  1. thanks :) i cant wait to get it finished it will have been in bits for 2 years by the time iv finished. it turned out to be a good choice to bare metal it i found rust under the factory sealant and other strange places, the first time i just give it a quick blow over so hopfully it will be worth the effort.
  2. thanks :) just flatting the primer down and working on the doors etc i need a garage too i if it was just outside in a garage id get so much further i could just get the odd hour in but its at my parents so i have to go over to it. it has kinda turned in a realy big job to say it was running perfect when i stripped it,but now i know the whole car is rust free especialy the subframes etc they were starting to get realy bad.
  3. on with the etch primer and primer.
  4. cheers :) its a big job getting there very slowly. bit closer to paint :D removing any tiny rust spots and all the paint is a slow job.
  5. well finaly finished my house loft conversion so im back on the car, finished the underside, got the lot back to bare metal now exept the doors, just orderd the paints so not long and il be painting it :)
  6. ah myn was a plug and play kit so myn must be in the loom somewhere already then, altho im sure myn reads under temp anyway, glad ya got it sorted. :)
  7. nice work mate looking good! dunno if this helps, if ya mbe im pretty sure ya temp gauge shud just work as is, myn does, unless the 225 engines temp sensor is different then yours shud work. someone else may confirm but i thought ya only need a resistor if ya use vag ecu.
  8. havnt got so mutch done been fixing the 2nd one,new blower fan, water pump died and fixed various other little bits. so now im back on with the rebuild. started to paint engine bits up and the box ready to get the engine back in. dead pump water leak had to get that changed. cleaned the heat shields up with a wire brush in the drill and got those back on the underside with new clips. ran the rest of the brake lines so there all done. next job another coat of paint on the box then a good clean, put all the painted parts on the engine, put the engine back in get it running, wire brush the exhaust back up then il do the body. also picked these up to mirror polish,2 8s and 2 7s but im gunna look for another pair of 8s. donated the lenso wheels to the daily but i cant lower it even tho il have a spare set of coil overs as it wont go over the speed humps to the girlfriends work :( il lower the other twice as mutch to compensate for that one been on stilts :D i shud realy get a camera instead of using my phone as these pics are poor, but i keep buying cars and parts instead.
  9. i miss driving myn too mate thats why i got a second one lol, stick with it mate i never feel like im getting anywhere, but do it all do it once :) looking good
  10. looking from the front or in the car mate? either way this is myn i havnt changed it from the standard one, it does miss the engine cover if this helps without mods, this is the one in myn. as ya can see a pipe comes out the bottom and one on the rear left as we look at it, looks like a diff version to the one above, myn has abs but wouldnt know if there not the same on a g60 etc. hope that helps.
  11. myn doesnt toutch it nearly does, im 99% sure my master cylinder isnt the same as that and that the pipes come out the bottom mate theres no bits stuck out like that if that makes sense. but the car isnt at my house myn was a 1995 2.0 16v if it stops raining il go look at my other rado a 93 2.0 16v outside and see what thats like.
  12. after my girlfriend cant drive the mk1 cab without powersteering iv decided to move it on,altho i did realy like it i need to find it a new home. so heres rado number 2,so many good but rusty or dirty parts have come off rado 1 it made sense to get another and use the bits. so i found it on here another 2.0 16v needs a bit of tlc and the usual matrix, heater controls ,ignition switch, door handle and some other bits. cant wait to do another heater matrix  :D so thanks joanne i know you were sad to see it go!
  13. thanks guys! when i look at the pics it seems to take ages to make any headway :)
  14. cant beat a bit of rust ,i ran them coilovers for 3 years well worth the price. good luck with it :D i like ya wheels.
  15. thanks mate thats how it normaly ends up lol managed to get the old bushes out and the new ones in,i didnt have the vw tool so i had to make do with a normal puller but it worked out ok. got the beam back on with all new bolts etc. got the tank cleaned up and back on. got a roll of cupro nickle brake pipe and borrowed a flaring tool not sure if its mutch better than copper but it seems harder to bend etc. started to make all the new brake lines not sure why there sutch a wierd shape but it made for a bit of fun trying to bend them all. just gonna clean all the fuel pump housing up now then the rear end is nearly done.
  16. very nice mate love the inside :D
  17. this mite not help but the vw hard lines are 10x1 metric thread,ya can also get an imperial size close to this, maybee ya flexis are not metric. my local autofactor makes hard lines and has all the fittings if you have some place close like that you could go try an imperial male fitting in ya hose.
  18. got my parts from vw now :) removed any rust and resealed then painted the underside. finished the beam just need to pull the bushes out and fit the new ones.
  19. thanks!! not quite the trimmer it took me a fair while and a fair few wasted attempts at it altho its coming together iv been at it for 6 months but the car isnt at my house so its taking longer. the worst job by far is cleaning and derusting everything the car must be 20kg lighter the amount of mud and rust thats come off it or fallen on my head and in my eyes cos i cant roll it over the garage isnt wide enough i have to do it all laid under it :)
  20. are ya flexi in the whole car? looks nice mate i feel for just how mutch time goes in to cleaning all the parts up etc, ya dont think about it untill ya do it ya sen or just how many bolts ya have to get if ya swap out every rusty one. what did ya do with all the bolts for the subframes etc i cant find them in stainless, some i have and some i cant did ya get vw ones coated or just put them in as is? seen ya had some bits re coated, i bought loads a new vw ones (not cheap) im just wondering if i shud get them re coated before i put them in or just never get the car wet :? i mite be getting a clean car disorder :) like the carriers and seats did ya make them all ya sen? top work!
  21. iv had a bit more spare time so im gunna get on with a bit more. got the rear beam off and stripped down and orderd new genuine bushes bearings etc etc. orderd all the bolts to replace every rusty bolt on the car spent near £200 on bolts and tiny clips alone at vw :( started to grind all the rust off ran out of paint half way through the beam. tank straps have seen better days. cleaning all the dirt off ready to remove any rust and then repaint it all i have now dropped the pump and fuel lines off tho probo not a great idea to grind all the rust off near that. found my first hole that needs welding up altho im not a painter or trimmer i dont mind them bits but im a welder for a job so was hoping i wouldnt have to do too mutch looks like i got away lightly this is all i found on the whole shell,so il bring a welder from work and tig that up.. collecting some more paint today and all the parts from vw to rebuild the rear end tmrw. :)
  22. i just cut the split rubber off the edge with a stanley, doesnt look too bad,im just welding my hole up for the aireal,im tempted to smooth the roof but i think it will cause some serious warping and im a welder, so i may leave it thats probo why many dont fill them. cud cut them off and try it.
  23. looking good mate cleaning all the parts is a right pain :) are you still hoping to get it to vw festival im not sure im gunna be finished in time.
  24. very clean,top work mate :)
  25. yea il throw some more pics up,im still goin at it. not as mutch as id like tho it doesnt look like il make vw festival in the rado. big thanks to the parts guys at whiterose vw too for helping me find every clip and bolt even when iv been spending like 10p at times. its slow goin removing derusting and recoating every part alot more time than ya would think, but the main paint work wont take too long. im now working on the rear end and painting the gear box up il get more pics. now iv had the front subframes coated. goodridge hoses came and many many other parts all new. subframes recoated new wishbones balljoints splash plates for the discs etc etc think im gunna be replacing the coilovers so i havnt done them. any rust ground out then re underseald bits, then 3 or 4 coats of gloss white on the front half of the shell now front seats look pretty good now for a diy job altho a few attempts before went in the bin
