I probably made my panel gaps too small, after all it was me fitted the wings when it came out of the body shop so I’ve only got myself to blame haven’t I!!!
-
I looked at doing this but due to the design of the hinges a shim moves the door forwards, narrowing the panel gap. To cure a drooping door caused by play in the bottom hinge I had to shim the top hinge which I did using some pretty thin shim steel, maybe 0.5mm, and ended up chipping the paint closing the door due to the reduced panel gap. At the moment I’m back to living with a drooping door and knowing that one day I’ll have to do the hinge pin!!!

Happy New Year to everyone here, let’s hope that some time in 2021 we get to start living something like the normal live we we all accustomed to before March! Don’t hold much hope for the traditional springtime shows but fingers crossed for some of the summers outings 🤞

Don’t know about the HEL set but my Goodridge set was delivered with two pairs of banjo bolts to cater for this. Does this also explain the difference we’ve seen in clearance between calliper and rim? One of the calliper variants having a larger body than the other, I’ll have to bolt a few bits back on the car to check but the clearance on mine is <3mm as there’s no way a balance weight will pass!

I took it to the VW specialist first, they scratched their heads for a day and phoned me to come collect it still in pieces! I believe it was M12 threaded bar I used, I cleaned the beam out with the flap wheel first and put plenty of grease in there but no breakages.

This was my method, tooling was supplied by Messrs Heath & Robinson! Getting the first side done took a couple of hours as I was trying every piece of packing for size to pull it in straight. Second one took a few minutes.

Welcome back to the Corrado, any info about the new car? Things are a fair bit quieter around here these days, but then there aren’t so many cars left, it’s still a great source of information and there are always some interesting projects going on. I too remain a member of CCGB although since the demise of the forum over there and my refusal to join Facebook it doesn’t really mean very much. I suppose it’s just habit seeing that I joined in January 96!

They look great, getting mine refurbished is a job on this winter’s list. You might just have to move the balance weights inboard a bit, clearance between the top of the calliper and the wheel will be fairly minimal!

Sorry, not sure what happened there, was thinking pre and typed post... it’s definitely PRE-cat, just after the flange. It is however p/n 021 906 265 AK. I paid £138.47 for one from TPS in 2014, I think next time I might risk one for around thirty five quid from autodoc, it’s pretty easy to swap and I’d have change left for almost three more!

Can’t help but notice the gin and coolant cocktail there…interesting 👍

Only one lambda probe on mine, post cat. It’s not the same at the original OBD1 probe though, bought it new from VW at the time, sure I can locate the paperwork for a p/n if you need it?

As you say, all the brake lines are all 3/16" or 4.75mm, also it is correct that you have two lines to the rear. All the fittings are M10 x 1.0 except for the two M12 fittings on the pump for the left side of the car. See the photo for which port is for which line, the ports on my pump are not marked so I needed this photo to check my piping.

Still hanging around here, wouldn’t know where else to go after 14 years.

That looks colourful, love it! You’re right about the space between calliper and wheel rim, from experience you’ll have to keep an eye on tyre fitters when they fit balance weight or you’ll be wondering why the wheels jam up!

Thanks for getting the wiki restored, it’s like having an old friend back, great work there!

I had a full paint job about five years ago, it wasn’t in bad shape except for a couple of the usual culprits, bottom of the driver’s wing, around the number plate light and some damage where it had been jacked at the front. It’s a decent paint job but not too extreme that I’m scared to drive it, my mate’s just had his Mk4 R32 painted and it’s absolutely stunning…but I wouldn’t even dare wax it!

Scaff stand, now we’re talking, love it!!!

Carefully is the word! I took a few years out of engineering years ago and worked for a rally team on Mitsubishi Evos, I got used to making it easy to get in there! I made myself some wooden ramps that get the front off the ground to start with, then side to side, jacking a couple of inches more at a time, keep going up a bit on each stand. Once there are two stands under the front the back goes straight up jacking from one side. I normally push it up some more yet, another hole on the stands at least, it’s easy from here as I can get the jack in the centre under the crossmember! I keep looking at my garage and wondering if I’d get planning permission to replace the flat roof with a pitched one…I could put a lift in there then. There’s a guy a few miles from me has one, that’s the proper way to do it.
