  1. top work mate looking realy good! and it must be loads harder having to do all your work outside :)
  2. i dont think im gunna smooth the bay out im gunna get rid of a few unused holes but i dont wanna relocate the battery washer bottle etc,so il leave the bay smoothin to you :D hows yours goin was looking good when i saw it? just got a set of g60 brakes for now my 16v ones were nowt like upto stopping it. i had a cheap battery leak acid and so the tray realy needs a repaint and so do the subframes so was as easy to whip the engine out. still cant decide what colour to paint it:?
  3. made a start on the front cards so the interior is nearly there now :) then i got the offer of a good nick audi 80 at a price i had to buy so now thats it as a daily driver for the rado, so iv decided to get it all sorted so i took the engine out this morn and started to clean all the bay down ready for a change of colour and get the subframes off and cleaned up so now im gunna do a full rebuild on the rest of it. shud give me time to get the dash out now and trim that along with the brakes iv got sat around. still tryin to decide what colour to paint it :?
  4. cheers gettin there slowly. if i do the dash and it comes out well il save the patterns. i struggle for time at the mo but when its finished if it looks right i may beable to help you out mate.
  5. bout £250 for a machine yea ebay or freeadds needs to be a walking foot one i tryed a normal one but youd struggle to do the over stitching and you cant use a heavy enough thread, the hides are 60 quid ish each or ya can get it per sq ft depends what hide ya want realy, i mite use say 5 so i can sell the machine on after so its a fair bit cheaper than havin it done, i also like to try do everthing myself instead of sending it for doin, you can get hides on ebay i just got the suede there and spray glue. and then just practice lots of it and drive around in a stripped out car with one seat for a few month bit noisey but with only one seat its alot faster :) the funny bit is by the time i finish the last part i recon if i did it all agin i could get it all perfect ends up like an addiction im just gunna go back and do a bit of body work again next . the problem with doin anything yourself is ya notice all the imperfections lol.

    .

looks top notch mate! love the colour shud buff up mint :)
  7. i havnt got as far this week i got a bit stuck as i couldnt fix anything in untill i did the roof liner. the leather is a bit thick to form the shape of the roof so it would have taken me a while to do it in a few pieces so i went for brown suade. and i got one half of the rear seat back done the built in headrest is a pain to get right. on to the other rear seat half now. :) im not a big ice fan but i think im gunna do a bit of a build in the boot i shud have enough leather left after the dash. im on the look out for sum 16x9ish wheels now and use myn for winter they only did 2 winters before the laqure has blisterd a few bits to toutch up then il make a few shows :)
  8. the hide is from martrim mate. and yea its a seiko walking foot machine i modded a bit of pvc tube to limit the clutch but its still taken me a good two months and i mainly used cardboard and stitched that untill i could use it but they are hard to use especialy when they go so fast. lol suppose this thing has to take sum of the credit :)
  9. il run ya through the carpet mate when i cum over for the bonnet :)
  10. top work mate one of my next jobs is to repaint the bay along with the underside. love the wheels they realy are goin to make it! :)
  11. well over the last month iv still been goin at it,but this is very hard to get right alot of credit shud go to retrimmers but finaly iv masterd the sewing machine and after 3 scraped hides and alot of practice im finaly gettin the results i was after all the parts in the pics before now im redoin again they just wernt perfect i dont like the sag. iv had to put a new carpet in not an easy task to get the right shape but its gettin there and now im doin every plastic part theres alot of work in the tunnel :D this has been far far harder than when i put the tt lump in thats still goin strong one year on without a single problem inbetween as a daily driver :D :) the next thing is to get the last parts of the rear seat done the base in the pic isnt tight enough so im gunna go for that again and then go for the parcel shelf and dash shud keep me goin :) interior so far not happy with the slack in the rear base so im gunna have another go as that was a first attempt when i didnt have any control over the sewing machine clutch :) these parts have nothing to make a pattern so i have to do them in paper to make a pattern first so its slow but worth it i think:) finaly happy with this base at last. half way through a rear card another tricky part nearly there the leathers so thick im just goin to buy a dremmel type tool to take a bit of plastic away so it all folds under and fits right. so a fair few more tins of spray glue and i shud be gettin there :)
  12. it looks like i need to make a bracket now to fit the rear seat armrest as iv got another back seat so i can swap my flat rear bench. doesnt look like the bracket is welded in to my car, something else to sort out :?
  13. it looks like due to me been a bit of a perfectionist im gunna waste one hide but other than that its goin well,im gunna do new carpets and leather everthing :D :D so heres the first seat parts, just need to get a new pack of hog rings to fit the covers properly and get them pulled on tight.
  14. so after the conversion has been running fine since march and nearly having to sell the car last month but i managed to get round that. so now the interior is letting it down. so now i decided i need some leather so i was looking at second hand but realy i need a new one so i could just pay and have it done but seen as i did all the work myself so far it seems like i shud learn to sew and do it myself so thats what im gunna do :D already after a fair bit of practice on scrap parts and buying a second hand industrial leather sewing machine and a load of cow skin my seats are under way :D
  15. nice work mate!! could i ask what make ya strut brace is? i want one for myn but wasnt sure if one would fit or what to try, yours just looks a little tight to the boost pipe,if ya know the make of it i mite give one a try. cheers :D keep up the great work :D
  16. nice work mate,i feel for you when i first got myn running i found the turbo was leaking oil past a seal,so i sent it for recon not cheap then it failed 300 miles later sent back payed again same thing failed again,so then bought a new turbo all in all it cost me a fortune but since then its run for a year and never missed a beat. stick with it be worth it in the end :D i put myn in a 1995 valver if you didnt find ya fan wiring or any wiring answers pm me i shud beable to help ya
  17. i used the same one when i put my 20vt lump in you shud just need a cat bypass i just made one up :)
  18. if ya qpeng then on the mbe unit to ya origional ecu wire. i mite beable to tell ya what colour wire it was on myn but myns a 1995 16v :) it was green and blue that runs myn if you have one left :)
  19. i have a 225 apx engine in myn running qpeng ecu with 2 stage boost so i run 180bhp ish while driving to work etc so i get good mpg then flick a switch gives 270bhp then it shifts on, so best of both. its great to drive altho on full in the wet it cant put the power down it does in the dry. with a standard 2.0 16v box and vw clutch. dont regret any bit of it i did use samco hoses and jointers etc so i built it to be reliable by not using any cheap parts. starts runs fine only problem i had was a company did a bad recon job on my turbo as it was leaking a bit of oil past the seals. after the recon it only did 300 miles so i ended up with a brand new one other than that myns fine :)
  20. 5k in last 12 months no labour appart from tracking at kwikfit tt engine 2 wasted recon turbos new turbo qpeng stuff paint wheels samcos loads of em rad, fan, pump etc etc thats the first time iv ever added it up  and now 300 quid in hide may aswell retrim it myself now lol diy :) wonder how mutch id have spent if i didnt do it all mysen :)
  21. as an update both the recons were done by aet turbos. i bought a brand new unit 1200 miles ago and now run the afterrun pump and its goin as strong as ever. so if nobody uses the after run pump then was it the recon? the turbo was fitted as the instructions etc and no different to the new one all bled etc. so either the pump does work and is needed or becarefull who you get ya turbo recond with either way its running fine at the waste of £700 in recon turbo work :)
  22. sling ya sen a tt enigne in and give it a bit more boost, you can have a good laugh with tt owners then :D
  23. if any one can help heres what i need to do. i have a 12v live for 10 mins on ignition off. it runs my pump and fan for 10 mins. this is fine. what i need to do is run my pump on ignition on but not my fan. at the mo if the pump runs so does the fan. i also need the 12v feed to not get power from the 12v ignition off 10 mins when the ignition is off. if you get me? so in simple terms it shud be pump and rad on for 10 mins on ignition off using existing wire. and just pump constantly on on 12v igniton on.
