  1. Well just dropping in a Kent (266 I think) to spice it up a bit. On a car as old and knackered as this Golf it's just for a bit of fun more then anything else. All sounds substantially easier then my shoot myself in the face chore of doing my schimmels. Don't want to repeat that anytime again soon. Thanks for the advice, time to get the old disposable gloves on then me thinks.
  2. How hard is a camshaft upgrade on an 8v GTI Golf? I know it's a random place to ask but I've never been let down by this forum before and I know a lot of users have a good knowledge of everything VW Anyways, is it a case of removing the rocker cover, removing the rocker arms, undo the bolt that holds the cam sprocket on, leave the sprocket in situ, pop the new cam in using the key cut out, put it back together. No timing needed etc (leave tappets as the car's only worth 400 quid) Not my car but I'd be doing it, did my VR cams myself and it wasn't the most enjoyable thing I've ever done, can only be bothered to do this if it's a quick and easy afternoon jobby.
  3. Sidemounts!!!! I forgot all about those :) That might very well be the answer to my problems, wanted to keep them on a slider but needs must I suppose Thanks for the reminder
  4. I've used the search but does anybody have any experience of using mk2 subframes with Cobra buckets in a Rado? I know they will be higher but how high? To get some idea I swopped my drivers seat for a mates mk2 one but it was insanely high, I'm a fairly short dude but my head was nearly touching the roof! I wear a helmet on occassions for various track stuff and that takes even more headroom from me. Don't want to feel like I'm sitting in a kids booster Any feedback would be hugely appreciated.
  5. Mine never gets higher then 85-90 normally but that one lap of the ring I took you on saw it hit 122, thats with a 16row mocal, good quality oil change, open grill, Samco hoses, plastic rocker cover, breather filter and TB coolant bypass. I know mines a VR but that takes the biscuit, take yours out for a proper session then add 20% and thats probably about as hot as it will get
  6. I was thinking that, always wondered exactly what the stealthy "94 VR6 turbo" signature actually amounted to, very impressive looking stuff Get a thread going in the members gallery asap to end the intrigue :)
  7. LLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTSSSSS GET READY TO RUMBLLLLLLLEEEEE!!!!!!
  8. Come to think of it though I never managed to spin my valver on a roundabout with lift off oversteer...nose heavy for the VR is an understatement! Also used to find it substantially easier to get power down in the 16v too, front tyres are lasting me less then 6 months in the VR at the moment :brickwall:
  9. It is anything but "a 16v just a little faster", the whole experience of owning a VR is on a whole other level to that of a valver and I say that from experience of owning both. My 16v was extremely tidy and a lot of fun, I have a soft spot for them and there ability to be ragged to within an inch of there lives, and brush it off without a care in the world, but it just doesn't compare to the assault on your senses that a VR all too often brings. If you want a car that is substantially quicker, sounds unbelievable, gains instant respect from most petrolheads, looks newer inside and out, and has on many occassions been reviewed as a future classic then you know what to do :thumbleft:
  10. Countless hours lost driving my replica of my own Corrado around the Nurburgring, if they lose the C I'll be less then impressed
  11. Had one at full tilt overtake me on the 'Ring a couple of months back, my pants nearly catipulted out of the sunroof Sounded super cool!!
  12. Looking forward to this already, should be a good day out Thanks for getting behind it Phil :thumbleft:
  13. Is anyone who knows Charlie at SRR able to get a definate on this before we plan anything? I've never met the chap so I'm not much use, also we should get a date before we announce it to anyone that may' of missed this thread. First saturday in July, gives us a month and gets inters out of the way too, what do people think?
  14. That looks to be an easy 6 people already, Lets definately make this happen, anyone else interested?
  15. Not a hater mate just being honest, RR's have no reason to over read as even if they do offer tuning all it would do is make the base line figure higher and therefore you even less likely to feel compelled to modify it. Plus nobody really needs a reputation for having a dodgy RR. Out of 7 RR's test SRR read the lowest is all I was saying, fact, and as I said about averages it doesn't bode particularly well. Saying that I would be interested in a group thing out of interest, definately count me in.
  16. Your dead right about sticking to the same RR for accurate results but when SRR give the lowest in a UK test then the law of averages suggest that they can't be that accurate. No doubt they really know what they're doing but I'd prefer to go somehwere in the middle of the spectrum, with your 13bhp difference I'm guessing SRR was the lowest as that's about what they differed in the review that I read, and that was only on a Ford Ka I think from memory.
  17. Come on you lot, I can't be the only one on the Forum that sits outside primary schools in the VR, selling crack to kids.. In all seriousness though did anybody actually read it, Drug dealers, chains snapping at 90k, German imports as it was such a massive hit, people literally falling over themselves to spend Nearly £30,000 in the mid-nineties on a VW Coupe. Has honest john actuallty ever heard of a Corrado before, what a :censored:
  18. Need to get the 'Ring trip out the way first, then a short rest for the old girl until another day slaving away at Santa Pod for the next VW festival. I'll come with you though, makes your hairs stand on end standing next to your car on full chat, pretty cool :afro:
  19. It's in Southampton, Used to be (and still kinda is) a Vauxhall specialist but they seem to own and love VW's now  That's what it's all about, take money from Clueless Vauxhall owners, and throw it at tuning mental 350bhp Golfs...sweet
  20. Took mine to Regal, was tempted to try and steal their mk5 off the drive but think they may of noticed... Got dyno'd at 200bhp with a chip, BMC, and decat so that's probably about right, maybe even a little low but definately not inflated to make me feel better. Need to get it done again now as it's been a year and quite alot has changed :)
  21. In performance car magazine they took the same car to 7 reputable dyno's around the UK and Surrey Rolling Road quoted it the lowest by a fair distance. Appreciated that the owner may be a nice bloke and not inflating figures but that wouldn't exactly fill me with confidence.
  22. Do it do it do it!!! Forget the weight factor and the fact that an unmolested one is hard to come by...an Elise with a 2.9 V6 would be sick!
  23. Mental :cuckoo: At that point I would've changed my pants, flown home, signed on, and spent the rest of my days watching car boot and auction based TV! Random note though..it looks suspiciously like a Transformers horn button on his wheel
  24. Ha, that was a while ago now. Ended up buying a VR and throwing a couple of grand at it...wanna race :) In all seriousness though you should batter that Fiesta farely easyly, give yours a good service, decoke the engine, spot of injector cleaner etc. KR cam, decat, grippy front tyres (might be overkill, I'm used to the VR now) and take all the crap out your boot...job's a good'un and all for about £100-200 if you know you're way around a spanner
  25. As it's a good buyer thread thanks to you too Dave, Popped the bolts on the forum, sold within an hour, full amount paypalled shortly after, no messing about Cheers
