Mate, the CC has no real function as they need to be changes after a period to maintain emmisions. Its is simply restricting points for air feeds. Its up to you obviously if you want to keep it or not. If you are looking at the engione bay, its to the left, remove this cover and you will see a gap way. If you pierce the air ducting with something sharpe you can tie wrap the ducting to something i.e the grill at the bottom of the bumper. I have actually just moved the CC in front of the alternator on my VR as I need to keep the CC valve connected as it affected the starting of my engine. Now I have to simply connect the wire, keeping the valve in place and remove the large CC. Your filter needs as much direct air as possible, cool air I might add so your best bet is to go where the CC is kept. That way you are far away from hot mechanical parts and if your worried about the CC just move it iether into the wing a Crazyman did and its kept up right or where I moved it too, all you have to do is extend the pipes to move the CC to another place. Your point about the CC and VW putting it there for a reason is the same seniro as the air box so its just an extra modification for you. I was worried untill I had expert advise on it and my car drives the best its ever driven with out the CC due to extra air! Every little helps. To get your car put on the rollers is up to you, if you havent done it already then I would, purely for curiosity. The filter will never gives big BHP increases, and dont be fooled by the companies that say they give you 15 BHP increase as a few grand spend would give you that sort of increase. You're on the right tract with the basics anyway. Another point to make is if you cut the plastic vents away from the bottom of your bumper, and mesh it, the air flows through the meatal better than through the plastic as their is less friction.
-
there is a cover next to the left fan which allows you to channel air up through th ebottom of the bumper. All you have to do is remove the plastic guard a couple of screws and thats it. Te best way is to remove the carbon canister that sits in the inner wing and direct some ducting up there straight into your system. again, simple to do, you just need to link the piping correctly as one of these is the fule vapour return. The other goes to a valve. Let me know if you want help, I will show you pics if you want.

engine cuts out in traffic after engine temp reaches 112+
Rams replied to thinksmart's topic in Engine Bay
I am certainly no genuis, but to me it would sound like an electrical problem. My theory is that when the temp reaches that limit, the fans would normally come on and start to cool your engine, maybe this connection that normally turns the fan on is cutting something short, firstly to make your car continue to rise in temperature and as a sagety net to not blow your engine up. I could be way off but it does sound logical in a way. Obviously, make sure you have checked your water level and coolant and that you aren't leaking anything. Something could be getting really hot and braking down, lets see what other people think and if they are connected with my theory. Hope you find the problem, you will in the end! -
There is a tensioner near the gearbox are that is well worth changing whilst the hgearbox is off. Replace the gearbox mount too if its hasnt already been done. Give it a good clean up too, never hurts 8)

marksvr6, even though the wheel bearing feels tight? Ps, It was from the accident why I had to change everything. It must be nearly brand new!! I will give it a try, it seems logical, maybe the bruit force of the accident has damaged it. Wheels bearings arnt that expensive, so I will do boyth fronts and see if that cures it. If anyone else thinks they may know then keep the e mails comming - thanks for your help - all 8)

Mate, I just re newed my insurance, I am 21, with one year noclaims, all mods declared, cat 1 alarm and immobilizer, 1378 TPFT with Adrian Flux, I was with HIC and they wanted £1600 plus, I would have had 4 years no claims, but I have a pending claim which I am still trying to win, but if I do they then refund me back the difference.

The noise doesnt sound like its a real bad noise, it doesnt make a noise at all at low speeds turning right, it does when turning left, if you are driving faster steering right, the noise seems like its a higher pitch. Not as deep, just quieter and higher pitch. The diff, is that gearbox related? I did have someone say to me that my gearbox made funny noises when we had teh car running up on the ramp, but the noise started and then went away and back again so I hope its not. I have spent nearly 3 grand on this C from new pannels and full re spray, new head gasket, new wheels, springs, brakes, all mechanical parts from everything underneath, new steering wheel, tyres, grill, headlights fog lights so I hope the diff isnt going or im going to burst a blood vessel. My cltch need done, and one tensioner so I hope that was the problem with the gearbox, im sure it is but I hope other people can say it could be something else. What happened to you? How much did it cost to put right?

I think the term for it is opaque, not sure on spelling, but large american companies have it where they have function room or meeting room and when the are using over head projectors etc they can flick a switch and they change the glass where you cant see out off. It is very expensive, you can even have your company logo etc on the glass to show your prospective new clienyts that you know your stuff! I like the idea of making the copper go senile!! That would be a classic, - what are you chatting about mr officer, theres nothing wrong with my car so can I go now or do I have to report you for harrasiment. I have used a racial comment that was thrown at me by an officer once as I am half eqyptian, I am not dark but just have dark hair and eyes etc and AI said to him to be fair with me or I would report him for racial harrasment and it always works. Because the police have very srong laws on racism, plus I was actually stopped when I was 18 in my K plate G60 4 sometimes five times a day for just checks and they never believed that the car was mine and though I was into drug dealing and left me standing with 2 mates by the side of teh road with my seats out and carpet and left me there to put it all back in! They found nothing naturally, but I thoought that was a point I could use again wen they acted unreasonably. The next time I was spoken to by an officer was when I had a funny looking mate that had an escourt XR31 and we were cruisng tghe streets in our younger days like you do and we got pulled over. By law, if your not the driver you dont have to give them your details unless they arrest you. So it was my turn to annoy the police, he poked his head through the window and asked me what my name was after getting the drivers deatils and I said to him im not telling you, he replied, why, arte you hidding anything, I replied no, just I know that I dont have to give you my detials. They got me out of the car and started to search me and acused me on being on drugs and I said I have never touched drugs in my life, he made me take my tee shirt off and mind you it was ranning so I said to him, when you're done just give the your collar numbers as I have been to see your chief inspector and he said if im hassased to take their numbers down and report it to me. As soon as I told them that they left me alone, one officer tried to walk back to his car and he was the one that had been most lippest to me and I said, come back, I need your number too and we will see what your chief says! Wicked, everything was dropped, and we were left to carry on doing what we were doing. So for those who do get into difficultie, try and use it if you are foreign or could get away with it! I am not being unfare, but you can get officers who are out of line like they were to my gfather who is definitely darker!
-
You have saved yourself the money it would cost painting them up, so if they are in good nick I would say thats a fair price. You need mirrors as you dont want some idiot escourt running up the side of you so £100 for a saftey feature cant be bad. :D

Its like a metal sort of noise, more like a metal sort of whining, like something has no oil or lubricant in in, maybe its the CV boot grease has dried up? The boot is fine and no signs of oil leakage, but its an avenue I havent tried.
-
If you can crack this one I would be a happy bunny, When im turning into my drive way I can hear it perfectly, even if im in a car park and steering round to the next lane it makes the weird noise. I have had new wishbones, new anti roll bar, with new bushes and ball joints and top mounts and tir rod ends, so you could say that all of the under neath is new! Im sure that when I have the window down going right round a rounabout the noise sounds like its going quicker and not as loud, just a higher pitch and faster revolutions. Any ideas guys? The only thing I havent changed is the wheel brearings but they feel fine when you wiggle the wheel, well there is no movement. I did have an accident that took most of the force on that wheel and side so I guess its in that area and thats where the noise sounds like its comming from. I have even had a new power steering pump I will check anything you chaps recommend as I want to get it sorted by the weekend then my C will be problem free, well apart from the sunroof, but its not going to defeat me

My paint code is LC3Y, just checked the car :)
-
Is it definitely ok for the pump to be working whilst the car is turned off? I would have thought this dangerous and the pressure is not being realised. Or is it. My mates yellow G60 does it and I though it would have been a relay problem, as it would stop then start after a few minutes as so on. If its definitely safe and what they are supposed to do then I will inform my mate that its ok.
-
Did he ask you for your reg number the time he said the paint code in the car was incorrect. They are very similar at a glance but the trained eye can tell the difference. Did you look at the original picture as this is a true colour as my friend changed the second immage to make it look a bit more radical. What does the paint code on the inside of your boot say? I am off to check mine and I will let you know.

AAIGHT, If you are TPFT you dont have to pay the AA for recovering you from an accident, providing its on the road, or near teh highway then you will be fine. If your fully comp, they re claim it back through your insurance company. I had an accident and they said I would get an invoice for 6o quid or something and at the time I didnt care, I just wanted the car taken to the body shop and parked outside so he had to make a start on it to be able to get into his work shop!! If you did pay it, try and claim it back if it wasnt that long ago, or remember for next time, but there wont be a next time ey! :D

Hi mate If you have a look at my car, the original picture in members gallery, this is the colour I think your on about. I just had a full re spray and they said my car had 2 colour shades on the same code, from memory LC3Y, I will have a look in my lunch break. But the colour of my car used to be a lighter shade, more of a wishy washy colour and we decided to go woth the darker colour and it looks much deeper and much nicer. Just a thought. If you call a VW dealer and give them yoiur registration number they can bring up all your cars details and that includes the colour code and chassis number, who the car belonged too etc, etc. Providing your car isnt on a private plate then you should be fine,

Cool, I will give it a go! :D

Just a point mate, they dont make the new bmw in a 323, all the model ranges are either 318. 320, 325, 330, M3. So it could have been a 323 or 320 if it was on a old number plate style. :D I import cars! :D

Andi, If you put 17's on a c then the car is higher off the ground, normally the tyre sixe on 17 inch rims is 205 / 215 / 40 /17 so 2 inches bigger than the standard wheel and the profile on the standard wheel is 50 comapred to a 40 on the 17's so it must be higher. The arch gap may not be that much different, but the height off the ground is noticible. Some C's have higher suspension than others so if his car is one of those I think its the later C's then its going to look silly IMO. I already suggested a 25 / 30 mm, so it still looks fairly standard and with better handling. Air con - is a big job, there is a lot of work to do but I would do the job as my friend is an engineer in this department and said he would fit it for free if I buy the system. Obviously you just have to turn it off when you want the extra power, but I did the same, I cooked on the way back from Kent and just thought how nice would it be to be cool! 8)

Hi there The wheels sizes you state are absolutely fine, you can even go bigger and wider. The bigger wheels will make the car sit even higher, IMO it will silly as when I put 17's on my VR it looked too high and spoit the look, eibach do a 25 30 mm progressive spring and that will take the edge of the height and still give you a really comfortable ride. I will be selling mine as I want the car to be even lower so you can have mine which are only a few moths old and will be fine on your car. If you look at Members gallery, click on the Vintage port VR6 and thats mine where its on the eibach springs, or buy a new set. The eibach springs are a progressive rate spring hence keeping your ride comfort. The idel could be due to a dirty air stabilazion valve which is always causing problems. All you have to do is give it a good clean with a carb cleaner and see how you get on. Make sure the polugs if they have nipples that they are screwed on tight as the heat expands the plugs slightly and may work th enipples loose so make sure they are nipped up. Secondly, make sure the leedsa re on tight, I had a problem with the quantim leeds vw supplied me as I have just had my headgasket done and the leeds are slightly lubricated and they may pop off the connection. I just kept clicking them on again and the heat from the engine has taken the edge off the lubrication and they are fine. It has stopped arcking. Check for noises or sparking at night. I take it that you got a new dizzy cap and rotar arm? Then check the coil pack for cracks. There is a way that you can check it if you get some spray mist and at night, spray the coil pack and see what it does. Most VR suffer from coil pack problems. Crazy man on here filled the cracks with araldite for now and it has helped, his was always at low speeds when he had problems. Your best bet is to change it if its faulty, but when its all running you will feel that the car pulls hard all the way through the gears and having th eengine in tip top shape then you should have a spot on engine. Also air piping is essential that its all connected properly and that you have no air leeks. If you check that and you have problems then cry and ask a chap called kevhaywire about sensors. His knowlege is very good on VR's. :D The wheels on your car, would look sweet if they are the standard VR6 storm alloys if you get them highly polished and it will keep the storm look but with an advantage. That would look sweet IMO. Have fun! If you try all of that and still have problems it could be the actual distributer, or the coil or air flow meter, but these checks I have mentioned earlier are you best bet to start with. Please excuse all bad grammer and spelling, I type to quickly and use a lap top so the keys are closer together for errors. 8)

Mate, I do know someone that can get a good deal on tiny cameras to install in the car and linking it to the screen is a good idea. The rear of the C is a bitch to see what you are doing, I always just adjust my mirrors when parking or look to see if the car reflects on a shop window. The alpine system you can add sat Nav to it, for a price mind you but there are extras. Kenwood do a touch screen which is supposed to be quite trick so I may check the prices against them both. If the headunit was mounted as normal the top of the screen should be that much higher than vents?

The radar systems are now legal to use, they discovered that the detectors were slowing people down where there was a black spot or bad areas were there are lots of accidents. Now, all of our gatso - speed cameras have to be painted bright yellow or refective yellow sop you can see them. They figured that this method would save lives and reduce black spots. The law knows everyone speeds, its just catching the driver! :D You may find that your law changes mate. In the UK they used to be legal to buy and illegal to use!! How stupid is that! Thats why they changed the rules and I am due to buy a detector called road angle which operates all the GPS services and are proven to be very good.
-
It was Henny, that was saying its illegal to have the screens on. I am cool with what can and cant be done. The apline headunit means I can just use the stereo as a normal headunit and dont have to display videos when im driving for the police to see, except for the general change of track and that display. All nme cars such as BMW and Mercedes if they have the sat nav option then you can see maps and diagrams but it wont allow you to watch TV when on the move. :D
-
Henny, If you put the screen on the dash regardless weather its turned on or not, it still obstructs your field of vision.
