only buy a VW headgasket not from a secondry supplier that way you have piece of mind that the quality is good. Lets face it, you dont want the job to be done again!! The price from VW is £75 so not much in it for the best fit gaskets and if you sell the car it looks better than something as majour as the head has parts from VW for the job! IMO

Sound ok to me. If the car you want is a corrado then straight away have in your mind that the sunroof will need attention. Even if you buy one that works, it will break. There are loads of discussions and ways to fix the problem and the parts dont mount up to that much for it. When was the cars last service? Do all the papers tally up? Call VW with the reg number and they can do a check on the car from their database and tell you exactly when the car was serviced and general info, i.e colour code, engine type etc. The ABS, I would agree that it could be a sensor, have you driven the car? Do the brakes try and bite when driving slowly without touching the pedal or when lightly braking? Meaning, does the car brake more than you are applying on the brakes? The join - ask VW what this is and what it would cost to fix, your note didnt say it was a problem as such, so it could be a midification? Oil seals, again all cars will suffer from this, the fact you know now will ensure that your car doesnt blow up if this is all mechanically sound. You have also made a good choice of engine IMO, you will enjoy the everyday drive teh VR gives and just be ware that fuel on these babies is not cheap. Its not too tragic but heavy. The car really wants to be run on Shell Optimax at all times to ensure accurate Bhp figures and for good cleaning of the engine and fuel lines. If optimax is un obtainable then a super plus or 97 / 98 ron will suffice with no problems. Get the wheel bearings checked and the compression of the engine, the place that is MOT your car could do this for you and say you will throw him a £10ner. That way, all your main hot spot areas are covered! Last point, there are others out there so dont rush buy as when you get the Corrado you will be hooked like all of us nutters on here and you will get the mod bug and your life will start to revolve around your car so it is advisable to get a nice girlfriend with bug knockers to take your attention away! Only kidding, hope your car works out to be sound! Excuse my terrible typing, I always make errors!!

Its not a bad idea, VW sell the stuff and woulnt sell rubbish oil for their engines. Im sure there isnt a massive difference ecspecially if you take car with the rev range from when you start your engine from cold. The magnetec is supposed to cling onto you moving mechanical parts very quickly, well that is their moto on advertising, '' your engine is protected from the moment you turn the key''. Your best bet is to change the oil more regulary, I have just thought of it like a hair cut, nice, clean and feeling fresh and ready to get the ladies!
