got a bit more done. ordered all the remaining parts from vw a pair of complete headlights windscreen and all the trims soundproofing sunroof seal and a load more bolts and clips started to sort a carpet so the interior can go in,went down to the carpet shop and found one, then i test sewed some leather on as binding to check it would sew on ok, so then i can make the carpet in a few sections as it wont bend, that turned out well so i ordered 20mtrs of vinyl carpet binding from a car carpet place and put that on the edges just need to do a few more sections.

the glass and seal are bonded in to the car, you must cut the glue without damaging any of the seal as this is part of the window the seal and glass are one unit you cannot split them. if the seal gets damaged its useless. but if your in leicester and i cant find one i would have to drive down unless you think you can get it out. cheers tim

hi do you have the strip that the headliner slots into next to the windscreen? they are hard to get off so i broke myn. thanks -
got all the brakes fitted and bled my front panel came back from blasting so i sprayed the remaining bits dismantled my diy spray booth and started to build it up. new roof strips etc had to get this 1/4 glass out then bond it in to my car,cut all the way round took me ages then at the last inch of glue i some how broke it so i am now on the search for another. The glass has been the worst thing about this whole build so far iv broken one windscreen and 2 right rear 1/4s so i dont recon id be any good working for autoglass.

i need a right rear 1/4 glass,if you have one in a car your breaking and will have a go at cutting it out,if not i can cut this out myself but closer to yorkshire the better let me know if you can help. cheers

been busy painting i wasnt happy with the body i got too mutch dust in it and could still see it very faintly after flatting and buffing i dont think il be in any rush to rebuild any more cars after this one so i did it all again and took the time to build the garage out like a proper booth over the last couple of months .i got my sen a load of fans to get some air moving then i decided to wait till it warms up so the paint would tack off quicker , so now we final got some warm weather i got back on it,re did the shell then moved on to the doors etc.i must have got some better airflow through the garage i had minimal dust and and the extra time spent been super clean paid off, trying to get a show standard paint job in a garage hasnt proved easy. after everything i have done to this body i cant see how any company could do this amount of work to the same standard unless i had paid rediculous amounts, removing any rust from the whole shell has taken ages so im glad i did it my self and didnt send it away for respray. nearly there now the front panels just at the sand blasters and i have just orderd all the remaining parts from vw more bolts bits of trim new calipers etc etc.

love the cab mate i would have kept myn if the gf could have coped turning it with no power steering, although the leon is far easyer to drive daily :) i thought about pulling my arches for about a year,in the end i wanted it to look as they are so i was goin to cut it higher and keep the folded part and put a stip inbetween. in the end i like it as they are and i realy didnt want to put much filler on the body if any incase it sinks,so now il have to settle for narrower wheels. :)

Don't put antifreeze in your oil!! I thought it would stop my oil turning in to cola slush puppy when it gets realy cold :D
-
my g60 finally started on it. bare shell rebuild.

thanks all :) just changed the oil and filled it with antifreeze. im now waiting for the abs sensors and reardiscs and bearings to get it rolling. also made a start on covering the rest of the roof parts heres the interior light holder, now need to do the sunvisors next. one of the door cards wasnt right so i started to stip an old one down to re do it.

got most of it wet sanded and buffed think i mite do the bonnet again due to a bit of dust but i will get the car built up first. roof reflection after a clean and started to rebuild it,the dash goin back in. need to find a carpet now think it will be brown bound with all the leather off cuts.
-
thanks it looks much darker than it is probably because the lights are under plastic sheeting thats now coverd in paint its actually this colour.
-
finaly got all the primer sorted seemed to take forever to get it all ready for the paint. a few with the first coats then a fair few guns full later its now mostly sanded back down im waiting for some compound to start buffing it up il take more pics along the way while flatting and polishing.

iv never realy had a problem with the top coating,to get the finish i make the garage in to a booth i sheet it all out so its air tight and pefectly clean then i put a row of 4 box fans across the doors with filters then i open the doors as its all sealed with sheeting, and the fans keep it pretty clear just like a booth and my gun is very good for minimum overspray. all the paint is 2k and its always been fine air dry,the first time i did the quick blow over it came out very well for a rush job and lasted exept the rust from the previous repair before i owned it came back through otherwise i wouldnt have stripped the whole car i would have left it black, but as they are getting old you could pay for a top notch repray ,and it have rust waiting to come through. i have no intention of selling it so if i do it all myself i will know its all done right every part is keyed properly and exactly whats under the paint on the whole shell. must say i dont enjoy the prep work, although its not as bad as all the sanding and painting i did on the underside laid upside down for weeks because the garage isnt wide enough to roll it over. i dont like to use paintstripper at all in the garage as i cant get the car out to wash it down its not rolling,i have a bad vision of it causing reactions so i have never used it,i use a powerfile and so far 250, 80 grit discs :) it will take me a week to hoover all the garage out theres dust everywhere

thanks :) just on with the bonnet and filling the rear 1/4 after i pulled the dent as much as poss without cutting it out.
